I’m updating this review because they have fixed all of their hiccups. It’s by far the best pizza in the ‘ham if all you want is a simple pie. If you want something out of the ordinary I would still go for Slice. I’ve had the Italian which was fantastic and the pepperoni. Their cheese bread is awesome. I am craving it right now!

I had the opportunity to experience Post Office Pies. This is a cool yet casual place for friends to sit and relax over pizza. The vibe of place from the signature drinks to the T.V.”s, has made it one of my instant favorite hangouts.

Made to order pizza on excellent crust with fresh toppings. Communal type tables and a fairly high noise level due to all of the hard surfaces inside. Love the ambience and will be back for the swine pizza and jalapeño cheese bread!

I cannot believe that I have not reviewed POPs yet but it’s probably my favorite pizza in town. Why? They understand well done. That bit of char is why I eat pizza. They use quality ingredients. Good specials. I hear they are doing some specialty pasta dishes now but have not tried any. Mostly nice servers. Why do I not like it? Eating in is still a zoo. Good for them but not for me with a toddler. In 2 years or so of being open, they have changed the pick-up/take out counter three times now. Speaking of takeout, I do not think my pizza has been ready yet when I have arrived. See zoo above. With that said, I continue to love it and return but again, mostly for takeout. The cheese breads(love the jalapeño) are also a reasonably good deal

This was honestly the BESTPIZZA I’ve ever had. The sauce is incredibly well made and the cheese, oh the cheese, there is something magical about the cheese. The pepperoni is savory and the chicken is perfect. The pesto chicken pizza is divine. I usually hate pesto chicken pizza but this is a game changer, honestly the only place I will eat pesto chicken. The service is amazing, quick and perfect! I saw them on a list of 33 best pizza shops in america, but I was informed by the staff that they are officially 11th in the nation, and boy do they deserve it! I recommend this place to anyone staying/visiting Bham’. Incredible pizza, I will definitely be coming here again! Well done Post Office Pies!

This place has become a weekly spot in the line up of dining. Our go-to order is a margarita pizza with a Cesar salad and the occasional Battlefield IPA to rinse it all down. Hands down the best pizza to eat around town. You will leave Avondale feeling very happy after this pie hits your tummy. It is light tasting and feels refreshing to eat. Back when we first started to come here about a year ago, it seemed that the quality control was off a little, but more recently each time we get a margarita pizza, it is perfection! The Cesar salad can still be a hit or miss, but it’s obviously good enough that we order it every time I! We have also tried the swine pie, which is VERY heavy on meats! It’s good, but probably best to only eat 1 – 2 slices. We have also made our own pie/supreme type pizza, which was delicious! Pretty much it’s the fresh ingredients, the amazingly soft and slightly crunchy dough and the basil that make these pizzas great. Expect a decent wait time at peak hours. Also they recently split bar tabs from the food bills, which can make the ordering process slightly longer than expected.

First of all who doesn’t love pizza?! It practically sells itself! That being said, Post Office Pies is THE place to go for some fresh, savory, juicy pizza! Not to mention it’s perfectly located in the center of Avondale touching Birmingham’s favorite Brewery! Piece of advice: Beer and Pizza = Winning Not to mention they have been recognized as one of the top 33 Best Pizza Restaurants in AMERICA! So what are you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy some of its award winning deliciousness!

Best pizza in Birmingham. It can get pretty busy during events and the weekend. Staff is very friendly. The swine pie is a must have! Sooooo gooooodd. They have a great selection of beers from Avondale Brewery.

We stopped by this little jewel had 3 places to chose from decided to do something different so we went for pizza. I ordered the chicken pesto and it wasn’t a bad call. The pizza was fresh and delicious!

This is easily our favorite pizza spot in the city, and the fact that it’s a three-minute walk away is just perfect. Now, they had some glitches in the very beginning, but they have done a great job recognizing their sore spots and quickly improving and adding even more to what they offer! Post Office Pies specializes in creating pizza with farm-fresh ingredients, cooked to perfection in a wood fired brick oven. You can watch them create and bake their pizzas, and you can really taste the difference in how they cook them. One of our good friends gets the Swine Pie each time – and he devours it. We usually create our own with a margherita base + ricotta, roasted red peppers, and cherry tomatoes. They have really interesting specials that you should pay attention to, especially since they are usually really unique combinations at a reduced price. The salads are also really great, and they have a lot of seasonal combinations that you should look out for. They had a great winter salad with arugula, beets, goat cheese, and lots of other things I can’t remember right now! My go-to salad is the brussels sprout salad with kale(without bacon). I love, love that they serve Avondale beer! They have wine, too, but their beer-centered cocktails are really worth trying. My favorite is the Beer-mosa! The wait can be pretty long on the weekend, especially on weekend nights. We usually get carry out on those nights! However, the wait is certainly worth it. If you have time, you could always submit your order and then head over to «wait» with some beers in the joint outdoor area that Post Office Pies shares with Avondale Brewery!

I’m sure this place is packed on any other days, but I came here at the right time. The garlic cheese bread is good but I can do without the marinara sauce just because I like my dipping sauce to be thicker and there is just watery and bland. My pizza wasn’t burnt which is good but every time I get another slice, the cheese slides right off the pizza. Overall, my experience was pleasant and the employees here made it better with there friendly attitude.

One of many pizza joints in town and it’s hard to rate every one of them the best… It takes a while to get your food, but it is freshly made so that is what you are waiting for. It would be nice if they served more variety other than Avondale but I heard they can only sale their beer due to contract terms. The main dislike I have is that the pizza is almost always burnt on the crust.

