I am so happy I came here for brunch. Warning though, when you come hungry it’s very hard to make a decision on what to eat– it all looks delicious! I decided to take home a cookie and also a sausage and cheese scone(so yummy– dense but not dry and great flavor– I had a hard time not eating the whole thing while I waited for my meal!) For main course I had Eggs Benedict with their house smoked salmon. The salmon was plentiful and had a good smoky flavor. Interestingly it was came with just one egg, but at least it was cooked correctly, so a runny yolk. Served with an asparagus/potato salad which was tangy and a nice change from a typical grits, fruits or plain potato side. Btw– English muffins are house made and fantastic! Had a cappuccino and mimosa to wash it all down. Loved the décor– simple, exposed brick, etc.

Loved the food at Feast & Forest. Good coffee too! The setup is that of a typical trendy coffeeshop. Not the best place for a large group, but we still managed to fit 9 on one of the big tables. Between all of us, we ordered the avocado toast, eggs Benedict, classic waffles, and grits & eggs. Everyone was very happy with their food. My eggs Benedict came with a healthy portion of salmon. The veggies that came with it were cold but satisfying(the green tomatoes were bombbbb). Coffee and lattes were also good. Service was very friendly. If I lived 1000 miles closer, I’d definitely come back!

This is such a cool little place. I went on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. It’s a coffee shop with kind of a hipster feel to it. The décor is neat, and there’s a really cool spiral staircase that leads you to some loft type seating. It’s not the best place for large groups, but it wasn’t too packed out so you could probably make it work. The music is loud, but it adds to the unique atmosphere. You place your order up front when you walk in. I had the eggs Benedict with the marinated new potato and asparagus salad. It was really good. I didn’t think I’d like the salad for brunch, but surprisingly, it went perfectly with the eggs Benedict. My friend got the waffles, and they were delicious. They had toasted pecans, fresh strawberries, macadamia nuts, hot sauce butter, and honey with maple syrup. I will definitely be going back and getting those soon. In addition to the amazing food, they offer bottomless coffee for all of you coffee lovers :)

Nothing against the restaurant as a whole… It has a cool downtown renaissance feel, with a relaxed ambiance. The problem with most restaurants popping up now and in the past is the lack of seasoning. Feast & Forest is no different. The palettes of the South are vastly different, and I understand the idea of making food palatable for any customer, but what makes a restaurant stand out long term, is great food and good service. If Feast & Forest would make great food instead of palatable food, it would have five stars from me. I am not the average restaurant patron, and I don’t have an average palette. I’ve eaten anything and everything put in front of me both in America and overseas. That being said, don’t let my review stop you from trying this place.

Thanks to Unilocal,I found this neat little gem. Think of a hole in the wall French bistro filled with young natural women making your food from scratch. You order up front and receive a chilled glass for water. The glass is small just like in Europe. The music is loud, but definitely adds to the décor with its calming light beat and soft female vocal. They have candles lit above the pastries. Look a neat looking old blue bike by the door. I am having visions of the owner closing shop and riding home on it with her hair blowing freely in the wind. You get to walk past the kitchen(and witness the food being crafted) on the way to the restrooms. But wait where is the water. Napkins, water and condiments are self serve. The food was served by a very handsome looking man. No wonder the place is filled with women. The food was different, but very tasty. It was good portions. The coffee was very good. Overall, I will come back. Friday morning was a peaceful breakfast journey filled with good food and calm. This is a unique place in Birmingham, so this gets a five star rating from me. Be warned, the food choices are few. They are really good though!

We stopped in Birmingham and ate here for lunch and LOVED it. I could rave about it for days. My dish was sweet potatoes with pulled pork and bok choy. My boyfriend got the pasta with kale and Parmesan cheese. Absolutely divine. We also got a salted dark chocolate chip cookie and it was probably the best cookie I’ve ever had.

I love this place. The only thing keeping it from getting five stars is the breakfast menu needs something more traditional and substantial than the breakfast bowl. Parking is street parking downtown anywhere near second street. The menu for lunch changes over at 10:30 so if you’re after breakfast keep the changeover in mind. The loft seating inside is amazing. The spiral staircase is even more of a treat but is a tough navigation with coffee in your hands if you don’t have the best balance. The ambience is very industrial chic. The staff is wonderfully nice, much like all of B’Ham.

Great little hipster bakery and lunch spot downtown. Seating can be hard to come by at times but this place usually has a quick turnover so you won’t have to wait long. The entire place has an industrial rustic feel to it. Even the baked goods and desserts are beautifully created with a little bit of edge. My biggest issue with many baked goods is that I don’t enjoy being overwhelmed with sweetness. Feast and Forest finds a nice balance so everything tastes like they baked it with the worry of overpowering sweetness in mind. Their dark chocolate and sea salt cookies are amazing and slightly chewy and the scones are crumbly and moist. I’ve had many Saturday Brunches here and they also have a seasonally changing menu. One standard(that deviates slightly depending on available ingredients) is the breakfast bowl. Grits served with ham or bacon, tomato sauce, and a fried egg with green onions. It’s a wonderful balance of texture and flavor(and a profile you don’t see everywhere). Their seasonal salads are a real hidden gem and must try(Definitely a place I will go to just for the salad). And any time they make a tart or use a variation of their lemon hollandaise is always a delicious treat. The only downside is that their prices are just a couple dollars over what they probably should be. BUT that clearly hasn’t stopped me from coming back so maybe I’m wrong hahaha. The ingredients in their dishes never taste overworked which gives it the illusion of simplicity but the combinations of flavors work together in complex ways making this a satisfying meal every time. And bonus! Almost every menu has a ‘make your own option’ — whether it be topped toast, waffles, or whatever!

