This is one of my favorite places in Birmingham. The flavors are authentic and make your mouth water. I eat there about twice a week since I work close by. I usually order the Kofta Special. The hummus is the best hummus in the world, they make it homemade. I go there solely for the food, but everyone is also extremely nice and friendly. I recommend this place to everyone!

Very good! Can’t beat the chicken lunch special for only 8.95! Make sure to try the baklava when checking out its the best I’ve ever had.

4.5 Lovely setup for a nice family dinner or a date. Every meal here feels special and the service makes your experience seem that way. The hostess also comes by each table to ensure all your expectations were met. The entrée sizes are humongous and are served in giant glass dishware meant for baking a casserole. Each entrée is filled with plenty of salad, warm wild rice, sliced fresh fruit, 3 slices of pita bread and hummus. Your meat selection sits pretty on top of the land of food. I ordered the lamb kebab plate. I ordered it medium rare and I wished it was more rare! I also got to try the grouper and the kafta kabob. The kafta was probably the best meatball I’ve ever had in Birmingham. The grouper was very soft and delicious. These two dishes completely surpassed the lamb kebab I had. I think this is the best Mediterranean restaurant in Birmingham.

The pita stop is always good. We had a late lunch and all 4 entrees were good. Our party had the steak omelette, steak sandwich, kibbe and chicken. My first time to try their kibbe and tabouli. I loved it! Definitely a go to place when I’m at UAB.

We had pitas with kafta, falafel and tabouli and it was wonderful. All of the food was pefectly prepared and very tasty. Service was great and we’ll paced. Atmosphere is simple but is an excellent compliment to a good meal. This is the sort of place you can bring friends or family have conversation and enjoy accessible yet exotic tastes.

Grouper Wednesday is King. Some of the best fish I’ve had. Friendly staff. Overall great place.

Seated with no wait. Very light crowd on a week night. Seating easily accommodated our party of 9 and appears to have larger tables also. Orders taken quickly and food arrived promptly. I had the special Filet and wife ordered the recommended seafood kabobs. Filet was cooked as ordered. Very tender and flavorful. Seasoned very well. Kabob lived up to recommendation. Fish was especially tasty. Both included salad, fresh fruit, wild rice, hummus and pita. Kabob was served in a Pyrex dish which was interesting. Baklava was pretty typical. Coconut cake was excellent.

I LOVE the Pita Stop. It has been my fiancé and I’s favorite eatery since I started living in Birmingham and it’s where we always go when we want a nice sit down meal. The service is great and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is amazing. I’ve never had chicken that was so good! My fiancé always gets the omelet and he has never been disappointed. This is a pricier place for dinner time($ 30 – 40 for two) but absolutely worth every penny. We’ve taken friends who have also loved it! Great place to take someone on a date! Quiet, intimate! You must eat here!

Chiken Kabab was great. I didn’t like the kofta … also the orange juice wasn’t fresh even though the waiter said it was. The place is neat and good for family.

This is a good local Mediterranean restaurant. As one reviewer said, it is unpretentious and affordable. The portions are large and you can come out from lunch for under $ 10. The place is larger than one might imagine, and there was plenty of seating at lunch time. I like the servers and staff. They were attentive and helpful. One should also note that there is sufficient free parking. I had the pita(falafel) sandwich, which came with a little side of hummus and tabouli. The sandwich was indeed tasty and large – I could only eat half of it and saved the other half for dinner. The tabouli seemed a little old and mushy. The hummus was good.

Mediocre all around, in my opinion. But others seem to like it a bit more.

One of my first Birmingham bookmarks, we came here for lunch on my last day of the project to celebrate success. It was a mistake to wait so long — this is great food! Fast casual middle eastern. Pitas and hummus, shish kabobs and kafta. I don’t know if it’s healthy, but it certainly tasted fresh and it was definitely filling. I opted for the«chicken» lunch which arrived with a pile of chicken on top of rice, a small pot of hummus, a quartered pita and a large salad. Two bowls of oil and vinegar with spices were on the table so that you could add as much or as little as you liked. The chicken was tasty, I just wished that there was more of it. But for around $ 10 with a sweet tea, it was a good deal. A great meal. Delish! Unlike parking downtown, there’s no meter here!

Great for lunch or a quiet dinner. I have been eating at the Pita Stop since 1981, and recently my husband and I decided to in to Birmingham to celebrate our 37th Anniversary at our favorite Mediterranean restaurant. We had a great meal and it reminded me that in all the years we have gone there we have never had a bad meal. The Pita Stop is usually crowded at lunch with folks from the nearby hospital and the rest of UAB, but the food is just as good at night, when things may seem slow if an event is not going on nearby. Although the Pita Stop has tripled in size from when we first started eating there, the décor is simple, but the staff is excellent. This is a place to go for great food, in a comfortable atmosphere. The prices are reasonable because you aren’t paying for pretentious decorations.

Nice lunch joint. Food is decent, service is excellent, the place looks very nice, price is in line if not cheaper than other lunch-spots around the campus. Cool but nothing special

We ate twice this week at the cahaba heights location and had wonderful meals both times. The fish kabob was perfectly cooked and deliciously flavored. The amberjack was also terrific with a subtle lemony flavor. My husband raved about the coconut cake. Service was fast and pleasant. Altogether an exceptional dining experience.

Service was mediocre. No pita bread? Food served in a Pyrex dish?

I didn’t really get it, but everyone loves this place. My daughter and I stopped there for lunch on a Saturday. First off the restaurant was freezing so it was hard to enjoy a meal when you have to leave your jacket on. We ordered tabouli appetizer and then shared the steak kabob. Large portion, and we didn’t realize it came with a salad. Maybe the waiter could have told us so we didn’t have tabouli and a salad. We had enough food to bring home leftovers.

I love this place. I haven’t had a dish go wrong in 20 years, and everyone here is always so friendly. You can eat very well here with the basic steak kabob or seafood kabob, or if you want something a little nicer, there are options that way as well. I love the cauliflower appetizer and my favorite dish is the combination kabob. The staff here is always super friendly. This is one of my top-missed places from the Ham. I’ve reviewed the other location, as well, but it’s written in more depth.

The food is great here. I love their hommos and also their steak kabobs are a favorite menu item. I’ve been here two times and the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that both times we’ve had ok service. I think they are always understaffed. It just seems like things just take a lot longer than they should. Everyone is nice once they get to your table, it just may take a while.

It’s been years since I’ve been here. It is still good. Ordered the Grilled Kafta sandwich. It came with a side of rice. Everything was good and fresh. Will have to remember to come back more often.
