Kako’s Market

We recently moved into the neighborhood, and the brothers at Kakos were more than happy to welcome us! They’ve always given excellent recommendations and are always glad to explain their choice. A large selection to choose from, specials and rare beverages, seasonal beverages and solid all year round selections.

I’ve been coming to Kako’s brothers for spirited advice since hearing about them through a friend 6+ years ago and continue to drive out of my way to frequent this location. The store is always overstocked, yet clean, while maintaining a bustling costumer base that the brothers’ know by name. I had never known this level of service or professionalism in a party store prior to visiting Kako’s. From $ 10 wines that taste unexpectedly rich, to beers I’ve never thought to bring to parties. They have it. Try their limited production spirits always amazing and a hit at parties!

Seriously the best. I called once when I needed a spirit for an event that I got a last minute heads up on. I needed to pair a cocktail with a dish so I specifically needed soju, which we didn’t carry. I called and luckily kako’s carried. The best part, they were closing soon, and he told me that they’d wait for me and to take my time. Amazing customer service and super friendly anytime I come in.

Very knowledgeable. Customer service was fantastic! Just moved to the area from Arizona. Have went to several specialty liquor shops in the area. THIS is my new bourbon place. Thanks so much! Too bad I had to keep my fiancé and 1 year old waiting in the car while I was being swooned. Haha.

If you’re looking for a good liquor, go here. Hands down.
First of all they are stuffed to the gills — liquor all the way to the ceiling.
Second of all — the brothers that own this place are crazy knowledgeable! They can tell you about pretty much every liquor in their store and are more knowledgeable than some wineries/​vineyards I’ve been to! — and about *way* more types of liquor!
Third — and this is the best part — I go in whenever I get a moment to check out their specials. They frequently have a special bottle of something where they basically buy a barrel of different types of liquor and when that barrel is ready and bottled, they are kind enough to share it with us! I’ve gotten some amazing bourbons and tequilas there.
And lastly — if you are looking for some off-​the-​wall hard-​to-​find weird liquor — they will know exactly what you are talking about and will likely have it or be willing to order it for you. My boyfriend received a bottle of very unique tequila as a groomsman gift and he loved it. Everytime we were in a liquor store or a store with a decent selection, we’d try to see if they had it. We didn’t even know what it was called but on a whim I stopped in at Kakos and he knew *exactly* what I was referring to and had one in stock. Made for an awesome surprise gift to my bf! :)

The owners /​guys working the counter, were very nice and helpful. They helped me pick out a great tequila for Margaritas and even gave me some other tequila drink ideas to try. I felt like I got a little mini lesson and if I wasn’t in a hurry I could have stayed there for an hour talking to those guys lol.
I could tell they were passionate about fine spirits, especially tequila…
I’ll be back soon. I bought this huge bottle thinking it would last all summer and it’s already half gone a couple weeks later ;-)

Have been going to this place for years and for many more in the future. All the owners are wonderful people, but Joe is the man when it comes to recommending what to buy. I love scotch and Joe has introduced me to multiple scotches that I otherwise never would have tried, this is made easier with his extensive selection. He also knows all the other types of liquor as well. This place is soo much more than a party store. First class establishment. Go here!

When I traveling up or down Woodward I love to stop in and pick up my lottery from kakos.
These guys are super nice.
On more than one occasion they have had a fundraiser going for someone or something local… And I adore companies that give back.
As a side note — their wine selection looks pretty darn good too!

Joe and Giovanni are the best! Honest people who actually know wines, and liquor better than ANY other liquor store I have ever visited. Ask for recommendations and you won’t be disappointed.

This is the second best liquor store I’ve ever visited. The first was owned by my dad, back in New Jersey in the 70s and 80s.

This place is one of my go-​to places to get wine! I believe it to be the owner and I’m not sure of his name but he knows a vast amount about wine and is very informative when helping you choose wine. He’s always so excited to help and to teach people about wine and to really help you find something that you’re going to enjoy for a price that is within your budget. I’ve been there a few times and ended up buying his recommendations while only spending $ 20– $ 30 for a few bottles of wine. They also have a huge selection of liquor with mixers and fixings to go with them as well. It’s right on the corner of 14 and Woodward so it’s very easy to get to and definitely worth the stop.