This place is wonderful. Nice place to have lunch if you’re in the area. Cute little atmosphere. There’s dining indoors, upstairs, and outside. Their lunch selection isn’t huge but the options they do have are fresh and delicious. Another reason why I gave this place 5 stars is because it uses local ingredients! But if you aren’t too hungry there’s also pastries and coffee… which are amazing!

Food is great. This is a great start for the quaint new place. Needs to refine some dishes and expand the menu just a little before I add that last star. Seriously a good lunch spot. Handmade pasta is a huge plus, so make sure to get there on Pasta Friday. The texture of the fresh pasta is a fantastic difference from dried pasta from the store. Side note: really cool space they have there.

Had lunch there yesterday and will definitely be back. Airy, casual atmosphere with exposed brick, and beautiful tables made from split trees, including a community table. Personally, I’m not big on having to go up a spiral staircase to get to seating, but luckily was able to eat on the ground level. I had the hummus and it is now my favorite in town — and I’m picky about my hummus! Served in a wide bowl and topped with roasted chickpeas, broccoli, and brussel sprouts this was a unique way to serve and didn’t need any bread or crudités to dip. I just ate it with a fork. My only slight complaint is that I think the counter person — who takes your order and payment, gets your drink, and gives you a number for your table — didn’t seem to have been trained in customer service. She was fine in terms of the technical aspects of her job, but she was not very friendly or welcoming. In fact, she was barely at the counter the entire time we were there. When I walked in, I had to wait at least a minute or two before she came from the back to take my order and she didn’t give any greeting or even smile. Just walked behind the counter and waited for me to order.

First off let me say that the food is good, the 3 star review is regarding how the staff handles difficult situations. We went on a Saturday morning around 9:30 and it was very crowded. There was far more people then available tables. Normally in a place like this the policy is to not sit until you’ve ordered so we asked the lady at the register if we could ask someone who hadn’t ordered yet(indicated by a table number) to give up their table– she said yes that it was their policy to do so. We had to ask someone to give up their table even though their party wasn’t far in line behind us. When that customer then complained about the situation while ordering the lady at the register told her the exact opposite of what she just told us and apologized! The women then proceeded to come to our table and yell at us and called us bullies. Feast & Forest needs to decide on a policy about ordering before sitting and then stick to it. It would also help to have it posted somewhere in the restaurant so that everyone can see.

Feast & Forest is a chic, hipster downtown eatery! It has an amazing spiral staircase in the corner that takes you up to a second floor balcony where the there are a few two-chair tables! The restaurant is quite beautiful! Very bright, and well decorated! We went for brunch and were all satisfied with our dishes. Between us we tried the classic and savory waffles and the farm egg Caesar. Only disappointment? I wish for the vegetarian options there was something to replace the meat rather than just taking it off. When I took the bacon off the Farm Egg Caesar, it definitely needed something. I thought about the breakfast bowl vegetarianized(grits, smoked pork belly, tomato sauce, and poached farm egg), but I was worried it would then just be grits, tomato sauce, and egg! All in all, it’s a very chic and charming brunch spot!

This place is great! Superb baked goods and the biscuit was to die for! Will definitely be planning on coming back. There’s not an expresso machine, but the house coffee is from Octane and very good.

Cozy yet trendy bakery in upcoming downtown area Ambience/Service: This place fits perfectly downtown. Exposed brick gives an old southern feel but a new display case and community tables makes it trendy. There’s a spiral staircase up to a loft area that can be used for private events or general seating. The owners/staff are all super nice. Food(I’m vegetarian): Came for Saturday brunch. At first I was a bit disappointed as there were not many vegetarian options — the breakfast bowl, «sammich», and quiche all have meat in them. But after asking, they mentioned they had made a parmesan cheese quiche, which was really good. Without doubt the crust was the star with a very eggy and fluffy quiche. Hopefully they have more ingredients in their quiche in the future. You have a choice of sides — grits, kale salad, I think the 3rd was fruit. I ended up going with the salad which was ok. I think the kale made for a tougher salad. Otherwise, they had plenty of really beautiful pastries that I simply didn’t have room for. Had a cup of Octane coffee which was nice. Prices here are a touch high but still enjoyable. I’ll be back. I heard it was the 9th day since opening and I’m curious to see what they’ll come up with next.

This is the store front home of the Baking Bandits whose bakery treats have been a crowd favorite of Pepper Place Market. The space itself is perfect. Exposed brick and concrete floors with community and small tables hand made from beautiful pieces of trees. This makes for a comfortable inviting space that you just want to hang out at. Then there is the food. Yes they have their great baker treats including their play on pop tarts which are so much better than the ones out of the box. I saw a beautiful cinnamon brioche roll which i wanted to just bite into. I was happily surprised to find out they had hot breakfast specials which today were poached egg on cheese grits with pork and a tomato based sauce. It was perfectly delicious. Just wish there was a second egg. Wife had the other special, a delicious light quiche withe perfect crust and a wonderful salad. Top it all off with some Octane coffee and you have a perfect breakfast. Really glad these guys have made the next step and opened a storefront. A great addition to 2d Ave North and the Downtown culinary scene.

This place is wonderful! I will say I have been stalking them on IG and when I woke up this morning and saw they where having a soft opening I was out the door! First off I’ll say I love the space. It’s open and inviting and lots of tables to sit and chat over a yummy pastry. The service is great too. I LOVE the couple that is running the place. They are super friendly. Which is great since my BF and I are new to town we want to talk to everyone. Even though they got busy they still took time out to chat with us;) We had a savory scone with cheddar and sausage(which I fell in love with when they where at the farmers market) and a cup of Octane coffee. SOYUM. I will need to back when I have more carbs to waste. Everything looked DELISH!
