Phenomenal food, atmosphere and people. The MUSTPLACE for all, especially if new to town or with guests coming in. Awesome every time! New LOCATIONISOFFTHECHARTS!

Meh– this is a review of the NEW Leftys — so rather than Long John Silvers, this is a poorly re-worked Asian pagoda restaurant. So for the big opening people were waiting on old torn chairs. Nothing new in the menu — food came lukewarm. Much ado about nothing. I honestly think this décor is worse than the old restaurant– at least you didn’t expect much at the old place. Get some new items on the menu ! Won’t take long before people realize they have been duped! I was really hoping this would be awesome. Same level of disappointment as Mellow Mushroom– should be awesome but something always sucks.

haven’t been there in several years, but it was a great place. What can you do with the ambiance when you are stuck with the shell of a long john silvers but they make up for it with their food, good luck folks. Hope to come back to sample it.

Stopped by for the first time today I ordered South of the border burger with onion rings. The burger was just okay the onion ring was the better of the two. It was a bit pricey for the size. I most likely will give it another try once they finish their new location. I gave it 4 stars but it’s is about 3 ½ stars at the best but I plan on giving it another shot.

Probably my favorite restaurant in Blacksburg. The burgers are awesome, onion rings are fantastic, and the salads are all amazing! Some of my favorite things on the menu have been the classic burger, cashew chicken sandwich, and the rightys salad(the homemade dressing is to die for). The service is always great, very knowledgeable and prompt. Never had a bad meal here. They constantly change their specials to keep things fresh and seasonal. Great atmosphere, awesome food, and not too expensive.

Love Lefty’s! Great food and service, often can be a bit crowded, so I am excited they are moving into a larger space.

Doug M. of Lefty’s Main Street Grille. Thank you for your response. Personal preference for how we want our food prepared is not outside of reason. My husband is allergic to mushrooms and does not eat them. The mushroom and special sauce for the potato pancake would not have salvaged it. It was not what we expected. Potato pancakes mean different things to different people like what is a fried egg. You are correct in that we should have reported it to the server. A fried egg is a fried egg. in the future at other establishments, we will purposely ask what is meant by a fried egg. You criticized our«personal preference» for a meal we paid for and left the server a tip? Enjoy your new location because you have assured that we will never step foot inside it. Looking for a nonchain to patronize. Really done with this place this time. 1. Filth and disgusting grime made our stomachs turn before our food came. The place was packed which would lead me to believe they do a good business. Hire a professional cleaning contractor to clean this dump up. The floor and the kitchen area are in really bad shape. The bathrooms are pitiful. The staff obviously either can’t do it or just don’t care. 2. The food. Potato pancake was a strange gelatinous mess. No flavor and just a mess. Hubs covered it with napkin. No hope. Fried egg, bacon, cheddar sandwich with pesto mayo. Get mayo on side. That concoction is not good. The«fried» egg is really fried white only. My child found out when a big runny yolk squished into her lap. I never serve my child raw eggs. We would not have ordered it if the menu indicated uncooked yolk. That ruined the sandwich from then on. Even after cutting that part out, the cheddar was bland and bacon not good. The side of potatoes and chocolate milk were the only saving graces of our meals. $ 38.00(with 2 drinks and a water) for 3 plates of barely edible food we left most of on the plate. This brunch outing was a fail.

Unfortunately had a really poor experience with their service. Called at 11:25 to make a brunch order and they told us that they stopped serving brunch at 11:30 and wouldn’t take our order. Totally understand when a kitchen turns over, but not taking our order before the time left us all wishing for a bit more hospitality.

The food was fine, but the service was lacking. They use a system where your order with the kitchen is based in when you were seated, but you don’t know that up front and they didn’t come back to us for 20 minutes after giving us water. No checking for refills, no taking our order, no checking to see if we needed anything. They were busy, but not so swamped that they couldn’t have checked on us.

