The food here is always fresh, and hot. You’ll find more on the menu than a regular Mexican restaurant, so there always seems to be something new and different to try.

Love this place. Come here every week with my boyfriend and they always sit us with the same server because they know we love her. She knows our order and everyone always checks on us. The service and atmosphere is awesome. And the food… ISINCREDIBLE!!! Definitely a place to check out!

Decided to try based on recommendation without looking at reviews on Unilocal.I wish I had looked beforehand, not that I wouldn’t have still tried but would have been more informed about what to order. I did not like having to walk through the many smokers outside on benches to get in the door. I was seated in a reasonable amount of time and order taken quickly. I ordered from the lunch menu — taco, chili relleno, rice and beans. It was good but just the typical Mexican that you can find most anywhere and nothing that I would go out of my way for. Overall service was a little slow and not at all what I see at most restaurants of the type. I will try again, primarily for the Peruvian menu I now know about.

Well first, I am new in Birmingham and have not been here for too long so when I heard that there was a Peruvian restaurant I was extremely excited!(parents are from Peru). Coming to a different state has been a bit difficult with trying to find good places to eat or at least similar dishes that I would eat back home so now that I know this is here I am excited to continue trying the other Peruvian dishes they have on their menu!!! I love food and so today I wish I was able to try all their plates, but I went with the first two plates that are a lot more popular of the Peruvian dishes. I ordered papa a la huancaina and lomo saltado. I was totally surprised! They are different in their own way, papa a la huancaina a bit more spicy then what I am used to but overall I am super happy! I can’t wait until my family comes and visits again so I can take them to try their food as well as bring some friends to try Peruvian food for their first time! I looked at their desserts and appears as if they don’t have any Peruvian desserts on their menu but maybe on special occasions? Because if they would have alfajores and lucuma that would complete their menu! I am a fan so I’ll definitely be coming back! :)

Not a great experience tonight. The Arzoz con mariscos was wretched, the seafood smelled rancid! After we called their attention to the bad seafood and my husband ordered two soft tacos, they were awful too!!! Floating in grease! The salsa and margarita were good but not enough to save the night. Disappointed as we ha e had great experiences in the past.

After living in Birmingham for a couple of years now and«sampling» various Mexican/Latin American restaurants, I have finally decided on a favorite in town with Sabor Latino being it. Whether it’s for lunch(with great lunch prices) or for dinner, their food is always reasonably priced and especially delicious. I have even tried a few options off their Peruvian menu which I particularly enjoy. Sabor Latino also has great drink specials throughout the week and has a large enough space where it never seems particularly crowed.

The service is amazing. Food is surprisingly great for how cheap it is. Come here every Wednesday, wouldn’t have it any other way.

You know how you have that place where you always go and they know you and your order? This is that place, they have been there for over 16 years and are family owned and operated. The Peruvian menu sets them apart from any other Mexican restaurant in town. I have asked for all sorts of substitutions and they have never batted an eye. From their ceviche mixto to the Lomo saltada for the less curious, everything us flavorful. My favorite is a beef dish with white rice and white beans with a tart onion mixture over the whole mix!!! Bistek combinado con frijoles. And don’t forget the tres leche for dessert!

Whenever we decide to come here, we always view it as a treat. It isn’t a place we frequent weekly. But we are always happy when we do. First of all, we have never had to wait to be seated and never had bad service. The drinks are well priced. $ 2 Mexican Beers on Monday and Tuesday(I remember that specifically because that was the special on our last visit). And a pretty good happy hour other days. Margaritas aren’t anything extraordinary, but you can’t go wrong with a beer. It is mentioned in other reviews, but their Mexican fare is not their best. It’s decent, but that is not why you should go. Their South American menu is what you should go with. I want to explore that part of the menu more. But it is hard for us to go away from what we think is one of our favorite dishes in Birmingham. The Arroz Con Mariscos is FANTASTIC. If you are not very adventurous, the seafood includes muscles and calamari. But if you are open to that type of thing, a must try. The portions were cut down recently. So we typically split an order and each get something else. My wife is a huge fan of their tamales. But in our experience, you should stick to getting them on the weekend. I think they might be fresher then. The location and interior might seem a little sketchy. But worth the trip if you choose wisely.

Place is nice for groups. They have $ 1 martinis on Wednesday and Saturday, which were pretty good. Food is just decent, nothing fancy.

First time here and ita pretty decent. It was not busy at all so we didnt have to wait long for the food. Its just a regular place for mexican food. nothing extra about it. The waitress didnt speak English clearly so at times we had to repeat ourselves. The price was good for what was ordered. Ill come back on a regular night to grab good. Its a chill spot.

Price is the only redeeming factor, but not worth the cost savings. Chips tasted like they’d been fried in old oil, chicken in both my quesadilla and soft taco was bland, shredded chicken that looked and tasted like it came out of a can and was boiled. The tacos leaked so much chicken boil juice you’d think chicken tortilla soup had been spilled on the plate. Won’t be coming back here, with so many options for cheap Mexican food around town this one can be scratched off the list.

Today was my first time coming here and I must say was not impressed at all about anything that i really encountered here at all. We had a new waitress for starters that was not good was not so great with English or it could have been listening cause when ever she repeated something back it seemed correct as add the order went. I don’t totally blame her but when i asked of particular questions she kept saying she did not know, I’m like i understand your new but the menu you should know about something on it. So i have up on that part. Aside from that issue was not that attentive add a waiter had to come back to get my refill and go our check for us idle what happened to her. The food though was nothing special only just ok at the most, would not really recommend it to anyone for casual and definitely not for a date. The inside also just looked rather raggedy and dinky, but since all else failed the extra waiter seemed nice. But there is definitely a reason why the place is empty on the inside.

