I have been going here for years and I go to Peter and Kaitlin for cut and color. Joe and Clay who own the place have always been wonderful! Anytime I need to get squeezed in with my weird schedule, Joe is so helpful! Awesome people that work there and they do great hair! I highly recommend the place!

My daughter and I have been loyal Orbit clients for over ten years and we would never go anywhere else. Orbit Salon has a fun, relaxed atmosphere with the most friendly, professional stylists around. I always look forward to my appointments with Peter, who I trust completely with my hair.

I was skeptical because I haven’t gotten my haircut in forever, I am very picky, and I got 8+ inches cut off however Ashley did a wonderful job and I am very satisfied! I would definitely come back I also LOVE that they use Davine’s product because this is what I use at home and they are the best. The only downfall is I am donating my hair to CWHL (children with hair loss) and I have been to other salons that offer free service or a discount if you donate and I think this would be great to do since it is truly a wonderful cause.

By far the best Birmingham salon I have ever been to. I’ve been here a few times now & have never had a bad experience. Their space has a fantastic atmosphere with the most eclectic stylists I have ever met. They offer several complimentary alcoholic/​non-​alcoholic beverages while you wait as well as while you are having your hair done. I had an appointment with Elle to cut off a few inches of hair and restyle. She was absolutely sweet and did everything she could to give me the perfect cut. Definitely will return.

I had an appointment with Elle last week and I absolutely ADORE what she did with my hair! I came in for golden blonde highlights on brown hair and the results were spectacular and extremely flattering. She was super friendly and I’ll definitely be back to see her again whenever I need color or a cut. I’ve finally found a place and a stylist that are perfect for me!

After posting my first review, Joe immediately called me the next business day and wanted to help me with the issues we had. He got me in the very next day to have my hair touched up by Lisa. She did a wonderful job completly fixing my roots and blending them into my hair and she also fixed the tag!
Clay, the owner of the shop, who is normally booked out a year, is currently staying past the time every other stylist has and is working on the brides hair. This place is wonderful about responsing to issues and quickly fixing them. Im thankful that they reaponded so quickly and qere able to fix our hair before the bridal festivities begin tomorrow. I highly recommend Orbits amd their wonderful staff!

Absolute gem in the five points area of Birmingham. I had an appointment with Elle. Just a shampoo, blowout and style. I have frizzy– curly hair and with the humidity in the south it’s a challenge to get it looking smooth and nice. She did a wonderful job of being friendly and chatty and did my hair beautifully. She took all of my suggestions into consideration and she even had the smart idea to put it in an easily removable bun so it didn’t get frizzy during the day (I have a wedding at night).
The atmosphere is comfortable and charming, and they nicely offered me a drink when I arrived. They have cool artwork in the waiting area too! The price was extremely reasonable, and I will absolutely be returning as often as I can!

This was my first and, unfortunately, last visit. Upon arrival to my appointment I was greeted and offered a beverage. Beer, wine, soda, water or coffee. I accepted a beer.
I was immediately seated and asked what I wanted. I explained, in full detail, what I wanted and made sure the stylist understood. She nodded and began.
To make a harsh review short, I had to go home and buzz my hair, however the owner contacted me and insisted of giving me a refund after reading my initial review.
I’m sure there are quality stylists there but this particular experience was bad enough to avoid another encounter. As an afterthought, I should’ve asked to speak to the manager and have someone else fix it but I was too caught up in a myriad of unpleasant events to think about it.
I appreciate the owner calling me personally and apologizing and feel like that’s a proper way to handle a business. I firmly believe that gestures like that go a long way.

I rarely write a review but after my visit to Orbit salon with Caroline I felt compelled. I have very fine/​thin hair and have a difficult time getting a good haircut. Caroline delivered a great cut and a unique styling idea that has transformed my look. She is also very easy to carry a conversation with. The staff was also very pleasant. I highly recommend Caroline and Orbit Salon!

I love this place. I have been looking for a «home» in a good place to get my hair cut and feel that I’ve finally found it.
Everyone I’ve met there is exceedingly nice and goes out of their way to make you feel welcome.

