There was a mix up with our reservation through Expedia. We arrived so late and so exhausted and cranky, only to find that Expedia had CANCELLED our reservation. Lisa at the front desk was so kind and patient with our tired souls after driving all day until almost 1am… she even gave us an upgrade because of the mix up. When we got to the room, there was an issue with the door and not even the master key would work. Lisa figured it out quickly and gave us another upgrade! The breakfast buffet was delicious and the service, again, was great. The room was clean and cozy. There is a lovely farmers market next door, open on Saturdays. The hotel itself is nice and with gorgeous common areas, in the middle of Amish country. But my favorite part was Lisa and her outstanding guest service. Lisa, night soldier of the free world, we salute you!

This was our fourth visit to the BIH Family Inn, and as we’ve become accustomed to, it was a very nice visit. Our group rate was $ 107 plus $ 12 tax. Service is always good here. We needed a screen and a few extra chairs for our meeting room, and they were there exactly on time. Our room wasn’t huge, but it and the bed were very comfortable. There was a small table that doubled as a desk, and there was a fridge in the room. The flat screen TV was a teense smaller than you see in many hotels, but it was fine. The wifi worked fine too. The bathroom was small, with the floor-space measuring somewhere near 4 X 5. With the door swing and the toilet, you needed to perform some fancy footwork to open and close the door without getting trapped in there. They have a musical theater on premises, and present live shows during the season. They have a ton of stuff for kids– a mini golf course and playground, so it’s a great family destination. We didn’t use the pool or hot tub, but those are nice features for the family too. Its right next to the BIH Farmers Market, across the street from the cool BIH Bakery, and there is a big restaurant on premises. You can’t go wrong staying here.

Located near the outlet shopping in Pennsylvania, this Inn is very conveniently located near the events and places you want to see. It’s a good place for a family. Two indoor pools, one outdoor pool, a kids play area, and it’s good for all seasons. The rooms appear to be renovated regularly and are pretty spotless. Bathrooms are small, but towels are plentiful, fluffy and white. Beds were too hard for me. Front desk was very helpful and moved me from the motel-like rooms to be closer to my larger group staying in the hotel building. At the time I was staying, a complementary tour of the area was included. There’s a nice lobby for hanging out with your family that has a large screen television. Game room for the teens. Fitness center with 3 running machines; no weights or other machines. Laundry room that is clean and includes a table so you can stay with your laundry. There is a restaurant close by that includes a breakfast buffet. Not sure if the buffet is included with everyone’s room, but it was with mine. Coffee is good and hot. Try to sit at the counter to enjoy the conversation of the locals.

This is our second stay here and it is very kid friendly. There are two indoor pools and 1 outdoor pool. They sign out towels at the pool so you don’t have to bring your own which is great. They have a big awesome playground for the kids and even a putt putt golf and ice cream shop on the property(extra charge). There’s a small game room and a small gym(neither of which I used). The hotel is always clean and well kept and the grounds are beautiful. It’s a bit off the main drag so it’s peaceful and quiet and feels very much like Lancaster should. If you have kids and are staying in Lancaster I highly recommend it. I am not as happy with their Smörgåsbord this time around though. It’s not as fancy as some of them but they have a kids buffet filled with things kids like to eat but again it wasn’t as good as the last time we went. Food is fresh, convenient and decent.

My family just returned from a weekend getaway to Bird In Hand Family Inn, and we were thoroughly pleased with our stay. After the unfortunate demise of Willow Valley, we were looking for a new property to continue our family tradition of visiting the Lancaster area with our son, and I think we may have a winner. We used the hotel as a central location for visits to both Strasburg Rail Road to see Thomas the Train as well as a visit to the Dutch Wonderland; both were less than 10 minutes away. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of the Bird In Hand Farmer’s Market and the Bird In Hand Bakery and Creamery, all of which were worthwhile visits. The hotel itself is very neat and clean, and while certainly not«contemporary» or state of the art, they were more than enough to keep a family occupied. We had a room with a king size bed and full size pull out couch in the new building, which was extremely spacious. There seemed to be about a dozen or so WiFi hotspots throughout the property, and getting a signal on my phone or laptop was never a problem. The room also was equipped with a DVD player, which was a surprisingly nice amenity to help entertain a toddler who was missing his Disney Jr. in the evenings. There are three pools on site as well as a large hot tub/spa. The two indoor pools were both in the high 80s, clean & spacious. The outdoor pool was a bit chilly when we were there, but it was also large and well maintained, and it was zero-entry, which was great for the little ones. There were plenty of towels and seating available at all times. The property is expansive and beautifully landscaped. There is a large pond brimming with fish and ducks, a large playground with climbing equipment, slides, and swings, two lighted tennis courts, a basketball court, and a miniature golf course(extra fee). There was also a spot on site to rent scooters and a tiny petting zoo. The United States Hot Air Balloon Team is headquartered immediately next door, which created some beautiful views at dawn and dusk when they are taking customers out for rides. Finally, the Bird In Hand Family Restaurant is also on property. We got the dining plan with our room, which included two breakfasts and one dinner for each guest. All of the meals here were filling and satisfying(more details in a separate review). In conclusion, the Bird In Hand Family Inn is a very clean, well run property that has a very family feel. The staff are all courteous, professional, and clearly take pride in their jobs. There is plenty to do on property to keep families occupied, and it is a very close and easy drive to all the major attractions in Lancaster and Intercourse. It is an excellent value for the money, and my family plans to return in the future.

My family and I stayed here and it wasn’t very enjoyable. When i made reservations they had vacancies in the front building which are the motel style rooms which have a short walk to the pool. The first thing I noticed after checking in was that the room had a moldy/musky smell which also resembled old wet carpets(It was so bad my wife wanted to leave). I immediately grabbed the febreeze from the car and turned on the A/C and we stepped out. I figured this would do the trick and we returned a couple of hours later to find that the smell had not dissipated so I immediately called guest services and explained the situation they said they were sending a humidifier. They sent the unit over and this didn’t do the trick. The room had an AC unit which didn’t even feel like it was on even though i set it to highest setting. If staying in these rooms beware because beds are full-size. When we were in the room it was horribly hot and sticky. The refrigerator was also rusted. The TVs are the big box types. Also many of the guests smoke outside their rooms adding to the terrible smell. The bathroom was the best thing in the room. The rooms were horrible and in need of UPDATING and the heat TOTALLY unbearable it made it impossible to breathe. The food in the restaurant was ok and the grounds were very well kept. The kids will enjoy the petting zoo, the pools and the playground. I would not recommend anyone staying here until these issues are addressed. I was a big fan of willow valley when they were open but they sold their property it remains as double tree which is where I will stay in the future.

My wife and I stayed there July 21 – 23 and the hotel was clean and the pools(2 indoor &1 outdoor) were excellent. Plus they have a huge jacuzzi. The restaurant was excellent, food was fresh and plentiful. We ate at the restaurant 3 times for breakfast lunch and dinner and all meals were 5 star. We will go back next year with more family members. Very relaxing! And a wonderful time.

Where to begin. Everything served is FRESH and ORGANIC. No perservaties. You can taste the difference and it’s a good thing. I don’t normally like eggs, but these were amazing. Fresh squeezed orange juice. A litte on the pricey side because everything is organic but so worth it. The place should be opened later then it stays open till. Deffiently a place you need to eat at. The hotel rooms were okay. Beds weren’t that comfy, and bathroom was small.