I was told that I had to go to Post Office Pies when I was visiting Birmingham, but I was really underwhelmed. It was PACKED when we got there(it was a Saturday night), but the woman at the register told us it would be at least a 30 minute wait for pizza. We got a Margherita pizza to share — and it was not one of the better I’ve had. The sauce was very underseasoned — and tasted tinny, as if just poured out of a can onto the pie. The tomatoes as well. Cheese had an unusual texture(either due to the cooking time or the cheese itself). Based on just this pizza, I wouldn’t go back. Maybe everyone that recommended it has been pretty gone(it’s on a street with a lot of bars — and there’s a brewery next door) when they ate it? It was unexceptional.

Really good pizza! This place will not disappoint you! I am giving this place 4 stars because I have not been to «Slice» yet and I am unable to compare the pizzas. But, if you read some of the other reviews, it seems like a neck and neck battle for best pizza in town! Setting: Close to melt and saturn! Easy to find but parking could be an issue. Plenty of seating inside and they had 3TV’s if you are looking for a place to watch an event. Quality of food: Super fresh. You actually can see them preparing the dough while you wait. Stone cooked pizza is my favorite and I think any Pizza fiend would agree that there is nothing better than a perfect stone crust pizza! Everything tasted really fresh and I was impressed with the amount of flavors they could pack into one pizza! Service: Super friendly. Didn’t have much interaction with the people working but the lady at the counter was super helpful! Would I bring my mother here? 100% Overall: Most definitely one of the best Pizza spots in town. You will not be disappointed!!!

Blah blah blah rapturous adjectives. Blah blah blah gratuitous mention of chef from New York. Blah blah blah Avondale and the nearby microbrewery. Blah blah more mentions of how Avondale has become the newest hipster mecca, the kind of place where everybody photographs their food. Blah blah more porkpie hats and retro apparel than you can shake a stick at blahbity blah. Blah blah Birmingham’s coming up in the culinary universe blah blah. Sorry. I didn’t want to reinvent the wheel when everybody else has covered this territory with their own reviews. But it’s one helluva good ‘za. Definitely worth the trip.

This is our go-to for a pizza night. I have eaten here numerous times and it’s always delicious. I really appreciate them being open on Christmas Eve. We had been out of town visiting family for the holidays and got back into Birmingham in the early evening. Of course there were a variety of fast food options open, but it was nice to see POP open that evening. We ventured from our typical pizza to a Caesar Salad and the pasta special-Spaghetti and Meatballs. I’ve had the meatballs as an appetizer before, but they were even better on top of the pasta. My favorite pizza is the Swine Pie. You can’t really go wrong with anything from Post Office Pies.

As soon as you walk in you grab a menu or look at the board to the left as see the specials then order to the right then sit down. To start we ordered the meatballs $ 9 for 3 these are a must try. Really flavorful. A 12 inch pepperoni pizza was $ 14. It’s big enough to share. Next time I will order my pizza with extra sauce. The pepperoni pizza was really good. The pepperonis are big the cheese is just right and the Pizza dough is just right. Inside has a hipster vibe but not to bad if your not a hipster yourself you won’t feel out of place. There are several tvs so you can watch a game. And it seemed like they had a lot of beers. Over all really cool place

Great pizza, understaffed service. I need to preface this review by saying I came here the last day they were open before a major holiday, so there were a ton of people here. There was 1 waiter for the entire restaurant, which I thought was ridiculous. It took us quite a while to get our food(our appetizer came out reasonably on time, but our 2 pizzas took upwards to an hour to arrive). The being said, the food was great. I didn’t get a chance to try any of their beers on tap, but I’m sure it would have made for a great combination with the pizza. We ordered the garlic cheesebread as an appetizer, which looked and tasted pretty similar to a cheese pizza to be honest(take that as you will). That is, it didn’t taste very garlic-y, except for near the center part of the cheesebread. We ordered two 12-inch pizzas: the Italian and the Avondale special. The crust and dough on the pizzas were crunchy on the outside, but soft on the inside, which was great. The Italian was good, but the special was the real standout. Made with a roasted garlic spread, ricotta, pecorino romano, jalapenos, red onions, and fresh basil, it was packed with a ton of flavor and had a pretty strong kick to it as well. Have more than one waiter out when it’s busy(we had to scout for tables because there were so many people). Otherwise, a nice spot for pizza in Birmingham.

I was visiting in downtown B’ham on a Sunday afternoon and trying to find a place for lunch. Our first 2 choices were either way too busy or closed. Someone suggested Post Office Pies… so glad they did ! The pizzas are cooked in giant wood ovens which gives them a delicious crust. I got the Margherita Pizza with Fresh Mozzarella, Basil and Whole Cherry Tomatoes. My friend got the special pizza of the day– House-made Sausage, Sweet Peppers, Cilantro and Mozzarella. They were both delicious ! They have Avondale craft beer on tap from the brewery next door. It’s a great beer. I highly recommend this restaurant !

Kudos for being part of a developing neighborhood. I think this speaks highly of not only ownership and employees, but customers who support this joint. Its pretty cool how there’s a partnership amongst neighboring restaurants/bars. Clean w/3 bathrooms, friendly hardworking staff(worth tipping), delicious pizza w/fresh local ingredients. Abundant craft beer selection helps after a long day at work or a casual Saturday afternoon. I will be back.
