The bar is a nice, it feels like a getaway and I love that it’s so close to downtown. We stopped by for a drink last weekend and it’s obvious they are off to a slow start. The bar wasn’t stocked only a few beer options and only well drinks with limited mixers. We had some clams and shrimp which were decent, nothing spectacular. They were just setting up the bar down on the beach. I love that this is here and am excited to see what they do with it. The live music is a plus and the atmosphere could be great. Although… $ 7 for parking is too much. Perhaps they could waive the parking if you spend a certain amount at the bar? Not sure how to get around this but people aren’t going to want to go for a beer or two if they have to pay so much to park!

Super nice staff and people. Love their Piña Coladas. Wish there was a way for them to keep the bees away but otherwise excellent

Woah, put on your people watching shades before going here. You will see some very interesting folks. Some of them may even be employees. Below average margaritas. Okay beer selection. The service left a lot to be desired. Not very attentive. The tortilla chips are flour and not corn– for any with gluten allergies. I was definitely disappointed, it also did not say that on the menu, so we were surprised. My husband says the oysters were delicious. Cool location, but the bar is blocked by trees so you can’t even see the water. It sounded like there was a beach bar as well, so go wander around for that one! We did watch a really awkward situation between an angry costumer and the bartenders. It made us quite uncomfortable as everyone was yelling in our ears. Maybe if they had bought us a beer, we would have enjoyed our visit a bit more!

Something about being on the water. Something about being at the bar while your shoes are over by your chair. It’s not everyplace that can pull off that oasis like quality of blotting out Industrial places and make you focus on the sand and sea. My most recent trip had swimming closed, and the on the beach portion was shuttered, but even just hanging out on their back porch was a nice tonic. Don’t go for a taco and a beer(and by the by, Tecate has it all over Carona). Go to enjoy those things in an adirondack chair, in the breeze, with your toes in the sand. The stupid grin will appear before you know it.

I love the bar, I love the space, I love the abundance of adirondack/beach chairs, the bonfire and the sand under my feet. But PLEASE for the love of God, if you *insist* on having live music, get a decent band! The entire beach and sunset experience was ruined when my ears were caused to bleed by the pathetic excuse for«music.» Live music is not always necessary! Some nice background tunes can be a much better alternative, especially when you’re surrounded by such natural beauty.

I love a nice beach. When I first moved to Buffalo some of my new Buffalonian friends were like«yeah, this summer we can go to the beach!» I wondered what they were smokin’ since we aren’t exactly in proximity of any beaches. At least in the traditional sense. But enter Woodlawn Beach(and a few others) that are at the shores of Lake Erie. Surprisingly, these beaches have pretty lovely sand and a lake that has boats and waves. Seems legit. So I do enjoy these ‘beaches’ but I think there could always be something more… And that something more happens to be Woody’s! What an awesome hideaway. One minute you’re in industrial looking South Buffalo, the next you’re at a tiki bar on a beach! It’s nutty. They have comfy adirondack chairs, a volleyball net and A BONFIRE?! I freaking love bonfires. They even light it with this crazy blowtorch thing. Makes me a little nervous, but it’s exciting to watch. This spot will only become more and more popular. It’s a neat place to relax, eat and drink while taking in amazing views of the lake and the wind turbines.

Along with half of Buffalo, I stopped down to Woodlawn Beach and bummed around Woody’s Beach Club & Taqueria. The place has gotten a lot of press recently so I followed the masses, stopped down, and checked it out for myself. The Food: To spice things up, literally and figuratively, I ordered Taco el Pastor — $ 7.50. Three tacos featured marinated pork butt, pineapple, queso fresco, and a serious amount of hot sauce(sriracha maybe). I like my food hot but the taco maker got a little overzealous when saucing these things. Not being a Pastor expert, I was expecting the pork to be stewed and slow cooked but I was incorrect. The marinated pork chunks were grilled and then diced up. The pork had a nice grilled crust and the pieces were cut small enough for equal distribution. The sweetness of the pineapple cut some of the heat from the hot sauce and was a nice accompaniment. The tacos were pretty good, had some minor flaws, but its beach food. I figured the tacos weren’t going to be enough to keep myself and the lady full so I ordered some value on the menu and went with two hotdogs for $ 5. Nicely grilled Sahlen’s hotdogs on Costanzo rolls — not much else to say. I was a little surprised /impressed they were serving dogs on Costanzo rolls. They serve beer, mix drinks, frozen drinks, and sodas. So along with your grub you can wash it down with your favorite beverage in a can. They accept credit cards which is always a bonus in my book. It was a nice day and the beach was packed. I asked the guy grilling the proteins if it was normally mobbed on the weekend. He informed me that the 4th of July seemed like an outlier and there are usually more chairs to lounge on. I will be back for sure. It is a lot closer then Sunset and a lot easier to get too compared to going over the border to Canadian. The sand was pretty nice but the water was a little gross — typical Blue Collar Buffalo Beach

