DONOTMAKETHEMISTAKE we did in thinking Pfeiffer State Park is the same as Julia Pfeiffer State Park– nope diff parks and they are about 30 min apart! Julia Pfeiffer State Park is the one you want to go to– it has the stunning waterfall view and the coastal hike on the Ewoldsen Trail through a redwood forest and with an amazing ocean view a top the mountain. Do this one! Also, park for free outside the park and walk in if you want to save the hassle of waiting to park and paying $ 10. I wouldn’t even stop at Pfeiffer State Park– its not worth seeing in my opinion with so many bigger parks close by and has zero coastal view. It is a nice mild trail for kids though and has a lodge with an ice cream shoppe in it– again great for kids. Where to stay if Big Sur is totally booked like it was when we went this past weekend: Carmel Lodge is about 45 mins north of Big Sur and affordable and clean– coffee and croissants to room each morning and is right in heart of downtown shopping and beach area Where to eat in Carmel: St. Tropez– amazing french and italian cuisine — burgers and souffles too! Where to have lunch in Big Sur: Big Sur River Inn where you can enjoy a beer in a chair seated right in the river after your meal while your feet cool off!
