Jasper, AL is my stop and stretch my legs, get gas and grab a snack or meal point in my travels from Augusta to Memphis and back. Getting an early start back to Augusta, I decided to check this place out since it was just behind the Shell station where I get my gas. It’s in an old strip mall Next to what I think was a hair supply store. The fried fish sign and gentleman’s thumbs up while walking through the parking lot gave me the corsage to try it. The place was clean despite its age. There were a couple guys sitting and eating in front of a large TV. The menu was full of fried deliciousness. Mister and I had fried fish and fries. I can never turn down fried green tomatoes and I just couldn’t resist ordering the fried Oreos. Everything was perfectly fried and the portions generous. There was so much I had to bring the rest home. While I won’t be driving back to Memphis much longer, I assure you I will make sure I make a stop here before my trips end.

As far as wing joints go, and we’ve got lots of them in town, Red Rooster is pretty good. I ordered the 10 piece wing combo, and was not disappointed. Wings were huge, well cooked, and adequately sauced. Fries were nice and crispy. My only complaint is that I had to add additional hot sauce to make my nose sweat. For the Average Joe, the sauce was probably spicy enough. Price was very reasonable. Oh, yeah. The place could have used a good sweeping, but as I took my food to go, it wasn’t that much of an issue.
