This was quit a surprise! First our waiter was outstanding. He was very knowledgable about the menu and beer selection and was confident about all his recommendations. We started off with wings dry and they came out hot and juice and was a great match with a black and tan draft. My friends had the shrimp tacos, chicken flatbed along with the Guinness Bratwurst and all gave thumbs up. I had the Reuben sandwich which was hot and loaded with plenty of meat. My only suggestion would add a hamburger to the menu, but outside that everything was great! I highly recommend.

I’m not the biggest beer fan, to say the least, but came here with some friends one night after a basketball game. The menu selection was pretty great, and our waiter was very helpful with offering suggestions and was very attentive. Even I was able to find something I liked. The only drawback was the seating. We didn’t have anywhere to hang out coats, as our table was all bar stools, and we were a little toasty with having to wear our jackets the whole time. Pretty good place though, and I’m sure we’ll be back.

My husband and I went out on a Saturday night to get some drinks. We were really excited about their cocktail menu. We ordered two Irish Mules and a couple of shooters to start. Our waitress was friendly, but she seemed to be lacking in knowledge of the various types of beer they serve. We waited 30 minutes to get our drinks(it wasn’t even busy) and it was only then that we were informed they could not make the mules because they were out of mint. Fine, we understand supply and demand… but I just wish the shooters we ordered didn’t take a half hour to receive. We ended up spending fifty dollars on drinks(be prepared to drop at LEAST8 dollars on a pint of draft specialty beer) and waiting for over an hour for a grand total of six shots. I work in the beer industry, and I was sorely disappointed at their lack of variance in their draft menu. Although it says that their drafts change daily, I noticed a severe lack of lighter beers(blondes, IPA’s, etc.) and catered heavily to those who drink darker brews(ambers, stouts, etc.). Bottom line… service sucks. Atmosphere = much to be desired.

World of Beer is a great place. I loved going to the location in Dallas when I lived there. the problem was that they never had the beer I wanted when I visited! This was not a problem during my most recent visit in Birmingham. The beer that I(and friends) ordered were all available, so there wasn’t any going back to the menu or trying to find something else that we would like. Like others have said, seating is limited, especially in the winter. I’m guessing when summer rolls around, more folks will be open to sitting outside. Speaking of sitting, my boyfriend and I discussed the seating options. Having some bar stools are great, but we had no place to hang our coats! And we didn’t want to be «that table» that used a bar stool for all of our coats, so we ended up wearing them and staying HOT! Our server was super attentive and we didn’t have to wait long for our refills to appear on the table. Overall, a good experience. I’ll be back I’m sure.

My German Pretzel was so stale, pretty sure I tasted some freezer burn also. The staff was a bit trashy, the bartender kept yelling out some pretty inappropriate jokes /comments to other staff despite there being several young women at the bar. My server was far more concerned with text messages on his phone than he was with my service. I’ve been to WOB in Orlando and we liked it but this place was not enjoyable. Their only high point was their happy hour specials.

My second visit. Outstanding service at the bar. Very attentive and sensitive to dining needs. The chicken pesto and kale coleslaw was great. The price value was excellent. Josiah was my bartender.

PLAIN Yuck. Went here several times and not one of the visits were good. Service is sub standard and the beer selection has gradually gone down. There use to be a menu of all the selections that they carried, but that was taken away by the last time I went. So now, it is a guessing game of what do you have. Awful place. It will be no sweat if they fail. Only positive in their favor was giant Jenga and Cornhole in the quad area.

This is my third World of Beers in just a few weeks. I like the selection of beers although not as many as the Columbia, SC or West Palm Beach one. I like to drink local if a option and you get 10 or more here. The bar staff was super friendly, especially Christy. No food but you can order it from a partnering restaurant and they would bring it to you.

It’s a Saturday in Birmingham and Bama is playing, there are only about 20 people here with 4 servers and it’s about 5pm. I’ve had my fair share of fighting for the bartenders attention through college but there are only about two other people sitting at the bar with me. The bartender took a good 10 minutes to ask me if I wanted another beer but only after I had to flag him down. I’d hate to see this place busy. They’re nice people though, and of course it’s a good selection of beer.

It was a hot afternoon … and we walked by. We visited this place two nights in a row for an afternoon libation. Sorry to see the low ratings. We had nothing but really good experiences with the bar. We sat at the bar — and had two very nice bartenders who were extremely knowlegeable. I love the Ipads with all the beer types — made it fun to sample. They have a nice selection of local AL beers. Great experience!

The late night kitchen drew us in, but I had my doubts about the food. Surprisingly, it was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed the sausage pretzel sliders and the coleslaw. My only complaint was the wait. Seems like it shouldn’t take that long since the place was nowhere near crowded. Very pleased nonetheless. Obviously they have lots of choices when it comes to beer, so that’s a plus as well. And from the pics I’ve seen, you should try the pretzel.

