Very friendly staff and clientele. Excellent beer selection. They have one or two non Cuervo and Patron tequilas(could use a few more — Heradura please). Had a burger and fries which was quite good. Burger was a bit passed medium but I’ve come to expect that from everyplace I order one. I like this place because it looks like a dive bar, but it isn’t. It’s clean and lived in. A fairly tired exterior, stand alone building with ample parking. The juke box is eclectic. I went to Binghamton for my son’s university orientation and thought I’d only have a choice of corporate places like Appleby’s or the like. I found this place on Unilocal and it works for me. Warning: The kitchen is closed on Sundays. My kid will be in town for 4 years. I’ll definitely be back.

i don’t go out drinking nearly as much as i used to, but when i do, this is usually where i end up, and it’s also where i know i’ll run into people i like. a few years back i would actually avoid going here because it was too crowded, but the crowds seem to have died down a little and it’s much more comfortable now. they have a great beer selection and a nice back patio, and plenty of parking, which is a huge plus. it’s definitely a dive bar, and that’s what i love about it, except for the bathroom, they need to put in a stall for those who need to go #2. as for the food here, that’s where this place shines. they claim to have the best burger east of the mississippi. the best? not in my opinion, i’ve had others equally as good, but it’s definitely a great burger that you shouldn’t miss out on, but if you order it, i would suggest getting a side other than the fries, the fries are one of the only not so great things about this place. they also have some of the best deals in town when it comes to their infamous weekly taco tuesday and wing wednesdays. while their tacos are nothing amazing, they do taste really good and they are better than what taco bell passes off as mexican food, and they are only 50 cents each! and on wednesdays you will get some pretty good wings at an amazing $ 4 per order, no one else does them that cheap anymore! unfortunately, you seem to have to be «in the know» to get certain foods here that they post pics of online. a lot of the stuff you see here is not listed on the actual menu. all in all, this is one of the better bars in the area with great beer and great deals on food. it has a very nice community feel to it and you’ll run into some interesting people here.

This is one of the very few bars in Binghamton worth going to. Skip State Street and come here for an amazing burger, cheap pitchers and 50 cent tacos on Tuesdays. It’s a local dive bar and you shouldn’t expect anything fancy but I’ve never come here and had anything short of a great experience.

Yes. Here. If you need a cool, fun, Irish pub in western NY… it’s here. Been here a couple times. Fun bartender. Cheap drinks. Usually have love music. And try the street hot dogs next door.

Divey and seriously incredibly cheap. They had 2 dollar ithaca but brown pints the day I went and 2 dollar sausage and peppers before 5pm on a Saturday. This was a perfect place to stop for a beer and a snack on my way out of town.

Dark, Dirty, Smells like Urine. And has since I was 19(wink) now in my mid 30’s. People who think this is a great bar are Blind, Deaf and can not smell. If you like urine on your shoes underage kids and like the excitement of maybe getting stabbed. Yes this is your place.

Mediocre food, not enough space, mediocre beer selection, minimal atmosphere, EXTREMELY good price. Where else can you get a $ 4.50 pitcher of Moosehead? Bartenders usually very friendly. Live music on the weekends(sometimes) and usually it’s good. Don’t expect to get a seat. The wings used to actually be 10 cents on 10 cent Tuesday, but I guess that deal couldn’t last forever. Oh well. You go here to get drunk anyways. Highlight would definitely be the dirt cheap prices, but that has more to do with its location in Binghamton than anything else.

This is the best bar in Binghamton, hands down. Cheap, cool, mixed crowd, no annoying girls drinking bottles of Bud Light and taking pictures of themselves. Burgers are awesome. This is basically the epitome of a neighborhood bar. Some nights it’s a SUNY bar, some nights a townie bar, some nights a gay bar, et cetera. If you don’t like The Belmar you’re a jerk.