YES They do hair cuts for children! I take my granddaughters, aged 7 and 5 here and they are marvelous with them; Cute, manageable cuts even on our very curly haired 5 year old. All the staff are great to deal with and though Catelyn is my excellent stylist of choice several other stylist on staff have cut mine and the girls hair and I have never been unsatisfied with the jobs they did for us or the sevice they provided!

This place it top notch! Excellent, nice but not stuffy, vibe. The staff was crazy friendly and the haircut looks great. It was very affordable and the stylist was a real pro! The only drawback is five points street parking, so leave early enough to find a spot.

I really enjoyed my trip here. They were very friendly, but not annoyingly, super peppy friendly (always a plus). I was offered a beverage immediately, and their coffee was pretty good. My stylist was a few minutes late, but it wasn’t too long and both she and the receptionist apologized to me for the wait. There was a slight snafu with the hot water that morning, but my stylist gave me a discount due to the chilly rinse. Overall, I was very satisfied both with my haircut and experience. I will be going back.
Tips: parking can be a little hairy if you have an appointment around lunch since it’s in 5 points.
If 5 of your friends go there because you recommended it, you get a discount!

I needed a day of hair appointment to get my hair did for a wedding while I was in town. Not only did I get a great time, but the lady, Lisa, was super cool, took her time doing an excellent job on my hair, and gave me some great recs on places to go while I was in B’ham.
They also don’t consider themselves stylists– they’re just people who love working with hair and happen to have the training and street cred to back it up. This really set the tone of the place– chill and laid back, not pretentious at all! Prices were also super reasonable for the area.
The only downside is it might not be the most tidy place in the world, but I didn’t feel like it was unsanitary. I would need a haircut to assess of this place is 5 star worthy, but I’d give it a shot if I needed my hair cut.

I followed Josh here five years ago, when he made it his hair cutting home. Hopefully, he will never leave.
Everyone that works here is overly friendly and the environment is welcoming. I’m always asked if I want anything to drink as soon as I walk in. Even though Josh is the only person that regularly cuts my hair, everyone in the shop knows my name and I know theirs. The prices are fair and the quality is over the top.
Orbit isn’t stuffy or too hip. It’s just a room full of nice folks doing a quality job at a reasonable price.

I have been letting Josh K. cut my hair since 2003 and have followed him to this salon. The atmosphere is low key and friendly, and they offer refreshments while you wait. Josh has a knack for being able to visualize a hairstyle that suits the face and temperament of the recipient. The wait can be a little past one’s appointment time and in the 100 degree heat the window units struggle to keep up, but the stylists are top notch here.

Nicole was great, she listened to exactly what I wanted and did a great job with my short curly hair that is easy to mess up.
Location is funky, wouldn’t go when it’s hot because they just have two AC window units but the feel of the place is fine. I was offered a drink when I came in and the staff were friendly.
No head massage with the wash and could have used a bit more styling time but altogether a great experience and I will definitely be going back again.

This was my first visit to Orbit Salon, and it probably won’t be my last.
When I came into the trendy salon I was offered drinks, which is nice (but I wasn’t interested). After a sort-​of terrible wait (30 minutes), my stylist, Peter, was ready. He was very friendly and talkative which is a chore I’m sure, as I’m somewhat introverted. He was very communicative about my styling, offering to do touch-​ups and letting me inspect the job before my shampooing (which was fantastic).
For me, my $ 28 haircut was a bit high. I’m a guy and I’m used to a $ 20 haircut. That being said, the location is fantastic, the haircut is very good, the service was very nice (despite the wait), and the decorating was pretty good, too.
I’m going to try out another salon or two first, but in all likelihood Orbit will be my new go-​to place in Five Points.

Peter is the only person I will allow to touch my hair! It’s a great trendy salon. Right in the middle of 5-​points, it’s easy to access.
Also I have read another review from a blog that nails it — it’s also a great place for guys to go to who don’t want to go to a «Salon» yet are tired of going and getting that same old generic Supercuts cut.