The ONLY reason that they get anything more than one star is for the great selection of beer… and for the atmosphere(very nice patio open to enjoy.) The service is virtually non-existent. Good luck finding one of the few waitresses, and ordering at the bar can be an ordeal too. Unlike J Clyde(which I would highly recommend for a great beer… and good food) the staff knows next to nothing about most of the offerings. Started out as a good place… then just went down from there. Hope it comes back up!

My friends and I used to go here all of the time. I am going to say, we have never been impressed with the service(only Angela and she has been long gone). We tried again on St. Patricks day… it was not that busy when we got there… you only get service if you go to the bar to order and thats even a toss up. The bartenders were not doing anything(just talking to one another) … you have to get their attention. Dont order anything other than beer… becuase that throws them for a loop(yes, not everyone can have beer… that is why you have a cocktail list)… i will not be back for a lonnnng time if ever.

WOB has gone seriously downhill. They have lost staff and the current staff are ignorant of their own menu. We have two people in our party who asked for bourbon. The bar staff were snarky and overhead to say why would you order bourbon at WOB. Frankly it is none of your business and you have bourbon so just pour it. We won’t be back and that is sad cause we have spent a lot of Good times and money there.

Great beer selection! but don’t expect to see a server when you go in… it was impossible to find one probably best to go order at the bar. on friday, there was live reggae really up-ed the points for this place because places were bad service are the absolute worst… Another downer is you have to walk through the patio/smoking area before the actual bar and the only spots available were in the patio and if you can withstand the smell and second hand smoke then okay. if not probably best to try another bar in 5 pts.

Okay, we stopped here on the spur of the moment. we were out urban hiking in Birmingham, the Magic City… and we were having a good day. We went to Five Points South to check out a fountain and thanks to the website.we found«World of Beer» We went in and we were the only peeps there .it was around 3pm on a Friday afternoon. Noël and I ordered Root Beer and Tony took the«Draft of the Month».not sure what it was. but he was NOT impressed with the choice. But it was Happy Hour and only $ 3.so it was delicious !!! lol !!! We ordered a Pretzel to share with beer cheese and German mustard. and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when he came carrying this monster of a pretzel to our table. it was worth the 10 minute wait and $ 8 price tag… it was plenty large enough to share between the three of us and I would definitely do this again!!! Found out that there is a World of Beer in Chattnooga that we will definitely check out. I need another Gigantic Pretzel… now!!! it was soooo good!!!

If you enjoy beer… Visit World of Beers! Not sure why there are so many bad reviews on this place. I’ve enjoyed it on every occasion I’ve been. This includes busy weekend nights, slow afternoons etc. Service has always been on point and never a low as stated in other reviews. There’s PLENTY of beer to choose from as you would expect, and the menu is sectioned by brew style. They also serve cocktails/mixed drinks by request. Just don’t ask for anything too fancy. If you get hungry… It’s Five Points South… Walk, or check out a local food menu listing close by places that will deliver to WoB. There’s plenty of indoor/outdoor seating with activities such as Lifesize Jenga, Lifesize Connect Four and Corn hole! Depending on the night you may even catch some love music. Lots of beer, lots of fun!

«Corn-hole in one!» But then again, every point scored is the result of one attempt. A successful bar generally has several basic requirements: convenient location, reasonably priced alcohol, a gimmick, clean restrooms, and live music. The World of Beer follows all of these basics concepts but with a few wonderful advantages… Games! WOB offers several outdoor games to patrons who desire entertainment, an opportunity to meet people, and light physical exercise. Corn hole or bean bag toss is a great way to spending an evening amongst friends. The beer selection is the gimmick, and the fact that it is displayed in plain view for customers to select is a definite«+1.» I was easily able to select Shiner Bock from the cooler glass door after identifying the trademark rams head on the can. The bartender service was somewhat slow, and the prices weren’t exactly cheap. I had a good experience overall, and will likely return during warm weather. The outdoor games will be much less appealing in the cold.

I have a love, hate relationship with world of beer. I love their beer selection and that they allow dogs. I love that you can order food and have it delivered right to your table. I love that they validate parking in the deck behind them, because we all know parking is a beast in 5 Points. My frustration with them stems from the fact that they are not very customer friendly. They never have enough waitresses, in my opinion, which forces you to wade through the crowd to the bar. Sometimes they don’t have waitresses at all, which is ridiculous on a weekend. And, most of the time they don’t have their outside bar open. This past Saturday, for example, they promoted their St. Patty’s day like crazy. But we got there and all their staff was behind the inside bar. The outside bar was deserted yet again. The place was packed inside and out and patrons had to wait forever for drinks. I just don’t think this is acceptable on a holiday weekend. I will still visit, but it’s not my first choice.

If you’ve been to one World of Beer, you’ve been to all of them. Hundreds of beers, local and import, microbrew and macrobrew. Small breweries you’ve never heard of up to Budweiser and Coors Light. Bottles and drafts. And yes, they have all sorts of spirits too. Expect your bartender to know everything. Don’t know exactly what you want? Let them help.
