Best family hang out spot and neighborhood joint. Staff that has been there from 10 to 30 years, great burgers and sandwiches, and the bar has craft beers and top shelf bourbons. We will miss it so much. Thank you for all the wonderful memories, friends at Hogans!

There was a very nice article in the newspaper today about this restaurant with the author stating that it will be greatly missed. The author(one of my favorites actually and someone who I do remember seeing at the restaurant as a teen) described so many of the wonderful experiences that he had here. Like the author, for a long time, I used to go here frequently. The experience for me varied widely from good to average to very poor with no apparent reason for the variation. One of my biggest problems was similar to what was mentioned by another reviewer on another review site. There, that reviewer(who ended up still giving the restaurant a 5⁄5 rating) mentioned that he and his family were openly«seated at the back» as they didn’t seem to fit the«look» of the rest of the clientele. For a few years, that happened to us quite a few times and it was fairly obvious as there would be a group of tables with people and then us alone in the back. Especially as a younger boy it bothered me a lot as we tended to be friendly to everyone there. Once we asked about it as the restaurant was empty, and the server stammered and stuttered and we were given a new table. We would be frustrated and not go for awhile and then eventually give in and go back and actually have a decent experience. So even though it was disappointing for this to happen, it didn’t happen all the time. Who knows why it happened either, and(as very, very odd as it seemed), maybe there was some logical reason. In fact, sometimes(on our more recent visits) we were seated right in the front too which was actually very nice. We typically ordered the same three to four items because there wasn’t much else for vegetarians. The great thing is that portions were HUGE and the taste was pretty good. However so many times we waited forever for the food to the point that we had to ask and ask as we watched tables around us empty. Occasionally the food was cold and occasionally the quality and taste was poor. However, we generally liked it enough to visit again and again. I think eventually they did start to recognize us. We had some servers who were very fun and great to talk to(and excellent servers). Actually towards the end I really liked speaking with some of the servers. They were very, very cool people who went out of the way to check up on us. Still not every experience even later was a good one(due to seating issues, long wait times), but many I think were. In the end, we started to get pickier about what to eat and Hogan’s really never modified their menu so we stopped going. But I guess if it works for most then why fix it. Anyway, I do feel that if you were someone with any minor degree of celebrity status, you did get treated better here right from the start. However, eventually they did recognize us too and that was kind of cool(although after going here for 15 to 20 years maybe it would have been more disappointing if they didn’t recognize us). It’s sad for me to see the area transform and some staples(no, not Staples the office store lol, but rather real staples!) of the area leave. I haven’t been to Hogans in a long time maybe 5 – 10 years but it was still comforting to see it occupy its usual space. We have had so many mixed experiences here(even on very special days like birthdays and anniversaries) that I debated a 2 star versus 3 star review but there were more positives than negatives on the more recent visits. I will be sad to see it close in 1 week on January 31st2016. I really hope that all of the waitstaff find new jobs in the area and that the owners go out of their way to help them. Good luck and thanks.

I like Hogan’s. It is a comfortable, unpretentious spot where you can get a good meal. There are a thousand precious places where you will get overcharged, treated rudely, and wait an hour for weird food. This isn’t it.

Have not been here for a while and had good experiences in the past, but yesterday neither the food nor service were good. The food was ok but a quesadilla and dinner salad and two soft drinks came to $ 30 before the tip. The diet cola had a chemical taste which the server explained was normal for a generic diet pop(what?) We ordered a side dish, never got it and when we inquired, he never still never brought it and it never appeared on the bill. The staff seemed overloaded and that may have been part of the problem. The place also looks tired and needs work. I would give it two stars if it weren’t for past experience. Hope it improves.

We had a birthday party here for my grandpa a few weeks ago. The food was very very average. I had the nachos. Nothing special. The service was great though.

Went here last night after not visiting for about a year. I had the black and blue burger — very spicy and hardly any blue cheese. Fries were good but cold. Husband had beef tips that were good. Our service was inconsistent. We waited for food, and requested water. Our waitress seemed uninterested. Given the other choices in the area, I don’t know how soon we’ll be back.

The restaurant has been in business for years and located a mile from my home. My first time there. I wasn’t impressed. The service was outstanding. Our server was very nice and personable. The décor was rustic and antiquated. We had to wipe the seat down before sitting. It wasn’t very clean. We ordered the chicken nachos. It was ok. The chicken on the nachos was not great.

New England Clam Chowder was good that we forgot to take a picture. Sliders and Caesar Chicken Wrap were delicious! If you go ask for DEBBIE, She was great! Very attentive to our needs :)

Back again for the gazpacho. Ask for it with a cucumber slice and sour cream. Still the best I have had in Michigan.

