We reluctantly stopped here on our way back into town. I say reluctantly, because we could decide whether it was part of a chain or not. As it turns out, they simply moved into the building of an old fast food place. The BBQ was really good. My friend had the ribs and they were nice and tender. I had the BBQ Baked Potato, and I can honest say it was one of the best I’ve ever had. The onion rings were made on site, versus being pulled from a bag and thrown in the fryer. I would definitely recommend this place.

My family and I stopped here for dinner while heading back from Memphis. The people here at Deerman’s Hickory Pit BBQ seemed to be quite friendly and the bathrooms within the restaurant were clean, which is something guests should always check. A dirty bathroom typically means an unsanitary kitchen. I had the pork platter which comes with pulled pork and two sides, plus beans. For the two sides I had the green beans and macaroni and cheese. Both of the sides were very good. The BBQ sauce here is moderately good, I had better and had not so good, though I liked that it was not too sweet. The pork here is cooked slightly more on the overdone side. It needs to be cooked of course, but maybe not so long as pork will tend to become a bit dry. I like that they do everything here, the BBQ is smoked here with fresh wood that I noticed on the side of the building and the place seems to be quite popular with the locals. It seems that the Birmingham Police like this place, as there were a few squad cars and officers eating here. On average you will spend about $ 10 – 12 per person here, the kid meals are about $ 5 and include a drink and bag of animal cookies. The people here were kind enough to give us an extra one as well, which was very nice. I’d give this place 4 stars on the customer service and food. I would eat here again for sure, but I recommend eating here instead of take out. [Review #344](104th Review of 2015)

Excellent BBQ and hot wings. Stopped in here on way home from Destin. The family style meal was perfect for our very hungry family. Will definitely come back again if ever in the area.

Drive through service takes forever if there’s even a few cars in the line. The food is at or below average on the chopped brisket sandwich, cheeseburger, fried okra, fries, and peanut butter cake we got. The kids chicken fingers were better than most. The sweet tea is saweet even if you ask them to half cut it, and they forgot the condiments we asked for, but friendly enough and did remember the«no ice» request — rare for a drive through. Doubt I’d go back, but in a pinch would try the pulled pork and greens before counting them out for good.