The service was great by Allison! And I’ve heard great things about lefty’s, so I’m going to give it another try; but I wasn’t a huge fan. Their salad is apparently amazing. Definitely trying again for their hyped Sunday brunch, but was not pleased with my visit this afternoon.

Places like this are what maintains Blacksburg’s local feel — lunch/dinner specials, rotating beer taps, a quirky but fun left-handed-centric décor, and the owner comes in every weekend to cook breakfasts because that’s simply what he enjoys doing. The owner, a good aquantaince of mine, says he will dream up crazy concoctions of food and pitch them to the chefs to try to pull off — this results in some amazing meals you won’t typically find on a menu. There are some true hidden gems on the menu if you like to get adventurous such as the cyclops(bacon pancake with an overeasy egg cooked into the center) and the potatoes pancakes are my two favorite breakfast items. I had the best/most properly cooked duck of my life. Only reason for a four, and it pains me to say, is that sometimes when its really busy the food isn’t quite as consistent as when you go at an off hour(for instance, burger doneness). I think the same can be said at many restaurants, however.

Came here a day after my wisdom teeth removal surgery, so all I could eat were mash potatoes and soup. We explained to the waiter my condition and he related to his own wisdom teeth surgery awhile ago and initiated more small talk with us. He was also very accommodating with my order, since he knew I was probably really hungry from not being able to eat much and had my soup and mashed potatoes come out before anyone else’s orders! I ordered the squash soup that came with wild rice and some other vegetables, which tasted slightly spicy and tangy! The rice was delicious even though I wasn’t able to savor much of it through chewing. The mashed potatoes were my favorite, because I typically would eat them with gravy but it was so well-made with small chunks of potatoes and well-seasoned that it really didn’t need gravy after all! Atmosphere was sort of dark, with a huge reliance on windows for lighting(we arrived in the early evening). The interior design included a lot of wood, curtains, and vintage framing so it had a nice«home-y» feeling! Will definitely come back for more food since I jealously eyed the various dishes brought out to other people though!

When visiting Blacksburg, I wanted to eat at a local place versus the abundance of chain restaurants that pop up. I selected Lefty’s based on several positive reviews and its proximity to where I was staying. The food we ate was delicious and I believe locally sourced. It came pretty quickly and was reasonably priced as well. My problem with this place is the atmosphere. It’s a mixture of boring and awkward. The place is tiny and I felt like I was eating in someone’s house that I wasnt invited to. The décor is outdated and the waiters seem to be having a conversation right on top of you(why are they holding lengthy conversations anyways?) I would be interested in trying their brunch outside if the weather was nice… but then again brunch on a busy street is not ideal.

Well i took my second trip to lefty’s in their old location. Staff ifs very friendly, beer list ok, menu looks adequate. However the visit slowly sank into utter disappointment. I got the duck and corn wonton app’s to start and they were tough but not crunchy, tasted like cream cheese(duck? Not sure where and in what way) The wonton had a sweet drizzle on top that did not marry with the wonton. Entrée, I went light, with chili and a mixed salad. These were both ok. Bread was good. However the chili came about 30 mins after ordering, but it still beat the salads by 5 mins… And it was about 82 inside the restaurant. My daughter asked for jelly to complete a memorial meal to her recently deceased grand father. This was gladly provided, yet the jelly was in a plastic tub with butter below it and all of it was floating in a Centimeter of liquid butter. Who knows how long that had been sitting out. We took a dessert to go. I shouldn’t, but did. It was called pecan praline bread pudding. UNIQUELY/GLOBALLY the absolute worst bread pudding i have ever had. Before this i would have told you you couldn’t mess up bread pudding, but they did. It was bread croutons with brown sugar and pecans all separate in the container.(See pic). I actually threw it away. Dry stale bread with sugar on top. Unbelievable. Since it is a 3 min walk from our place in Blacksburg, i am disappointed at this execution. I hope my third trip allows me to make at least 3 stars. I would love to frequent this restaurant. Yet, Its hard to be this bad at the restaurant business… right? I will give them another shot and let you know how it goes

You must try the specialty breakfasts at Lefty’s. Their weekend breakfast and brunch is amazing! The best part is their homemade breads and desserts. There’s not a single thing in the world that I would not try from this restaurant. It is that good. Kudos to the chefs! Get there early on the weekend, as there may be a wait. However, it is well worth that wait.

