Good service, clean vehicle completely safe and operable. I was scolded a bit when I handed keys to attendant when she said you can leave the keys in the car. I pointed to a sign above our heads that says, please don’t leave keys in car. Without apology she said that the keys stay in the car. That said, she sensed I was a bit frustrated with the inconsistency and she promptly turned on the charm. She was very pleasant checking the car in and all was well.

I called and made a reservation for a car at the private airport in Gadsden Alabama, The girl explained that the car would be there waiting for me when I arrived at 11 AM. I tried to give her a CC number and she said no I would pay when I get there. Again i confirmed that this was a private airport and Hertz said they would have a car waiting for me when I returned. When I arrived at the airport I was told there was no car. I called the customer service line and they said I would have to get a ride to Birmingham to pick up the car of 30 minutes away and I was out in the middle of no where !!! I was on hold for hours and received NO help from Hertz. Does Hertz just not care? No one ever called me back with help or support.

Was asked by Hertz to switch out my Subaru Outback, on a multimonth rental, for maintenance. Reserved car at this location to ensure a comparable vehicle would be available. Drove 30 minutes from Hoover to make the switch. Was told they didn’t have a vehicle and to ‘come back later’. Staff did not offer to locate vehicle and contact me when so located.
Plus they don’t answer the phone, nor return messages.

Ive rented cars for business and pleaaure for years and hertz has been great until I tried birmingham airport rental location. I was given a banged up car that I would expect from a low grade rental company. What happened to this company?

Hertz has degenerated from one of the best to probably the worst in the business. As someone who rents several times a month I am nothing but disappointed time after time

They didn’t ask me if I want to upgrade and automatically charged me $ 10 per day?! The sad part? I didn’t catch it when I was reviewing it! And then I was charged 3 days instead of 2 because they said I returned it late, well, what can I say? They were unable to print receipt now I have no proof I returned it in grace period. Never happened to me before, really bad experience! I’m not looking forward to next time!

I rented a car the past weeked from Hertz in Birmingham AL. The car was clean and the overall experience on pickup was OK. Upon dropping the car off I filled the tank up with gas (only requiring 2 gallons) since the car had only been driven 59 miles total. To my surprise I am charged $ 150 gas charge at 9.99 per gallon as I was told I dropped it off empty. I will never rent with Hertz again and clearly there is fraudulently activity going on with this particular Hertz. If you rent from them double check your receipt before after and also your credit card bill. Beware

Personnel at the counter and upon return were extremely friendly and helpful. We did not have any wait before being helped. I will definitely use them again if I need a rental car.

I’ve rented cars from this location several times and each time they either don’t have a car for me, claim to not have my reservation or somehow screw up my reservation in another way.

I’ve rented twice from this Hertz, and both times I had the same problem — the person at the counter who checked me in added an «upgrade» without asking. Both times I arrived to return my car and was given an amount higher than my reservation. This most recent time my reservation (with taxes and fees) was $ 85. When I checked in I was told it would be $ 88. When I returned, I was told it would be $ 122. Of course I declined and wanted to speak to a manager. I was told that the counter manager — Nicole — was vacuuming cars and wouldn’t be back for 30 – 40 minutes. Of course I had a plane to catch… and so they told me that she would call me. It’s been 4 days, and I’ve not heard from her. At first they said that they over-​charge was because I picked up the car too early, but I showed them the times on my reservation documents (made via Southwest Airlines). Then they said that it was because I was asked if I wanted an upgrade and I accepted it. This is most definitely not true. Because this exact issue has happened twice, I have a hard time not believing that it’s their intentional business practices.

Made a reservation over 4^th of July weekend for Hertz at Birmingham airport. We arrived at the hertz counter on Thursday at 9:30 am. Two clerks were working a line about 6 people deep. We waited about 30 – 40 minutes while two clerks slowly worked through the folks before us in queue. They seemed to offer every upsell in the book, all the while mentioning this was their busiest weekend of the year, all the while the line tripled in length behind us. It didn’t seem like any effort to speed things along with such a line was made.
Finally our turn. The clerk was friendly, but still slowly went though the script of insurance upsells, gold membership enrollment (avoid this line next time we were promised), and vehicle upgrades at a much higher price than the reserved car. We declined all except the gold membership then finally got the keys.
Fast forward to vehicle turn in Monday at 1:30 pm– arrive at location in airport parking garage. Park at inspection point per signs– no hertz employees to be found. Sign says ‘take note of mileage, lock car, take keys to counter.’ We follow the instructions and head to the counter with our luggage, only to be led back to the car where another employee turned up, without speaking a word, checked the car in with a handheld device.
I really think this location needs to work on being sensitive to their customer’s time. We were in Birmingham for vacation, but it would have been more irritating to use them for business and possibly been made late to a meeting.

Manager kwanada Watkins general manager is excellent! We had a problem with our rental and she took care of it. She is very nice and understanding. I’m a gold star member and have been renting for 7 years all over the world. This rent started as one of the worst but customer service has turned it around as one of the best. Highly recommend this location!

Been sitting in Talledega for 5 hours, waiting for your hertz location to drop my car off at the airport. Car was supposed to be dropped off at 430 and now since it’s 9, they can’t help me because the location I’m at is closed. 1… It’s not closed. I’m here, 2 … What does that have to do with 430!!! Same nonsense last weeekend too. Car never showed up at the Fbo in Birmingham, ended up renting from another company. Worthless.

My first time trying Hertz and these low ratings had me worried, but I got nothing but the royal treatment at this location.
There were three employees who were very professional (but pushing me to upgrade), no wait which allowed me to leave with the one-​way rental inside of 10 minutes.
Recommended.

One star based on two things. First, as many have stated, there is no real «Gold» experience here. You can’t just walk up to your car and leave. You have to go to a Gold booth. Lame. Second, I reserved a compact (egg. Ford Focus) and they gave me a Ford Fiesta which is classified by the EPA as a sub-​compact. That’s right Hertz. Look it up. Luckily it was just me and my son but if I’d been with the whole fam damly I would have had to go back to the booth of shame to ask for a different car. I pay extra to rent from Hertz so I won’t have to deal with crap like this.

Staff was helpful and nice, but I just felt like I’m continually getting a sales pitch. We came at a good time, so there was no wait. We had no issues with our vehicle, and turn-​in was a breeze.

As stated by a prior reviewer, the only good thing about this Hertz franchisee is that it is an easy walk from the terminal. Then again, so are all the car rental agencies at BHM.
As a Gold member, the only benefit you get is that you stand in a smaller line than the regular folks. As I stood in line awaiting the slow moving staff’s retrieval of my car, I talked with those around me. They informed me that this location is a franchisee. Many of them have complained to Hertz corporate about the poor service but, apparently, they can’t do anything about it.
This is the worst Hertz location I have encountered and the staff there could care less about it.
