I am not Canadian and I generally buy American, but this place is the best exception! Great outdoor selection of sleek styles for those cold winter nights. They also have leather bags and unique gift items. The staff is friendly and is willing to find multiple types of flannel plaids!

I’ve purchased one or two things from Roots while in Toronto and low and behold there’s now a store in downtown Birmingham? Yay! They have the best sweatshirts ever. It’s somewhat ridiculous how much I’ll spend on good lounging gear, but considering the cold climates in Michigan, it’s an excellent excuse. The store is located next to my other favorite store west elm. The space is somewhat sizable with their signature lodge cabin look and fixtures and nesting tables filled with warm, cozy goodness. They also have a great sale section towards the back which is always a good idea to check out, and they of course have their ‘impulse buys’ aka socks near the register. I’m a sucker for thick socks and they carry a good variety of over the knee and leg warmers in a variety of fun colors and patterns. A fun store to stop into when in the area.

I have always been a fan of Roots clothing. Their clothes are rugged and durable. I have owned some Roots items for more than a decade(yeah, I should clean out my closet). Plus, I like their beaver logo. To me, Roots is like the Gap of Canada. There is not much to say about this location itself since it is the only location I can get to without pulling out the passport. However, the staff is always friendly.

I bought a purse from Roots for two reasons: 1) they’re made of high quality leather and 2) they’re made next door in Canada(try finding a company that doesn’t outsource their purses to China, I dare you). This particular location is nice enough — clean, well-stocked, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I think I lost my phone when I was trying on purses though :( ETA: They found my phone: D

Nice clean store. All of their selection has amazing quality. They specialize in: leather goods, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and outdoor gear. The staff is wonderful and very helpful!:) Pants are about $ 70, sweatshirts about $ 50.

roots boots. roots jacket. roots sweats. roots hats. gimmie some roots! i lusted over the coveted«roots boots» in 5th grade… i wanted the black suede ones… and i finally got them that christmas. i also lusted after the totally hip in the late 80s-early 90s roots varsity jacket. instead i settled for the cheaper limited too version(boo) but a few years later, i wouldn’t wear that thing again… i’m sure. the roots jackets are so cute on the lil ones anyways… like my lil cousin antonia(we got her a mini purple one back in ’96). this store is an institution in birmingham. they started outfitting campers(tamakwa, tanuga, tamarack, etc) and ended up being the go-to spot for sweats and outdoor clothing. i have probably 10 roots sweatshirts(probably 3 from the early nineties) and i will never give them away, they’re the softest, coolest sweats. i just bought a fur bomber hat that is saving my head this chillier-than-shit ’08 winter. also, when they have a sale(and if it includes any of their sweats) jump on it! some of the usual roots signature stuff never goes on sale… but i’ve had my roots gear so long, the price is worth it… trust me!