By far the best place to dine in Blacksburg. Always unique specials, a great regular menu and friendly faces. I’ve never had a bad meal there and generally try something new each time! Definitely a Blacksburg treat!

This place was really really good. I had the leftie burger which contained some kind of white cheese and red onions on sour dough bread. OMG, I wish i lived in North Carolina because I would literally eat here every day. The place is surprisingly affordable at 8 $ for a gourmet burger and fries. They change up the desert menu frequently so get in there when they have something good.

Been a number of years since my son and I went to Lefty’s for dinner. But, I want to thank Lefty’s for being the butt of our jokes ever since we went there, while my son was in college. We always get a laugh when one of us suggests we go back. The service at that time was excruciatingly slow. First, it took forever to get a waitress to our table, and then another long wait for our beers. After sitting for what seemed like eons more, our food finally came out, I had salmon, which was overcooked and tasted gamy. My son’s beef was not remarkable either. We had a very difficult time getting the attention of our waitress, even when our beer glasses were empty, and it took forever to pay our bill. I had a very long trip ahead of me, returning to the DC area, and was not in the mood for a long wait at an average-at-best restaurant.

Arrived for lunch with some great reviews from friends. Their lunch menu is apparently a little smaller than the dinner, so if you want the full experience I may suggest waiting until dinnertime! As someone who LOVES sourdough bread over the bland, boring white bread, Lefty’s really hit the spot for me. I ordered the Lefty’s burger, which came out on sourdough over the conventional burger buns. At first I was a little thrown off, but as I took that first bite my worries all went away. It was cooked exactly how I had ordered and tasted great with the perfect combination of veggies, cheese, and a juicy patty. I think the fact that it is a little farther than the rest of Main St’s food offerings is a little off-putting for people to want to consider going to Lefty’s for a meal, but I encourage anyone that doesn’t mind taking a few extra minutes to drive away from the main downtown area to come take a seat here! Their food is definitely worth it, and I am really glad that I got a chance to eat here before I graduated!

Unique! I am never disappointed with Leftys. It is a little frustrating when there’s an hour long wait and I really want leftys, but that’s to be expected because it is such a small restaurant. If you go on a game day weekend for lunch expect a crowd! They also stop serving breakfast pretty early, but the lunch options are too good to pass up. The restaurant is so cozy and the service is always so friendly! I’ve never had a problem here. Now on to the food, obviously the best part. Make sure you check out the specials before you order off the menu. They always sound delicious and unique! I can’t talk about one specific dish being my favorite because I try and order new dishes every time I come! My mom absolutely loves the Turkey Reuben.(My parents ask to come to leftys every time they visit, I’m never opposed to a free leftys trip) I’ve tried it and I understand why she loves it. The burgers are awesome too, they are served on a thin slice of bread rather than a bun which I love because it is the perfect amount of bread for the piece of meat. I’ve gotten 2 of the salads as well. The Cobb salad has the best dressing ever. I was a little hesitant to order it at first because Cobb salads can be pretty plain, but this dressing that came in it deserves some sort of award. We also tried the nachos last time! The chips were perfect nachos chips that didn’t fall apart or get soggy. However don’t get the«super nachos» if you’re not a huge fan of sweet chili. Even if you’re a righty you should give it a chance. And remember to check the blackboard for some specials.

Local chef with his own flair on everything they serve. Something for everyone, even vegetarians. Burgers, salads, sandwiches, and main meals like pork chops and steak. Haven’t had anything I wouldn’t recommend here. I go for lunch. Small selection of microbrew beer and wine available. If weather is good, can sit outside.
