There’s not much to choose when it comes to good Chinese restaurant. This place is new and clean. The food taste great, and most important, the staffs are friendly. Will come back for more!

This place is amazing. We ordered egg rolls, spring rolls, general ts’o chicken, and beef chow fun. They were all extremely delicious. Plus, we picked the food up and they were extremely fast. The staff were courteous and polite. Next time I would like to dine in, it looked very clean and comfortable. Plus, they serve beer and wine.

Fantastic! The best Chinese food in Birmingham. The new location in Trussville is great.

Tried the Wonton soup, not the normal version. I didn’t like it and they immediately took it away. Ordered the Pineapple Shrimp and they were delicious! Huge portion. Service was over the top! My drink was never below ½ empty. Not the cheapest, but not too bad, especially with the service and portion size.

The pineapple shrimp and pineapple chicken are awesome. This was my second visit. The service is always excellent as well.

This may be my third Mr. Chen restaurant I have been to. They normally see very good food. I would said they may be one of the best in Birmingham Alabama. They are two Mr Chen restaurants. We pick the one the north of the Birmingham due to our traveling route. We have ordered the beef with cabbage, beef with tofu and Chinese scallions and braise pig feet. The food came out less than 10 minutes. I like the pig feet because they braised it for a long time and everything becomes soft and nice to eat. The restaurant is not busy during the time we have visited. They also serve boba drink. We have the cappuccino and taro. The boba is good not chewy. The service of the restaurant is great. It is good to have this option in Birmingham. We enjoy our time here.

The directions on this page take you on a wild goose chase. They are actually located on the other side of Highway. The service was attentive, but not intrusive. The food was really, really good. I went against my instincts, and instead of ordering my standard Mongolian Beef, I order the Kung Pao chicken, extra spicy(I love a good burn!). The lunch portion was perfect… not too much, not too little, just right! The flavor was really good, although their definition of extra spicy does not match mine. The egg roll may have been the best egg roll I’ve eaten since Joy Young’s closed shop. Next time I will order the mapo tofu. I’ve been making it at home(using recipe). Since I’ve never eaten it at a restaurant, I want to compare it to mine. I’ll get around to ordering the Mongolian Beef at some point I’m sure. The motto of this story is that I’m going back… again, and again, and again.

Not very impressive. Tried it twice now, and it does not compare to the 31 location or the local Chinese in this area. The Chinese restaurant that was there before had better food. Ordered the clam soup the first time, and the clams were obviously not washed properly since there was a lot of sand and grit. They don’t do spicy very well either. The staff was very nice though. I might try it 1 more time before I erase them from my contacts list. Hope they get it together.

Best Chinese in Trussville. My wife and I eat here almost biweekly. It is the same as the one in Hoover.

This was very good. We ordered several dishes and I was very pleased at how fresh everything was. We were a little disappointed at how not spicy the spicy foods were. It’s not quite as good as the one on 31, but it’s significantly better than most of the other Chinese places in Trussville.

I am hopeful that this will become more like the Mr. Chen’s on 31. The people are nice and the service is good. I’ve ordered General Taos chicken several times now to get a sense that the recipe used at this location is far different than on 31. I order very spicy and it’s just not spicy. Also, the sauce is not quite the same. Here, it is very sweet and sour and lacks the spiciness and depth of the one on 31. I prefer the darker spicier sauce used at the hwy 31 Mr. Chen’s. I have not ordered other items from the large menu, just the lunch specials.

Womp womp womp. This is how I felt after eating here tonight. I was in the vicinity after leaving Lifeway and decided to stop here for dinner. I’ve been wanting to try the Hoover location after reading such favorable Unilocal reviews and thought this would be a good substitute. I was greeted by two hostesses.kinda. One just looked at me as if I were from another planet; the other one greeted me. Strike one on customer service. Strike two came when I saw the prices. $ 9.50 for sesame chicken was a little much, especially when I’m used to paying about two or three dollars less. For more food. It did not come with an egg roll and only came with steamed rice. I was told there was an extra charge of $ 1.75 for fried rice. I agreed to it, which leads me to strike three. Strike three came when my eyes caught sight of the kiddie bowl of fried rice that came out with the sesame chicken. Really? So you mean I paid extra for fried rice instead of white rice but actually got a smaller serving? Where they do that at, excuse my slang. Mr. Chen’s, that’s where. This game has four strikes. Strike four came when I tasted the food. Am I going to write home and tell my mom how much I loved my food? Absolutely not. It was lukewarm at best, the orangey sauce on the chicken wasn’t what I remember sesame chicken tasting like, and that expensive kiddie bowl of rice was bland. Did I mention no egg roll? Oh yeah, I did. Well it’s worth another mention. No egg roll. Then my waitress comes and asks me if I want a cup of tea to go. Umm, I guess that’s the nice way of asking me to leave. I politely told her yes, paid my ticket, left a tip and proceeded to high-tail it out of there. No fortune cookie. I saw a bucket of them on my way out and grabbed one. I haven’t opened it yet so I’m not sure what it reads. At the rate Mr. Chen’s is going, I predict a «for sale» sign in their window soon enough. I know I will not be back.

Typical Chinese menu but with added selections, such as squid, flounder, tofu, lamb, seaweed, and bubble tea. The latter is new to the area, so this is refreshing. The flavors include taro, tapioca, coconut, and ginger milk tea among others. They also serve slushes. I ordered the sizzling tofu dish, which included broccoli, snow peas, mushrooms, and Chinese napa with brown sauce. All of the ingredients were really fresh. This place may give Red Pearl, located in Homewood, a run for its money. Nice to have authentic cooking on this side of Birmingham. Happy eating.

Gave them 5 stars mainly because they sell bubble/bobba tea. Not many places do and no others in this area that I know of. I am a huge fan of it so for me it’s a great thing! Tried the food twice and I really liked it. It all seemed very fresh the service is friendly. Food prices are a little higher at night but lunch was very fair.

Best Chinese food this side of town! I was so happy to hear Mr. Chen’s was coming to Trussville. A bit disappointed that the menu doesn’t have some of the more«adventurous» items that the Hoover location offers, but what they do have is amazing. The cumin lamb was great.

My husband and I are going to have to fight the urge to come back tomorrow. This place is crazy delicious! We got the basil spare ribs and will be dreaming of them tonight. Also had the cashew chicken, which had super fresh mushrooms and zucchini perfectly cooked. Also the vegetable combination and wonton soup, both the most flavorful and fresh I’ve had at a Chinese restaurant ever. Period. We will be back very soon and look forward to trying their tapioca milk teas and slushes. Very friendly staff to boot.