Let me start by saying that I was really excited to come here after not having been for awhile. I specifically wanted their ceviche, which I’m no expert on but I’m told is some of the best in town. I came here on SEC Championship Saturday with a party of seven. The restaurant was relatively empty so I figured service would be decent. Our waiter seemed mostly attentive, except he skipped one person in taking their order, and was sort of a hassle to flag down again. Oh, and somewhere between getting our food and wanting to get the check, our waiter straight up left the building, which we didn’t find out until well after we had finished eating and were waiting to see him again to get our checks. We asked another employee to find him, and he came back saying our waiter had left. The other random dude got our tickets, though, and thankfully they were correctly divvied up. We notified the lady behind the front counter of our waiter’s surprising absence, and she did not even know he had left. One of the folks in our group used to be a regular and said this waiter has been there for years, he wasn’t some apathetic newbie skipping out on his shift. My fajita quesadilla was good and everyone else seemed to enjoy their food, but if this had been anyone’s first visit, they’d probably never come back. And considering this place isn’t exactly convenient to any part of my commute, I probably won’t bother again.

I’ve eaten at Sabor Latino Twice now, the first time the food was pretty good and flavorful, this second time. Not so much, everything that wasn’t burnt black was pretty bland. This review is based on my August 11, 2013 visit. I had the Sabor Latino Fajitas; it’s a fajita mix with chicken, steak and shrimp. And as you can see in my pictures posted from this last visit, the food was burnt black, to the point of it not being edible, especially the food that was on the bottom layer. But I am not one of those people who send food back unless its undercooked, so I just enjoyed my meal the best I could. My girlfriend even mentioned that her favorite dish there, the pollo con champinones(a dish she has eaten many times here) was bland and not as flavorful as it use to be. All in all the restaurant is ok I guess, Like I said before, one time it was great, the next time. not so much. The service is good, the prices are good etc etc. I only gave it a three star rating because the first time was pretty awesome, if it hadn’t been for that. It probably would have been a one star.

Damn fine food. Here’s the trick: The folk who run the place are not Mexican: they just cook Mexican food ‘cos that’s what you’re looking for. They’re Peruvian. Camarones a la Diabla are deadly. Margaritas are fine — if a bit wee(but also cheap). All the Peruvian stuff is fab. If you’re in BirmingHAM(As opposed to Birmingh’m, ’round from where I’m from), get here.

This is my go-to restaurant right by my office. It is a Peruvian restaurant, but they serve standard«Mexican» fare for lunch. Personally, I like their salsa, as it doesn’t have the metallic taste that I taste at most«Mexican» restaurants. I have had the calamari for dinner, and it was quite good. For lunch I usually order the spicy burrito, but their quesadillas are quite good as well. Great place to eat lunch on a hot Friday afternoon. I love that the World Cup is on the TV when it is happening.

Hey fellow Unilocalies! You know, I love ya but I have been spoiled rotten by excellent Mexican food in Texas and California and this here Sabor Latino place just did not hit it for me at lunch time. The situation was that I was VERY hungry and not really knowing exactly where I should go and actually in this shopping center by accident. So there is this place and I decide WTH and head in there. The place is empty for the most part. The floor is kind of crumb filled and the tables are not really that clean and kind of sticky like. OK, fine. I am not a huge germophobe and have eaten in different conditions in other countries. Fine. I am a VERY friendly and polite monkey everywhere I go to everybody and say things like«hello», «good-morning», «please», «thank you» and I also use the terms«sir» and«ma’am» to everybody. Period. The waiter seems very displeased with my very existence. I get cold chips, really lame«salsa» that tastes more like from a bottle or jar and worn out plastic cups. Fine. I ask about the tamales because I am CRAVING. First question I ask: Are your tamales fresh or frozen? Waiter seems insulted that I would dare to ask and insists they are fresh! OK. I ask if they are pork and he says they are chicken. OK. So tamales arrive and they are good sized. They come with a bowl of Chili Con Carne which I sample with a chip and it is not too bad. Fine. I remove husks and tamales are wet like they have been frozen but de-thawed. I don’t know how to explain but you can just tell the difference. I have eaten thawed frozen tamales and they are good but just require a special way of being re-heated. They need to be thawed and then reheated NOT in a microwave. I am starving so I dig in and there is an enormous difference in the corn to meat ratio and its just not that great. Too much soggy corn. OK? Sorry. Maybe on another day. The guacamole was good and fresh made but the rest of my experience was not that great. Spanish rice was not bad and the beans were well. beans. I will say one thing in their defense. This place claims to serve South American and Peruvian food and I did not go for those specialties. I did not do the Ceviche because of the vibe here and was not in the mood for it. I was hungry for Tamales and was disappointed. I might consider trying this place again and going for their supposed specialties because this visit just didn’t hit it ! See you next time Sabor Latino. then again. maybe not.

A Latin Restaurant in Birmingham? Yes! I was very pleased with the food and drinks. I arrived with my family and we were immediately drawn to the pitcher of margaritas! I mean who can resist margaritas? I know I can’t. Good choice. It was delicious. The restaurant itself is nothing special. It kind of reminded me of a high school lunch room. It was not very updated and seemed a bit«blah», but then again, these are usually the best restaurants. The menu is pretty diverse; they have typical«mexican food» such as tacos, refried beans, quesadillas, etc. And then they have a «Peruvian section of the menu! Smile on my face. I enjoyed everything I ordered. Of course we had to order the ceviche based on recommendations and all I can say is Que Rico! It was the best I have ever had. I can’t wait to visit again so I can try more menu items. Service was good and food was great. I look forward to my next visit.
