Disappointed! INSECTINFOOD. I have always loved the food here so until today I have never had any reason to interact with the management. I was over halfway finished with my Pig in the Garden salad when I see a rather large bug with wings sitting in the midst of my salad. I show it to the waiter and tell him he might want to share this with the kitchen staff. He takes my plate and I watch as he shows it to his manager. Next the waiter brings us our check as he apologizes(keep in mind I wasn’t finished with my salad although my appetite was lost at this point anyway) and we continue to sit there and wait expecting some sort of apology from the management. I asked the waiter if he had informed anyone about the bug and he simply said yes and took our credit card. I see the manager still standing over by the bar where he had been shown my salad and it is a very slow night in there but it is becoming obvious at this point that no acknowledgment will be made of this incident. So after sitting there a few more minutes no other interaction was made, we paid our bill(including payment for the unfinished salad with insect included) and we left. Despite those amazing cheese biscuits I won’t be back for fear of bugs, poor customer service and horrible management.

I walked in the rain from the hotel just to try BBQ! Got the brisket, coleslaw, and mashed potatoes with gravy. Sat at the bar Tamara was my bartender and she was great. She served multiple guests, answering phones taking orders, and kept up good conversation. This girl needs a raise. She worked her her but off and I had great service.

I was so excited when this location opened about 15 years ago that I walked to opening day because my car battery was dead. I moved out of town shortly thereafter. I’ve returned for visits since and each time I’ve gone to Jim n’ Nicks I have been disappointed. Very small salads, fatty meat, hard dry biscuits, etc were experienced. I kept going back hoping for better. This time topped them all because of the manager. I ordered a pork stuffed potato. After a considerable amount of time I finally received my exceptionally cold potato that had no butter. After finally flagging down my waiter to request butter, I put a little on the potato. It was so cold that the butter wouldn’t melt. I reported that to the waiter and asked for my bill for my tea. The waiter said they would do something great for me and sent the manager over. The got me a hot potato. The waiter apologetically said that he thought the potato would’ve been removed from the bill but it wasn’t so he’d ask the manager. The manager came and asked if I wanted any pie to which I replied no. The waiter returned to tell me that basically I should have taken the pie because that was all I was going to get. Unbelievable that I had to pay for a potato that took me 2 attempts to get an edible one. Worst manager I have ever experienced. The moral to the story is to only order a pork stuffed potato if you actually wanted to eat pie!

First time at a Jim and Nicks. Not bad, great environment and good atmosphere. The food comes out quickly and the staff is friendly. We had Burger 1920, which is excellent and the brisket sandwich which is so so. The potato salad is lacking. I had to add salt, pepper and chipotle sauce to season. All in all, we will come again.

Great BBQ! Everything you expect and want and more. The regular sauce is perfect, also like the hot version too. The bar has a deep selection of bourbon and beer.

We have passed by Jim ‘n Nicks for years, seeing the parking lot full and smelling the b-q smoke lingering in the air as we shopped various stores in Trussville. This time my husband and I decided to give it a try and boy are we glad we did. Our experience started out with the best servers, we were given the specials, and they answered any questions we had and were friendly and helpful. We started out with a onion ring appetizer, served quickly, they were hot and crispy. The little cornbread muffins are out of this world, perfectly sweetened that melt in your mouth goodness, no butter needed for they are seasoned perfectly. We both ordered the 4 meat platter, pulled chicken, beef brisket, pull pork and ribs. The sides(trimmings as they call it) were a choice of 2, I had the collard greens and fries and my husband had the baked beans and fries. The fries were hot and crisp and came on a platter, huge portions no skimping here. The baked beans were mildly sweet and the greens were delicious. Expecting to take some home, little did we know how much we would take home later, for the portions served are large. The(2) sauces were served on the side, the Red,(original bq sauce) and the white bq sauce. The red sauce was served warm in a little dish and was sweet, tangy but not overly so. The white sauce was good but we preferred the red sauce. The beef brisket, pulled chicken, ribs and pulled pork had the right amount of bark, seasoning and were fork tender that melt in your mouth. Our server was most helpful with suggestions and very attentive but not overly. We put at least half of our meals in to go boxes, the portions were huge, and look forward to leftovers later. We ordered the banana pudding and a slice of chocolate pie to go. The pie reminded me of the old time pudding pies my grandmother made with the nice flaky crust with the creamy deep chocolate homemade pudding topped with whip cream. The banana pudding is a must as well, the portion was huge, fresh banana’s and creamy pudding with whip cream to top it off right. We can’t believe we have drove by this place for years and never stopped. So glad we finally decided to try Jim n’ Nicks, we will defiantly be returning HAPPY customers.