As a former Lawng Guyland gal and lover of beachy vacations I was so very impressed with the setting of this delightful new place. When walking from the parking lot and through the trees I felt like I was entering paradise(paradise in Buffalo, that is) upon seeing my first glimpse of watery blueness! This beautiful strip of Woodlawn Beach has been transformed to a little bit of Mexico. Volleyball net: Yes… Brightly colored umbrellas and chairs: Yes… A fire-pit: Yes… Tacos, nachos, margaritas and beer SERVEDRIGHTONTHEBEACH: YES!!! There’s burgers and hot dogs on the(quite complete) menu… but why would anyone go to «Mexico» and not eat nachos or tacos? I tried a whole bunch of ‘em. I sampled nachos with guacamole, pico de gallo, and«loaded ones». The tortilla chips are very, very different… and to be perfectly honest, I didn’t really like ‘em. They were too greasy, not salty enough, and tasted too much like that weird«bowl» that taco salads often come in… but broken into small pieces. The guacamole was so-so. It could have used more chunks, more(red!!) onion, some tomato, and a bit of spice. Very, very bland. The pico de gallo while nice and fresh, also lacked zip. Spice things up people! Make friends with jalapenos. The loaded nachos were just plain weird(IMHO). I don’t know why, but they tasted like corned beef hash. Very, very strange! The tacos, however, were AMAZING!!! There are pork ones, and chicken ones, and steak ones, and fish(mahi mahi) ones and each was MOREDELICIOUS than the others! The meat was cooked perfectly. They were topped with yummy queso fresco. And each was filled with different things like fresh cilantro in the chicken taco and fresh mango in the fish one. There were different(HOMEMADE!!) sauces presented for each kind, but me being me, I played around mixing all the types on all of the tacos like a kindergartner at a sundae bar. Fun and yummy! And, last but(certainly) not least, the tortillas that those WONDERFULTACOS were placed in were the best I’ve ever had. Fresh white corn tortillas lightly blackened on a grill for the perfect hint of char on the bottom. MUYDELICIOSO!

Just when I thought no good beaches existed near Buffalo, I come to Woodlawn and I am amazed. Coming here with a group of Unilocalers, made the experience at Woodlawn even more fun. Looking back to my previous experiences, which were at Angola and Beaver Island beaches. All I have to say is «psh, psh, psh», they are nothing compared to this. Woodlawn is where it’s at. I didn’t get a chance to try their drinks or tacos, but I did try the nacho samples they gave us. I thought it was good, there was one with guacamole, another with beans/beef/cheese, and another with mild salsa. I got the strawberry shortcake ice cream as well, the regular on a stick one. Ahhh, as good as it gets I was happy that it wasn’t too expensive since it was being sold at the beach. I loved the the bright chairs that were sat out where people can sit around the bonfire, and also look at the water while the sun sets. Oh what a beautiful day, it turned out to be. Coming here was like going on a vacation that I did not want to end. Definitely planning on coming back again, and with my family. Its a very relaxing, and laid back area where everyone can come and enjoy their stay. P. S. every wednesday evening the drumming group from Hamburg comes here to drum and filter ears with great sounds. They were definitely amazing.

Went to Woody’s on Saturday night after some mixed up plans left us looking for something to do. We had a couple of drinks, walked the beach, sat by the fire pit, and watched the sunset. This place has a very different, beach shack atmosphere. Totally laid back, and a great place to just sit and take in the sand and breeze. We’re looking forward to going back and having dinner, the fish and shrimp tacos in particular, sometime soon.

Yes please! Like Derrick C. predicted, Woody’s has it’s liquor license and has transformed a part of Woodlawn beach into a little Mexican oasis. Brightly colored plastic chairs and umbrellas comb the part of beach that Woody’s has sectioned off. Large enough to fit a party of fifty or more, this place is destined to be a summer hangout. Pacifico served with lime wedges in plastic cups along with a slew of good bar food make this joint even better. Oh, and at nighttime? The good folks throw us all a bonfire to watch blaze before heading home from our mini-vacation.

They currently only serve burgers/hot dogs but next weekend, they’ll be getting their liquor license and opening up the taqueria then so should blow up big then. Guess I’ll have to go back to update this.
