The only hot breakfast choice is a super flaky, rich croissant(or less rich bagel) filled with scrambled eggs and bacon or ham. They are pre-made but hot, delicious. and just under $ 6. What a hive of activity and commerce this place is!

I was told this was a popular bakery to grab and go on the way to Mammoth. It’s a cute little store with all kinds of breads and baked goods in one room and sweets and desserts in the other. They served fresh orange juice and also had a little corner for sandwiches. My friend and i got this pull apart tomato bread which was almost like a pizza but better. It was so delicious and filling. We also got a trail mix and dried fruit. That was probably the best trail mix I’ve ever had. The tomato bread, trail mix, and dried fruit lasted us all weekend and were the perfect snacks to munch on before and after we hit the slopes. On our way back home we stopped by again to take some goodies home. I’m looking forward to going back on my next trip to mammoth!

Super enjoyed my visit to Schat’s! On the way to Reno, we stopped at Schat’s, and got sandwiches. They were very good. The woman I was with bought some Bacon Cheese Bread, to take to her brother’s house. WOW, what a crowd pleaser! It was so tasty. «The bread that eats like a meal»(there, I just gave them a tag line :-) Everyone who ate it thought of something they wanted to make: grilled cheese sandwiches, and in my case, «over medium» eggs + this Bacon Cheese Bread. We planned on returning from Reno to LA via 80&5 fwy, but we decided to return via 395, JUSTSOWE could stop AGAIN at Schat’s! I have a friend in Burbank who is a bacon FIEND, so I bought an extra loaf for him. I’m sure to be a hero.

This place is busy! Think some of it is the location. Good stopping point for those from the OC. The store is crowded & superhard to move around in. 3 different lines and for someone new, it’s quite confusing where to go. Luckily I went with the fam and they knew where to go. 1 got in line for the sandwiches, my sister went looking for bread & I tried to move around with a baby which was very hard to do. I had to pass the baby off so I could go back & look around. I got the churros — which are ehh. Can’t say anything great about them. They are still here. I got a small pack of the raisin bread which was 4 piece & it cost me $ 5.60!!!. Really. I do actually enjoy it but probably not at that price but glad I got to try it. Toasted is great with all the raisins! Turkey pot pie– very thick crust & doughy, not my thing but you may like it. I liked the stuff inside so it was warm & good. Small cannoli with expression cream– delicious! I really enjoyed this the best! Pineapple gelato was decent– still no Italy though. No sample of the chili pull bread which is sad so I didn’t get 1.

Prepare to be overwhelmed when you walk into this place. Cookies, bread, jam, sandwiches, and donut/pastries everywhere! We did NOT know where to start! Probably spent a good hour exploring each section. The cheese bread is a must… Swiss pecan cookies are amazing too. We also ordered half a dozen of pastries from the fridge — everything was delicious and not overly sweet! Perfect rest/snack stop when the traveling to and from Mammoth! Parking is plentiful despite how busy they get.

If I go to Mammoth, I will definitely stop by here. This place has some awesome sandwiches. My favorite is the Mule Kick but literally all their sandwiches are amazing. The lines are super long but they get it moving. If you are in a hurry they have pre made sandwiches that you can get. Their potato salad is also amazing. The sheepherder Bread is the best. I also love the Chili Cheese bread but this was better back in the days they called it Jalapeño bread. If you have time to stop by when you are in Bishop, It’s a MUST.

So much bread!!! If you’re on your way coming or leaving Mammoth, this is the one stop spot you must make for some good sammies! IFyou’re coming in on a Sunday, expect a line to get your sandwiches and bake goods. But the staffs work fast, so the line is constantly moving. Got to go with the Hot Pastrami Sandwich. Deliciously hot on their fresh bread. It was wonderful! I had the Turkey salad sandwich with sourdough bread. I tried really hard not to eat the second half so I can save it for the ride back to LA. It wasn’t easy, but it tasted just as good as I had ordered it! Great, now I’m craving for it. Each sandwich comes with a chocolate chip cookie. Not so soft, more on the crunch/crumbling texture. I had a taste of the split peas soup. Hot and creamy, not too salty. Not exactly sure which cookie I bought from the shelf, but I opened it up yesterday and it was so good! I would definitely come back every chase I get while heading to and from Mammoth. Parking isn’t the best there. Especially on Sundays, while the weather is bad. Street parking is easy.