The past two trips my pulled pork or brisket has been extremely dry. Also the last trip I went here all of my food was cold. It tasted like my fries had been barely warmed up in a microwave.

Northern Alabama is littered with great places to eat BBQ. In fact, other than Kansas City and Memphis, there’s few other places in the world that rival the number of quality places found locally. Even the chains(Dreamland, Jim N Nicks, Moe’s, Full Moon, etc) are top-notch. With that said of the 10 Jim N Nicks we’ve been to across the country this has been the best. Sure, all the Jim N Nicks are good, but this location seemed to out-duel its peers. This location rivals stand-alone places like Rusty’s, Saw’s BBQ and Saw’s Juke Joint. If you live in Alabama, you’ve likely been to a Jim N Nicks. They litter the state, but not all are created equal. Tuscaloosa, Montgomery and this location are better than average, whereas Auburn needs a bit of work on several fronts. Meanwhile, our server was so good he belonged working at a Ruth Chris or Morton’s, and so was the hospitality. One thing that sets Jim N Nicks apart from competitors is they offer a wide variety of meats that are good. Because of this we usually order the Combo Plate with three meats. My friend grabbed the Carolina pork, turkey breast and beef brisket and for a change the turkey was as good as at Rudy’s(the big Texas chain). It was juicy, tender, packed with flavor and owned most people’s Thanksgiving bird. The pork is pork, but the brisket is often lean, yet still loaded with flavor. Personally, I opted for the Open Face Turkey Sandwich(it’s not on the menu, but you can order it) with gravy. It’s always good. Jim N Nicks is one of the few BBQ places that doesn’t kick out average sides. They make an effort to give their best on every portion of your meal. You normally get two sides, which can make things tough, simply because they have so many quality ones: the mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato casserole, mac n cheese and baked beans(among others) are all very good. Oftentimes, we add a salad to our meal. The greens are always crisp, cool, fresh an the Italian is tasty. Honestly, over more than a few dozen visits(not at this location) we’ve tried almost everything on the menu. If you can fit it in a slice of pie is worthy. I dive into the pecan and chocolate pie when I’m not already stuffed and haven’t drank three grasses of fresh lemonade already. Keep in mind, they also have plenty of beer on tap and great sweet tea.

I eat here regularly during my travels, this Jim and Nicks is consistently good. I get the pulled chicken sandwich and slather on the Captain Morgan white bbq sauce and the Habanero bbq sauce. I can’t express how good this sandwich is. I also get a salad for my side which is always very fresh and tasty.

Awesome BBQ. I’m from Kansas City so I’ve had a lot of great BBQ and this place is legit. I had the brisket sandwich and it was amazing. So are the little cheesy muffins they bring you. My buddy had the pig in the garden salad as was very impressed. If you want excellent BBQ this place will not disappoint!

So I decided to eat here for dinner tonight on a whim. After giving some thought(and since I had gone to the 5 Points South location last week and had the Hamburger Dave), I ordered the Pig on a Bun with two trimmings– baked beans and mac & cheese. The macaroni and cheese was my favorite part of the meal, with the baked beans coming in a distant second. Of course the complimentary cheddar biscuits are yummy, but something had spilled on mine while cooking that was… kind of salty. Not sure what it was. Don’t even want to think about it what it was. On to the main attraction– the meat. The sandwich was just… ok. Not sure if the bun is toasted but mine sure was extra crunchy on one side. The sauce is nothing to write mom about, and I can think of several other places where the meat is spilling out of the bun. Not at Jim-N-Nick’s. It’s just enough to fill the bun. Nothing more, nothing less. I would return– just because I love me some mac & cheese. Next time I’ll try the chicken fingers. Maybe I’ll score a win with those.

