Got an event catered by them and it was perfect. More than enough food and people could mix and match sandwiches if they were still hungry. Easy way to satisfy a crowd.

Visited this place after playing a baseball game at VT. Based on the reviews thought we were going to be in for a treat. Perhaps my expectations were too high or the reviews who rated this place 4 stars don’t know what a decent sandwich looks like. Mayonnaise was not Hellmanns, cold cuts were not Boars Head, bread was stale. Should have known better when we opened door staff were huddled together like deer in headlights and place was empty.

Simple but delicious. Try your favorite sub with nachos and sweet tea. Hamid runs a fantastic business and we miss it greatly since moving away.

This was a staple when I was in college at VT. You order by number after looking at the menu. I think most people order the same number or the special every time. The bread is fantastic(even the NYC«it’s the water that makes it better» bread snob types love it) the toppings are fresh and expansive, and frankly, you can get pretty much whatever you want on a sandwich.(Dagwood goes here occasionally) Seriously though, they have fantastic sandwiches. And they’re amazingly inexpensive for what you get. I used to take my Dad here when he would come visit me in college. I think he came more often just to get a sammich. The décor is old and dated, but that just makes it better. Overall, highly recommended!

Still amazing after all these years. Hands-down the best sandwiches I have ever had anywhere. And freaky fast, to steal one of the chain joint’s catchphrase. I used to work right across the street in Shanks Hall during grad school and eat here 2 – 3 times a week. I recently went back for a football game at Virginia Tech and parked on the other side of Sub Station II at the church. On the hunt for lunch, I became super excited when I realized I’d be walking right by my favorite old sandwich place. You order by number here, and I always get #10: the turkey sandwich. Usually on wheat or rye and usually a regular, but I needed football energy, so I got a large on rye(a double decker sandwich)! The toppings aren’t as robust or healthful as somewhere like Subway, but you’ve got all the standards that make it just right. I get onions, lettuce, oil, oregano, jalapenos and a pickle on the side. MmmmMM! The same old ladies who used to make my sandwich were still working there when I went back. I guess because it was a weekend the Asian guy who owns the place was off. But this experienced team consistently slices the meat and cheese so perfectly thin(but you get plenty, it’s just the individual slices that are thin) that the entire sandwich just seems to melt in your mouth. Amazeballs. 10 out of 10. Go Hokies.

This is the best sub shop we have! Now, I am still a fan of the New York Style sub shop(not just the one’s in NY; my favorite one is in Boulder, CO), but you simply can’t go wrong with fresh bread and simply affordable sandwiches. This is a made fresh to order place and is by far, the best in town! Tucked on a side street, this one is worth searching out.

I grew up in this town. Have moved away, far away. I find myself craving a #5 sub at the most random moments. Whenever I visit I always come to sub station II. You just can’t beat it. Subway cannot compare.

Really good subs. The menu is super easy to read and the meat is fresh and amazing! I can’t think of anything bad to say about Sub Station. It’s not expensive and I adore the pickles. I love it so much!

I used to love Jimmy John’s. Then $ 5 foot longs at Subway got my business. Nowadays, Sub Station gets my money each and every time I need my sub-sandwich fix. The inside, and outside, of this place is offbeat; not as warm-welcoming as the more well-known franchised sub-shops in the area. The arrangement inside is also very odd indeed. I often wonder what occupied the building before Sub Station moved in. Nevertheless, at lunchtime the place gets extremely busy. I always order the #13(Salami, Cheese, Pepperoni and Ham) all-the-way with banana peppers. The meats are freshly sliced when ordered and the amount of meat they give you is quite generous. The bread is great too; there is the perfect amount of chew to it. There is a certain consistency in the quality in which the sandwiches are prepared, and they rarely ever stray from it.

One of my favorite places to get a sub in Blacksburg. For me it’s something about the bread. IMHO it’s much better than Subway, Jimmy John’s or Quizno’s. My favorite is the #13. A bit of a calorie bomb, but it’s worth it.

It’s a great place to pick up a basic sub. Don’t expect anything too exotic, although there is a good selection of meats, including capicola. The line gets long but the service is quick. Not a huge fan of their reuben, but everything else I’ve gotten there(generally the meatball subs or whatever the one with capicola and peperoni is called) has been great.

We stopped by here for a quick sandwich on a cold winter day. My dining partner wanted to go to Subway, but I insisted on coming here because I wanted to eat local. I decided to do a calorie splurge and have a toasty reuben sandwich. A Reuben sandwich is a grilled sandwich consisting of rye bread, corned beef, sauerkraut, cheese, and russian dressing. It should be served hot and crunchy, with the cheese melted into the sauerkraut. This unfortunate sandwich started out well, with freshly-sliced corned beef… but, once it was assembled(minus the russian dressing), it was put into a microwave and zapped: p Note to Substation II: A microwave doesn’t grill anything. The sandwich came out soft, soggy, and cold in the middle. A highly unpleasant experience. Maybe it takes too long to grill a sandwich in a place like this? If so, it shouldn’t be listed on the menu as a reuben.

Best quick sandwich shop in Blacksburg — and we’ve got several. Locally owned and operated, the menu’s simple and easy to order — just look on the board, pick a number, and enjoy. Everything’s fresh, and tastes like it. There’s a reason this place often has a line out the door during the lunch rush, and it’s not because of the bright lights, shiny floors and flat screen TVs. In fact, you won’t even find all that here — it’s a tired looking building and interior, but I promise the sandwiches are exactly the opposite.

Good sandwiches with fresh ingredients. People are friendly and they cut the meats and cheese right in front of you. It’s nothing terribly spectacular but it’s considerably better than subway for me.

Best meatball sub ever, EVER. Also, I’m a fan of the Pastrami on Rye, the Reuben, and the presence of non Subway meats. You know how Subway says they have options, but really they don’t… you just end up with meat you can barely detect covered by salad surrounded by too much bread. At Sub Station, it’s all about the meat. Show me some meat!