Best pastrami sandwich I have ever had in my life and I live in LA! No seriously, the sandwiches here are amazing! The bread is so soft the sandwhich practically eats itself. Don’t make my mistake and order a half… ORDER A WHOLE! The pull away bread(jalapeño cheese bread with bacon) that everyone says is amazing, to me was aiiight, but don’t leave without getting a sandwhich!($ 12) Also I grabbed cream cheese to dip the pull away bread in, and it was a good choice. Also grab a jar of their homemade straight from the bee hive honey!!! It’s amazing!($ 8)

All i have to say is. You have to stop by before or after heading to Mammoth! This is the OG spot. There’s another Erick Schat’s in Mammoth too. This place has always been a family tradition of mine to stop by! CHILICHEESEBREAD — Jalapenos + Cheese. Their award winning bread. PULLOVER — Cinnamon delicious goodness. Tastes like Cinnabon but better! Turkey Pot Pie — mmmm my fave. Pretty much all their breads + pastries! Carb up! @ Sandwich Bar Mule Kick — SOGOOD. Roast beef with jalapenos . Turkey Sandwich — Freshly roasted turkey. Simple sandwiches, but so yummy. *Comes with a free cookie!

This is my favorite stop on the way to and from Mammoth! Always a crowd, but a great indicator that this is the spot to be! The«MUSTS» for me would be the turkey pot pie and the fresh squeezed orange juice. But the pastries are delicious as well! Worth the stop and worth working your way through the crowd. The service is fairly efficient considering the amount of people going through the place. Parking extends around the back of the location so if you don’t find a spot when you first enter the lot, don’t fret! Just keep driving.

Stopped by on our way home from Mammoth Lakes and decided to give this place a try since we have heard great things. Not much parking, I’m assuming it’s that way on weekends or holidays. The cookies were stale, I didn’t realize, that was my bad. I thought they would be soft. The other pastries were good. They also have a bunch of different candy as well. I got the pull away pecan cake which was delicious. Definitely recommend that if you are ever in the area. For 4 cookies, coffee, pecan cake, peach ring candy and a chocolate chip croissant I paid about 27 $. There was a ton of different types of pastries and food so it will be a good pit-stop if you’re ever driving through Bishop.

I have driven through Bishop a handful of times, and this bakery has always stuck in my memory. I think the last time I swung by here was like 10 years ago, but I’ve never forgot about it! So of course this time around I made us stop here on the way to Mammoth. My friends had gotten breakfast at Looney Bean, but once they saw all the goodies, they bought more food here! We got: — Turkey pot pie(it’s in a warming case, so it was delicious and hot when I ate it) — bran muffin — fruit tart — chili cheez bread — Sergio got a sandwich, had roast beef in it, he devoured it, so it was good — fresh squeezed OJ($ 6.00 a bottle, small and expensive but it was good) So much variety here! So many things to choose from! I wanted to try and buy everything lol. It’s a must stop on the way to Mammoth up the 395 in Bishop:)

This is a must stop on your road trip to Mammoth! Everything here is delicious! Love the chocolate dipped macaroons and pull apart bread. Bacon, egg and cheese crosant is amazing! Fresh baked breads of all kinds. Huge delicious sandwiches. Parking is tough and the bakery often has long lines but it’s all worth the trouble!

I heard this place is must visit for the trip to Mammoth so I made a visit. They have so many different kinds of breads and cookies to choose from so be prepare when you walk inside there. I was on my way home from Mammoth so I didn’t really want to spend my time here getting to know all the things that they sell. I quickly grabbed some cookies and their famous chili bread and drove off. That was my biggest mistake. After getting a bite to their signature chili bread and their tastiest chocolate chip cookie I have ever had, I knew I made a mistake by buying just few of them. It’s a long drive from where I live so it’s too late to go back. When I go back there in the near future, I’ll definitely take my time and get lots of those goodies for me and my friends to share with.