What a disappointment! I’ve been to the Jim N Nick’s outside of Nashville several times, and it has always been good. This location was not. The pulled pork was actually just chopped, fatty, and tasteless. The barbecue sauce tasted more like ketchup. At least the baked beans were pretty good. Will not be stopping at this location again.

We were driving through and stopped in for lunch. The service was amazing, Elizabeth, our waitress was very sweet and knowledgeable. Every question we asked about the menu or recommendation she gave was immediate upon request and spot on. While we waited for the food we munched on the cheese biscuits. They were so yummy that we bought 2 packs for home! I had the open faced beef sandwich that was smothered in gravy. I had never eaten brisket like this before, but it was so good! My husband had the BBQ pork potato which was OK in his opinion. The meat was plain for his taste. He didn’t like the regular BBQ sauce and likened it to watered down ketchup, but the habenero BBQ sauce he enjoyed. The sweet tea was perfect for us both. The meal was very filling. Overall it was a great experience, glad we stopped.

This place was pretty good, their cheese muffins are fantastic, their onion rings were great, and my husband and I easily shared a bbq plate. Their coleslaw and fries were also nice. We left naught a crumb. I would definitely be interested in going back to try other things.

The cheese muffins are divine. The cocktail list was old-school awesomeness. Service was attentive and prompt. The Carolina-style pulled pork was divine, and the coleslaw was so fresh it was still moving. The Habanero sauce lived up to its name, and portions were enerous. I am looking forward to my next visit. The only disappointment was the ribs, which were dry hard and over smoked. Perhaps it was an off day on the rib pit. I would not hesitate to visit again.

Great service and friendly atmosphere. Our waitress was attentive and patient. Ordered the ½ lb spare ribs cut up like rib tips. They were a bit tough. The manager allowed us to return and brought out another order, which were better. Loved the cheddar muffins. When muffin basket is empty they ask if you want more. I was going to try the banana pudding but we were too full to order dessert. Can’t wait to return when in the area again.

Was here with a large group of friends and family. Even though our numbers kept growing, the staff was quick to accommodate with minimal wait. Server took drink orders almost immediately upon getting seated. Entrée order taken promptly. Only one order had a minor error and was quickly rectified. The reason most keep coming back are the complimentary cheese biscuits, even better when hot and fresh from the oven. I shared the 2 meat combo(classic pork and beef brisket) with Baked Beans and Macaroni and Cheese with my daughter. My first time trying their brisket. It was good not great, will likely stick with other favorites next time. Classic pork did not disappoint from previous experiences. Baked beans include meat and BBQ sauce, daughter thought it was a little spicy. Macaroni was very creamy with generous amount of cheese on top. My wife had her usual Pig in the Garden salad with smoked chicken instead of pork. Server recommended BBQ Ranch when she initially requested ranch dressing. Will probably be her new standard order. Although we did not have any this time, the pies are excellent. My favorite is coconut followed closely by lemon. Wife and daughter really like chocolate. Really don’t think you can go wrong whichever you choose. My son claimed the remaining cheese biscuits to take home for breakfast.

Jim n nick’s is one of my favorite places to go for lunch in Trussville. Their cheese biscuits are incredible, and so is their service! I try something different most of the time, but lately I’ve been hooked on their smoked chicken quesadilla. It has smoked chicken, cheese, onion, mushrooms, and bell pepper. Get it with a side of their white sauce and it’s perfect! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

I no longer drive to Texas to order amazing beef brisket! Jim N Nicks always delivers. Just check out the packed parking lot when you are on HWY11 in Trussville. The service is always great, the beer is cold, and the BBQ is hard to beat. The act of smoking animal flesh over wood is primitive; Jim N Nicks speaks to my inner subconscious brain with an experience I can’t replicate. Take great BBQ, remove the«Deliverance» aspect, find yourself at Jim N Nicks. Where they won’t make you squeal like a pig.(But you will want to anyway) After 6 trips here, I have upgraded Jim’N Nick’s to 5 stars.
