I stopped at Sinbad’s to get something different. This place is definitely a hole in the wall but the portions are big and the food tastes good enough. I wouldn’t describe it as traditional Greek food, so if that’s what you’re expecting you won’t be pleased, but if you’re looking for something other than a franchise near UAB hospital it’s worth a shot.

I eat here on occasion when I don’t bring my lunch to work. I always get the gyro chicken wrap and it never disappoints. The people are nice as well. Easy cheap lunch

I went to eat here yesterday because it was a close walk from UAB Hospital. I had a few hours to kill while my Mom had an outpatient procedure. Three blocks and I passed by a Milo’s and once you’ve eaten at ten Milo’s you have eaten at them all and I passed by a Subway and once you’ve eaten at 100 Subways you’ve eaten at a million. I was looking for something different. So I see Sinbad’s and I see the word Mediterranean. Yessss. I ordered the grilled chicken and swiss sandwich combo and a greek salad. I clumsily poked a hole in my styrofoam cup after filling it with ice and fruit punch and juice started dripping everywhere. I took the cup back to the register and asked the lady for another cup showing her mine leaking. She quickly took it from me handed me another and sent a man out to wipe the floor up. He didn’t come with a mop but a bucket of what looked like to me fresh warm soapy water and he got down on his hands and knees and commenced wo wiping not only where I dripped fruit punch but everywhere that looked like it needed it. I felt like the place was clean; no unusual smells; even a group of 4UAB doctors/rns/physician assistants/interns came in to eat. If it’s good enough for a hospital employee it MUST be clean right? The greek salad took the cake. It was very good and plentiful with the feta cheese and tomatoes. The dressing was very unique and the fries were the first fries in the world I have not used any ketchup on because they were good the way they were. It was a beautiful day so I sat outside under one of the parasol tables so I guess I avoided any of the awkward staring Whitney talked about.

Was recommended by a friend and I decided to try it. First thing I noticed was the smell. You know the one: That freshly mopped gas station bathroom with the open floor drain full of God-only-knows-what? Yep. Small place so I can only imagine that we actually WERE smelling the bathroom. Smelled like somebody recently pinched off a good one in there. Next thing I noticed was the ketchup. I opened the squeeze bottle on the table and it snapped open with a loud POP. A quick sniff and a glance at the BUBBLES forming in the neck told me it was most certainly fermented in the bottle. This happens sometimes at places that leave their ketchup out all the time but they’re supposed to wash them out every now and then and replace it. Looked around at the other tables and it was the same story all over. Food came out and was mediocre; Standard fries with lowry’s seasoning on them and a gyro wrap which was most certainly nothing to write home about. Upon a second drink refill I noticed that the drink taps probably hadn’t been cleaned in a while as there was visible mildew/mold forming in the clear spigots. Went back to work and told my co worker about it and he told me that a different family has recently bought the place a few months back. Do yourself a favor and go to Makarios instead; You’ll get far more for way less and the food quality and cleanliness have never been in question for me.

The owner here is super nice! Reasonably priced and large portions. Most importantly, it tastes good! I’m a big fan of the chicken baker here.

Had gyro plate to go. Not super clean. Pictures on wall helped to see what you can order. Food was ok but not worth an extra star. Pita bread was hard. …I like it warmed and softer. Came with slices of orange for desert or palate cleansing…

Two things that really irritate me about a restaurant: making me feel uncomfortable, and being dirty. This place accomplished both. 1. I don’t know how to explain it, but I just did not get a good vibe when I walked in. It felt like they were doing the bare minimum in order to be clean. Does that make sense? I just kind of felt an overall grossness. And sure enough, while we were eating, one of the boys was putting new cups in the cup thingy. He dropped two cups on the nasty floor mat that is under the drink machine and instead of tossing them out, deliberately mixed them in the middle of the cups and put them in the cup dispenser. I will admit, I have been known to use the 5 second rule, but doing this at a restaurant is just unacceptable in my book. 2. There were two women there, I am guessing the owner’s wife and sister… whoever I don’t know/care…they had a major staring problem. You know how you can always tell if someone is staring at you? Each time I looked up they were looking at me. Multiple times they were in a group of 4 and each one of them would turn around and look at us. And believe me, it wasn’t the kind ‘checking to see if you need service’ look. Maybe they have never seen a whitey with a brownie. Either way, it made for an awkward lunch. Anyways, yeah. Will not be back. They can give their floor droppings and weird looks to someone else.

This is a great place to grab a quick lunch. The falafels are awesome, good for vegetarians. Wish we had a place like this in Montgomery.

Stopped in for lunch once. Nice casual diner with outdoor seating. Good gyro sandwich and chicken fingers.