Carbs all around! Don’t you just love the smell of fresh bread being made? It smells so good. Every road trip requires a stop to a small town bakery or for some amazing jerky! Luckily, this place has both! I didn’t get jerky this time, but the bread. Oh the bread! There were so many options, it was really hard to decide! I wanted it all but sadly, the bread only has a shelf life of 5 days. Dang it! Oh well, eat all the bread possible in 5 days! I got the Original Sheepherder bread & chili cheeze breadsticks. I know, not that much bread, but still it was enough to last me the whole week. The chili cheeze breadsticks were delicious and spicy! We toasted them in the toaster oven & it was an awesome idea because they were crispy on the outside & soft/fluffy on the inside. The cheese and mini specs of peppers where perfect! The Sheepherder bread smelled so good & was fluffy & tasty. All that bread was amazing! The bakery is fairly large & has outside seating for peeps to enjoy their sandwiches & bread! It is definately a must stop bakery on the way home or onward to Mammoth! Note: parking is a bit tight, but there is plenty of street parking!

You know you are stepping into a real treat when you walk into Erick Schat’s Bakkery and there are plenty of people and lines sprawled throughout the store. Award ribbons adjacent to different breads and pastries let you know that they are carrying high-quality, top-notch products. The sheepherder’s bread is their boast of glory and is perfect for bringing home to make hearty sandwiches. The bacon chili cheese bread also caught my attention. I found it to have a slight spicy kick! The cheese danishes are flaky and delicious. The donuts are good but was not as extraordinary as everything else to me. Samples are available throughout the bakery. I got to sample some pastries that were very delicious and doughy. In addition, I unexpectedly really enjoyed their honey teriyaki beef jerky. This is my favorite beef jerky of all times. It was flavorful and slightly tender. It was definitely a great snack on the road. My boyfriend was more a fan of the whiskey beef jerky but I prefer my jerky to have a slightly sweeter taste, instead of a smokier taste. This place is definitely worth stopping by to visit, especially if you’re on a long road trip. Being on an 8-hour road trip, this was a great spot to look forward to while we were on the road. Good eats, treats, and clean restrooms! If you find yourself yearning for their goods, you can also place orders and they will ship it to your home!

Who doesn’t know this famous bakery? They are on Wikipedia. How cool is that. It is known for a unique bread, called Original Sheepherder’s Bread. We always stopped in Bishop to fill up gas so we stopped here too for some croissant of course :) My husband bought a cheese croissant and the strawberry & cheese croissant for me. And a mocha cannoli. And some for mom too. As always the croissant was delicious! Very cheesey & the croissant dough was perfect. I could eat those yummy nonstop. Because we didn’t eat the cannoli on the way so when we arrived, the cannoli was kinda fell apart. When we ate it, it was just way too sweet for us. My mom in law loved the bread and the croissant too. On our way back home, we stopped here again. And it was on Sunday and of course this place more packed. Difficult to find a spot. Parking lot a limited and very tight. People come and go. Even there was a lady stood up there to keep a spot! Unbelievable. We bought same cheese croissants and a bacon chili cheese bread. The bread was a bomb! This place has tons of choices, bread, pastries, sweets & sandwich even salad. You can’t take pictures inside though. I don’t know why but just respect what they asked would be nice. This bakery is absolutely for a bread nuts(like my husband), pastry freaks(like me), cookie monsters, cake nuts, sweet freaks. They got it all!

Raymond approved! Cherry. I screwed up though. I didn’t get the chili cheese bread or the garlic cheese bread. :( So heading Southbound on US395/Main Street, it is on the right hand side of the street… and that is the easier turn to make, as their parking lot is pretty small but there does seem to be a spot or two when you go in. I went on a Saturday afternoon around noon and there were 3 or 4 spots available. Went inside, saw the NOPICTURES allowed, and I was so sad :(REALLYSAD. And it just so happens that I didn’t have time in Tahoe to research, plus my phone could not get signal in Bishop(idk why)… but I had NO idea what to get… so I grabbed two things and prayed. The original sheephearder bread– something that you don’t really have outside. It’s like a really soft version of white and… ugh I wanna say sourdough but it’s not really sourdough. it’s decent enough to eat, but great if you have tomatoes, lettuce, and cheese in the middle. It’s dry so it will make you thirsty!(3⁄5) Apple strudel– had no price. Was sad. Do not like the fact there was no price visible. :(It was $ 7.49 which is kinda expensive for that small of a pie but it was goooood. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and made great.(4.5÷5) It’s PACKED and long lines for hot sandwiches. The right side of the store is all bakery(cookies, macarons, pies) and the left side is bread and sandwiches. It will be packed so try to get here early! I wanna cry now. I should have researched. When will I ever be in Bishop, California again? :(((((((((
