Their cakes are good for the price but customer service is lacking. The past few times I’ve been in they seem annoyed by me placing an order or asking questions. As a result I’ve started using dreamcakes — their cakes are much better(though a little more expensive) and the staff is always helpful and friendly.

Love stopping in whenever I’m in town. Clientele is such a stereotype of the South: children in monogrammed shirts in the requisite Crimson/white or orange/blue and the girls with giant oversized bows on their heads. I try not to let the mothers ignoring their children in favor of their phones detract my attention from the gorgeous baked goods and sumptuous bakery display case. Rolls for Thanksgiving dinner, brunch for hubby and me(American breakfast for him and a breakfast wrap for me), cupcakes as a guilt offering for not taking the kiddos with us, and finally, blessedly, a petit four for this mama for dessert! Oh, you didn’t know that dessert after breakfast was a thing? At Edgar’s it is!

I had the bacon and cheese omelette with red skin potatoes and a cheddar biscuit. The taste is very good, however, I was disappointed to find out they no longer have biscuits and gravy.

Everything always looks better than it tastes. It’s not bad, it’s just that if is not mouth watering. Staff is friendly but after lunch the place is a mess. They need more staff to keep the tables clean. We couldn’t find an empty table that didn’t have dishes or food left on it.

Met a client for breakfast. This place is a local chain with lots of Auburn and Bama stuff. Had a great breakfast consisting of Southwestern Omelet, Potatoes, Rye Toast and Bacon. All was fresh and came out quick and hot. Atmosphere is casual. They are also a premier bakery with lots of fresh baked goodies. I will return when in Birmingham

I love that this location is great for meeting friends or business associates. I always see people having morning meetings in here and, when I have the chance, I schedule morning meetings here too. Great little outdoor seating area for those rare mild weather days in Birmingham. Now for what you really want to know about… the food! I really like some of the hot breakfast items, especially the bread pudding pancakes and cheese grits. My favorite thing at Edgar’s is the the strawberry cake. It is indeed one of the best cakes I have ever had. You can get a whole cake and they have individual slices for sale too. They have many other pastry items and my mother loves the chocolate cake. Many people love love love their coffee but I dont particularly like it. If I am getting something for a special occasion I let them do their signature cakes(strawberry, caramel, or red velvet) and maybe get something written on it. I have never thought of them as a specialty bakery but a bakery that has some signature items. The signature items rule!

Love this bakery! We recently used them for our wedding and can’t say enough. Thanks so much for the delicious treats for our guests.

Don’t order the fried green tomato BLT! The entire sandwich had one piece of bacon split in half and the 2 fried green tomatoes were tiny. Complete waste of money!

This place was pretty awesome. They have sweets galore. I had the strawberry cake which was amazing. The Marilyn Monroe sandwich was pretty easy and it comes with there kettle chips that seems to have salted Parmesan on them mmmm mmm is all I can say. If you’re ever in the area I would say give this place a try. It seems to be a stop for salad, soup, sandwiches and a sweet tooth. You will not be disappointed. As you walk in you see the sweets in the case and there are baking right in front of you. You place your order receive a number then they bring your food to the table and let you have at it.

Imagine a Panera with a sense of southern bohemian vintage to its merchandising/atmosphere. We just got breakfast — Monte Christos on Challah — fantastic!

Decided I wanted dessert after left restaurant in area. Stopped by here just before closing. Lemon bar was great and more reasonably priced than cupcakes(pricing is consistent with most gourmet cupcake shops) and just as filling. Did not realize they had individually priced small cookies(Italian wedding cookies) before the visit. Worth it if you just want a little something. Strawberry cake is the best I’ve had(my daughter is expecting it for her birthday cake). Especially when it is chilled before serving. Strawberry cupcake is disappointing in comparison. It must be the layers in the cake as the cupcake is the same batter and icing.

I love Edgar’s so much!!! The strawberry cake is my absolute favorite in the whole wide world. In fact, I’ve never had a cake, cupcake or other sweet from Edgar’s that I haven’t liked. They also have good breakfast. If I had to pick one sweet for the rest of my life, it would no doubt be strawberry cake from Edgar’s!

It’s strange that a bakery disappoints on the sweets but impresses on the breakfast. I’d actually recommend it for a breakfast – they correctly poached an egg, which is a basic standard for whether or not the cook is any good. The two breakfast items were good, including some good bacon. The sweets, however, were disappointing, too sweet. The person taking our order was confused and not the best, but the person bringing us food was nice.