This is the best bar in the area. AMBIANCE: Wild. Drunk. Engaging. Fun. Everyone is here to have fun and drink. This is the place where everyone knows your name. Irish Whisky(mostly Jameson) is a staple here. This is the place where nuclear physicists bump elbows with ex-cons. There are no minorities here because there are all minorities here. Very inclusive and friendly patrons. This is the«melting pot» America dreamed about. More laughter per hour than anywhere else. There’s no down time; you will not be the first drunk of the day. BEER: Always several craft beers among the 16 taps, for very good prices, and most importantly, they have Ommegang Abbey Ale by the PINT! Non-craft beers are the norm for most patrons here, however, and I understand they also sell for very competitive prices(think«Happy Hour» prices at all times). FOOD: They’ve been pushing their food recently, yet it is still the best secret in town. Very tasty and generous bar food. The«Belmar Burger» is legendary, and BBQ in the summer is delicious and legit. Taco Tuesdays. Wings on Wednesdays. Nicely inexpensive. MUSIC: Very nice jukebox selections which seems to be playing at least 50% of the time. Many local bands(several nights a week) are a staple. SITE: A beautifully run down dive which is secretly kept up just enough to make it eternal. The building is painted on the bottom with the colors of the Irish Flag, and on the upper floors with the colors of a bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey. This is not a coincidence. Also, they have an outdoor patio in the back with pick-nick tables, yard games, and also an additional venue for live music. There is always something going on here… Sunday NFL and Syracuse basketball on TV. Pig roasts. Trivia. Live music. Charity Benefits, etc. Never a dull moment.

For Binghamton, this is the most tolerable bar to frequent while visiting your family. The crowd is in their mid 20’s to late 30’s with an upstate hipster vibe. Drinks are cheap, and it’s open until all hours of the morning. It also sports a 3 to 1 male to female ratio.

Face it– You’re not in college anymore(or in high school with your elder sibling’s fake ID). «Downtown» is not the place for you. Picking up a chick down there would result in a warrant for your arrest for sex with a minor. Instead, the Belmar is the place to be. Get a pitcher of moosehead. Then get a second and third and split with friends you brought with you or those that you’re sure to meet there. A collection of hip youngsters and regular townies keeps the scene eclectic. The christmas lights are on year round with an average of only 50% of them working at any given time. And damn, get the wings on wing night!

This place is probably the best dive in Binghamton or the tri cities. Cheapest beer I have experienced and just a fun and different atmosphere on your way to down town.

This is a decent little dive bar with cheap beers, some character, friendly vibes, and a good jukebox. The signage is classic. The night before Thanksgiving I saw approximately half of my graduating class there(go patriots!). It was fun.

the definitive binghamton townie bar. lame because a bunch of friends and i were here once playing drinking games and the bartender told us we had to put the cards away once a few more people started showing up… i have no idea why…

If you like the Belmar, you will probably not like it downtown and vice versa. Unlike downtown, however, there is a definite dearth of other options for a similar venue. The result is an uncanny amount cross breeding. That being said, the music is not great but tolerable. The drinks prices don’t always make sense but are cheap and buybacks are possible with enough good karma. People say it is hipsters that go there, but I don’t think so. Just misguided youths. They don’t know what a hipster is. I don’t remember it like this when I was in school… Serious meat market. There is about a 2:1 guy to girl ratio and it seems most have gone home with most at one time or another. And if they haven’t(or even they have), by the end of the night it gets pretty desperate with guys hanging(or more accurately«begging») by the bar waiting for their chance of one last quip for one of the pretty bartenders. Surprisingly, I’ve seen it work.

The exterior of the Belmar reminds me of something out of the seventies. A baby blue three story skinny building(with apartments on top), it stands isolated with parking lots of both sides. It has fantastic signage and also has the Irish flag painted on the front of the building. For the non-regular-bar-going-type, I was not sure what to make of the place. It’s cool. It’s a local joint. My first visit was on a tuesday, «Wing Night» judging by the large amounts of Binghamton students scarfing down spicy delights. I’ve been told its not usually a college hangout and has a lot of character. I would believe it. Reminds me somewhat of The Drawing Room out in Los Angeles, except with a Upper New York state flair. I plan on many more visits and hope to learn more about the place. Besides, anyone who rates a bar based on one visit can’t really know anything at all. I guess that makes this entire review suspect, but heh, first impressions mean something too.