What a great restaurant. Tonight we are both having the Chicago Flat Iron Steak. Simply fantastic. Friendliest waitresses in town, and superb food. Memorable. Enjoy

This was the second time I have gone here for lunch in the past 2 months or so. This restaurant existed when I started working in Clawson back in 1978. I passed it by each way to and from work on 15 Mile Road. I always wanted to try it, so I finally did. First time for lunch had a corned beef Rueben sandwich sitting at the bar. Extraordinarily average, greasy. Second was today with my wife Pat. I had the French onion soup(good, not great) and a steak sandwich which I ordered medium rare. Pat had some sort of chicken roll up, which she said was good, and took half home(it was quite big). The steak sandwich was a disaster. Not medium rare, more medium well. And had terrible veins of fat in it that was near impossible to cut, let alone chew. I could not eat it. The waitress offered to get me another one, which I declined. I had had the soup and my wife wanted to get a dessert so I just wanted to send it back. Then a manager came over and asked what was wrong. I showed her the steak; she was embarrassed and offered to get a new one immediately. I politely declined; she took it off the bill. We had the carrot cake for dessert along with coffee. The carrot cake came with a scoop of ice cream on the side and it was good. The coffee was fine. Then for the surprise. The bill. Two glasses of wine, two coffees, one chicken wrap, and the dessert. The steak was removed. It came to just over $ 48.00! The décor is way dated. The place doesn’t seem very clean or well taken care of. The waitress was friendly and prompt, the manager very apologetic. I’ll give them that. But considering two overpriced, less than run of the mill experiences with Hogan’s, I see absolutely no reason whatsoever to return here.

I don’t have any idea where the bad reviews come from. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the food is on point, the service is spot on. I would recommend this place to others.

I measure by three different things in comparison to Taco Bell: DECOR: The restaurant is decorated like a clubhouse. It has golf décor particularly in the back. The town of Bloomfield Hills is very much a golf friendly place, so I gotta give them that. So 1.5 stars there. SERVICE: The service is pretty good. Never have to be keep waiting long very often whether it’s a refill or the food itself. The staff is fairly quirky and nice as well. Another 1.5 stars. FOOD: The food is terrible. I mean just gross. I have gotten the Chicken Quesadilla here and it was awful. I got the Fish and Chips and they were burnt. The French Onion Soup is like gross beef broth with onion in and and cheese on top. I actually think Taco Bell could do a better French Onion Soup — yes it’s that bad. Zero stars. FINALVERDICT: Is Taco Bell better? Yes. Taco Bell is more affordable, better quality food, even though the décor isn’t golf related it’s a lot more modern and well lit. Better eat at Taco Bell tonight instead guys.

Bartender and drink mixes were right on. Hubby commented when we walked in «Smells like old people.» I couldn’t argue. Not here for food, so reviewing after 9:30 pm vibe. We’re ~45 so we aren’t kids, but bartender called us «young man» and«young lady.» My ego will take it. And she was definitely in charge. Another plus. Was glared down by others for yelling at the tv for the Red Wings season opener, but think people got more excited as a result. A small victory. May try again before recommending to others.

The food is decent nothing to scream about. I had their Michigan salad with chicken it was ok lacked some essentials such as cherries but the rest of the flavors were there. The lettuce was lacking. They use a very sweet dressing that I recommend you get on the side because it can ruin the salad. They make good iced tea as well. Good service and the staff is friendly.

I was over in the area helping a friend pack for a move and we ordered take out from here. I got a burger with mushrooms and onions, my friend got the crispy chicken salad, and there were a couple of orders of chicken tenders for some other friends. To start, by the time everything got back to the house(1 mile away) everything was very soggy. My bun was almost inedible and the fries were all cold. I’m not sure how this is possible since we grabbed them fresh off the line. I only ate half my burger and felt sick the rest of the day, which typically means they used poor quality beef. The taste of everything was… ok. Feels to me like they are too expensive for what they are, and the quality just isn’t there.

The food is mostly tasty and the staff is friendly. The prices are fair. Try the French onion soup or the roasted garlic with shrimp and scallops. If you get the birthday coupon(or any email offer) make sure to print it out. They won’t accept it from your phone.

I went here with my kids thinking this would be a good place for kids. To me it really was not a kids place. They do not have changing tables in the bathrooms so I had to change baby in a very tiny space that I could barely fit in for just one. The bathroom was not even that clean and it was dated in there. I look at this when i go to a «family» restaurant. There were a lot of older people here which was kind of endearing. I did not grow up here but I imagine this place must have been the cool hang out a long time ago and it has never changed since then. I do feel like the place needs a face lift. The food was kind of like red robin type stuff which I am not into but the kids are. The waiter was nice enough. It is not a place I would ever go back to and I do not feel this is a kid friendly place.

I usually order carryout from Hogan’s and I’m always pleased! The blackened talapia with penne pasta and spinach is fantastic; so is the turkey reuben. Great staff… my order is always right, even with substitutions/special requests.

Food menu at this place needs a refresher, waitstaff seems like they been at the job too long and just tired and burnt out. Restaurant is getting dated and dirty. Used to like this place… Last few meals… Not much.