«Let Them Eat Cake!»…Edgar’s Strawberry cake would be my preference! I went into the store today to pick up treats for my coworkers. The very nice gentlemen behind the counter was so patient with me. He had an awesome personality and mentioned he was a trainer of some sort. I was quite indecisive because they were out of Lemon Bars! I asked«Aren’t you famous for your Lemon Bars… how can you be out of them? He smiled and said, «actually, our Strawberry cake is one of our most popular items». Hmmm, Strawberry cake you say… I told him that I was visiting from Atlanta and mentioned that«Piece of Cake» has the BEST Strawberry cake. He challenged me and said that a piece of Edgar’s cake would change my mind… Challenge accepted! Well I brought a slice of Edgar’s Strawberry cake and let me tell you… it is DE-LICIOUS! Dare I say, even better than«Piece of Cake». Edgar’s isn’t just for Lemon Bars… anymore :)

I was not aware that Edgar’s served breakfast, but upon glancing at the menu, it seemed like something that would be tasty to try. Truthfully, my love for Edgar’s has always been centered on their amazing desserts(especially their strawberry cake), but I decided to try some pancakes and bacon. I ordered the bread pudding pancakes. Sounds kinda amazing, but the taste is just ok. It’s not bad, but a little bit of a let down. The service was good; the gentleman who brought our food to the table was nice. They were very nice to my son and gave him courtesy cookies. I did get slices of cake to go(strawberry…plus some others). That cake is great.

Dessert only review: Felt like I was a little kid in a candy shop as there were so many desserts on display to choose from. Their cakes are $ 3.75/slice which is a bit steep but it appears popular with many patrons. I tried a bite of the strawberry and definitely think it’s worth trying. While I want to ding them for the Oreo Cupcake(see below), they described it but it was my expectation and interpretation that misled me. Red Velvet Cupcake was good. Moist and soft inside that it almost crumbled in my hand. Enjoyable dessert to accompany a filling lunch. Oreo Cupcake was average. They placed an Oreo cookie with some chocolate icing on top a chocolate cupcake. I thought the cupcake would be something more than an average chocolate cupcake.

This is place is just plain adorable. The dessert case is always, always full of «ooohs» and«aaahs.». While I am not anywhere near 280 on the mornings, I will venture this direction midday on occasion. All the sandwiches I’ve had have been delicious, and sometimes inspiring; I make my own apple butter, and probably would not have thought to put it on a turkey sandwich until I ate it here. Now the Cranapple Jack is my favorite deli option. It is also fun, while waiting in line, to watch the pastry chefs at their craft — flouring, kneading, and decorating all the goodies that the bakery is famous for. It would be bad for my budget, not to mention my waistline, to eat here on a regular basis. But everyone deserves a little treat every now and then, and Edgar’s is definitely a spot to go to treat yourself.

Eggs Benedict are okay, grits are terrible that came with them. Coffee is standard coffee, nothing special. Also if your going to offer WiFi to your customers how about decent internet? Someone came through and cleaned up the tables but made more noise then a freight train. I usually prefer my breakfast spots to be quieter then this. Next time I’ll find a Starbucks instead of here.

In town on business. This place is right across from my hotel and Unilocal reviews were relatively good, so gave it a shot. I had a spinach and feta croissant which was good not great. It was more bread than spinach and feta, not that I’m complaining. The variety of bakery items from biscuits, croissants, pastries and cupcakes is amazing. I will try this place again on this trip. It’s a great place to have a little breakfast before a busy day. Great atmosphere and the smells of fresh baked pastries is wonderful.

Because it’s located so conveniently close to my apartment and my spot for dry cleaning, I always make a trip here whenever I possibly can. The décor is lovely like a bakery version of Cracker Barrel. The fragrance of pastries is always delightful to walk into. It’s open, spacious, and loud but in a calm way that only bakeries can do with the sound of stirring ingredients and the grinding of the coffee machines. They had plenty of samples above their pastries for you try so I obviously had to go back for more. The pastry and condiment selections are endless and I enjoy wandering through this bakery as much as I can. The major setback I have found on my visits is actually finding something I like enough to bring home. Some of my favorite items though include the wedding cookie that resembles a sugar doughnut hole but a thicker texture. The lemon cheesecake was good as well.