I have read a bunch of reviews here on Unilocal,so I really wanted to like them. I went in and asked how I could get a bottle of pappy van winkle when they got it. I understand it is a very hard item to get and understood I couldn’t just walk in and get a bottle. I was told it wasn’t a good bourbon and when they get it they would only give it to their «high end» customers. I guess I wasn’t dressed nice enough for them, or they didn’t think I looked like I make enough money. It’s generally a good rule to not insult your customers. I will never set foot inside the store again.

Polite, well spoken and engaging owners who obviously know their product. They have a great selection of wine and a wall of scotch that made me shed a tear. This is NOT your typical liquor store by any means.

found kako’s on Unilocal.thought it was right around the corner from my gf’s parents’ house, where i was headed for dinner. but turned out to be a little out of the way. in fact, my gps took me right past several other liquor stores on the way… but i was determined to find this modest looking store with 4.5 stars.
i walked in, looking for a quick six-​pack of local beer, and walked out feeling like i’d discovered the holy grail. kako’s is the type of neighborhood gem that locals love to keep for themselves. however, since i’m both a traveler and a spirits enthusiast, i recommend this small, family owned & operated store to everyone. the owners (brothers joseph & giovanni) are expertly knowledgeable about everything they sell from an eclectic an international selection of top-​notch, well-​priced wine, to a dizzying array of local & global craft beers, to the best small-​batch spirits selection i’ve ever seen — and i work in the wholesale spirits industry!!!
do yourself a favor, go in and ask one of the brothers for some advice on a purchase, taste some top-​shelf whiskey (i recommend the «weller» bourbon) and learn something. the prices are fair and the brothers will not steer you wrong! definitely worth going out of your way!!!
btw, i was there for well over an hour and missed dinner… :)

This is a great liquor store with a large craft and import beer selection. They get some difficult to find beers and the prices are reasonable. However, some of the beer sits out right by the clear glass windows and it does get hot in direct sunlight so I’m not too sure about their storage method. Worth a stop for any beer fan in the area.

This place is the best! From the outside, it doesnt look like much… just a typical little liquor store but its the people that make a difference. The Kakos brothers (Joe and Giovanni) REALLY know their stuff. You want to know about bourbons??? I mean REALLY know? They know everything about the distillery history, down to process, etc. It makes a trip to buy a nice bottle fun! Their selection of fine liquors is as impressive as the knowledge they impart.
Make sure you check Kakos market out… you will not regret it!

So I have this silly idea that I am going to get my girlfriend a bottle of pappy van winkle in my head. We are both bourbon and whiskey drinkers; forgive me for grouping these together (read: f — off). Anyways we have loosely been searching around for a bottle of Pappy for over a year nothing serious and for no real reason besides that its this forbidding fruit. So I call and end up here talking to Joesph. He tells me the same story everyone has; that they sold out in 20 mins. But instead of just blowing me off after that he is really nice and gives me great advice on some other whiskeys that are just as good but readily available. Talks to me for a good 15 mins about whiskeys and the Pappy Van Winkle ridiculousness. Just went out of his way to help me out. I wish all places were like this.

Kako’s is by far the best liquor store you’re going to find. With an abundance of selection in liquour, wine and beer they cater to every palate. The owners know their stuff (Joe & Giovanni) and will always stop to educate you one wine or vodka if you have the time.
A family owned business (Mrs. Kakos still works days), you can see why they have been in business for so long. They recently did an order for my company picnic and everything was seamless. Based on the quantity of people, they tailored the order to suit our needs. THe pricing is fair and they were more than helpful.
Stop by some time and check it out.

Kako’s Market is the «Cheers» of liquor stores; go in once, introduce yourself and chances are the boys will remember you.
I was directed to Kako’s by a friend and co-​worker. The first time I went in, I introduced myself to Giovanni and Joe and asked them if they carried a specific Syrah I was looking for (Sixth Sense Syrah). They said they didn’t– but to write down the name and they will order it for me. The next time I went in there (less than a month later) — their shelves were already stocked with my favorite vino.
Even if I am not in the neighborhood I will always go here to get anything. Just last week I had some friends from out-​of-​town visiting and they were shocked at the selection of hard-​to-​find beers (Arbor Brewing Company and Delirium, etc) and wines.
