I was in town to visit the grave of my Big Brother(1yr). I wanted to pick up a growlers. Met a hometowner(Rochester, MM) who was also a deadhead. Had a great conversation and a great toast. Take care of my Brother. Thanks.

I always get a headache from the beer here and have heard that from a few other people as well. The root beer is really good though, actually and I have never mixed ordering that as a replacement. If it’s not too packed and you’re able to get in, that is!

I was tempted to give 4 stars based on the lack of beer-soaking snacks, but the beers were so good I just couldn’t do it. I started with a flight of non-IPA beers(I can’t seem to get on the über-hops bandwagon) which ranged from wheat to porter. There wasn’t a single pour I didn’t like! However, the porter was a huge win and I ended up ordering a full pint. In all, I spent almost 2 hours at the tasting room just making conversation with the bartenders and some strangers, and had a very nice time. I really wish they would get a little oven to make some nachos or pretzels, or even a popcorn machine, so folks can hang around a little longer.

I honestly went back and forth whether to give this place four or five stars. Others have described its shortcomings-small, loud, sometimes not-great table service but other than the last one, I can’t bring myself to ding them for things out of their control. Sure it is small and loud, but that means there are quite a few people enjoying themselves, and that is a good thing, I think. In my case I am a loud talker anyway, so it works for me. They have music! Real, live, music! It makes the place crazy loud but that makes it even more fun, in my estimation. There is one band that puts 8 – 9 people on the stage that includes a horn section. Don’t worry about how loud he is(section of one…) as he could play in a library and not get shushed. I don’t know their name but they seem to be there when I show up so I call them the band. Laughing Sun now has an interesting mug club. It is $ 100 a year and all it gets you is a buck off your first beer, a few extra ounces of beer in your special mug, which you don’t get to keep, and an invasion to a few select mug club events. Call me crazy, but I joined even knowing I probably won’t recoup that C note. Sometimes a person has to go with their gut when writing reviews and finding a place to hang. Laughing Sun really only offers honest beers in a small place with great music; and that does deserve 5 stars.

Laughing Sun is Bismarck’s first & only brew pub. I love spending time on their patio during the summer. Laughing Sun is one of the few places in town that frequently has live music. Great atmosphere!

In the eyes of a Home Brewer they have the passion and a great brew. They have around eight brews on tap. That is about right for any person to find what they like. At more it would make it rough to get off the bar stool. Thumbs up and see you on the next go around.

This is a great little brewery in downtown Bismarck, plenty of street parking and close to a couple parking garages. Smaller tap selection, probably about 8 total and also have homemade root beer and cream soda on tap. The bar seating is small but they have plenty of tables along the wall, you probably will end up sharing a table with other people but a great way to meet new people. They don’t serve food here so it’s a good idea to eat before coming here, fireflour pizza is next door so you can call them and order a pizza, once finished they will deliver it next door. I think my favorite beers on tap are sinister pear, it’s a Belgian golden strong ale it definitely packs a punch. Second favorite is the apricot wheat, lite beer with a great flavor of apricot. They have one called Java black ale and they use cold pressed dogwood coffee from fireflour. Have not tried it yet but it’s on the must have list. They also fill growlers for a reasonable price so definitely grab one and take some beer home. I like the fact I’m about two blocks away so I’ll become a regular.

Roadtripper passing through Bismarck and I’m sure happy I stopped here. Beer is amazing, Sultan’s Revenge is a top notch IPA. One of my favorites. Bartenders were incredibly nice and even gave us a free sample. Not sure what his name is, but the bald bartender with a beard was one of the nicest people I’ve met. There are a bunch of restaurants that deliver to the brewery as well. The food we ordered was great. Wish I could give this place 6 stars!

The place is easy to find in downtown area. Street parking. They have a very limited selection of 6 – 8 beers. If you’re a picky brewery person this might not be your favorite place. Server was very friendly in recommending and allowing me to sample beer before settling on one. No food(not even the free popcorn I got accustomed too). They have a wide selection of board games to play at the tables. There website has a live music schedule– I can’t imagine how that would be. The place is pretty small to begin with. They have indoor and outdoor seating

Chill place… awkward music on this night. Good service. Limited beer selection. If you’re from a big city, you’re not going to like lack of options, but you may find a beer you can appreciate. Outdoor area if weather is nice too. Jessica was cool and brought samples. This place reminds me of downtown Portland… interesting characters and a place where everyone knows everyone. A cool spot to just observe. Remember this is a smaller town. But get some food and wander over for a few beers.

pretty cool little brewery with some outdoor seating, live entertainment, and local art. i enjoyed all their ipa’s and was tempted by the bbq food cart outside the door. loses points on noise level, cleanliness, and service. i couldn’t hear the person sitting next to me, the tables we sat at(moved to accommodate more people) were dirty and never got bussed, and every time we wanted a beer we had to go to the bar.

This is my first review on Unilocal.Of the probably hundreds of places I’ve been to Laughing Sun is the spot that motivated me to post this. This place is the real deal. I was here last night and bought the 5 Beer Flight. Every beer was unique and delicious. About half way through the sampler the owner came over with some pre-beer beer for me to sample from the brewery. It was definitely a unique flavor. Warm, sweet and delicious. It will turn into some probably incredible maple stout that they’re experimenting with in the tanks about 9 feet from where I’m sitting now. Today I’m enjoying the Whippin Post Pale Ale and it seriously might be one of my favorite beers I’ve had in a long, long time. Unfortunately I’m only in town for a couple days and probably won’t be back for a long time either. Hopefully next time I’m back in town these guys become something and I’ll be buying six packs back home in California. If you are in Bismarck and enjoy delicious beer you HAVE to come to Laughing Sun. Stop reading my review and stop by for a beer. Right. Now.

Great place to gather with some co-workers for a drink after work. Plus, you can order pizza from the place next door and have it delivered to your table while you drink. They are REALLY knowledgable about their beer and are more than willing to give you an education. Please take this education BEFORE you get drinking, as you may feel hightened sense of knowledge later on and start babbling at your table about how much YOU know… lets be real, you didn’t know until today, and you don’t really know, you’re just regirgitating a few keys words the bartender taught you… But if you don’t drink too heavliy, you will go home with some great knowledge, just dont let it go to your head.
