Working off of Blue Hills on the Windsor/Bloomfield, you get tired of the same ol’ places(Day Hill Deli, Lox Stock, Slices, Vito’s). I randomly drove by this place a week ago and thought ‘didn’t that used to be a garage?‘ Indeed it was, which is clearly evident by the garage door still intact with a spruced up paint job. I knew this could go one of two ways — look suspect and be suspect, or look suspect and be delicious, as many hole-in-the-wall places are. To say the least, I am very happy to have stopped in this location, and plan on making this my weekly lunch diet-breaking trip. This review is only on the lunch sandwiches, as I haven’t had salads or the breakfast sandwiches at this time. I also don’t believe I will have a salad because I feel like I will be cheating on the sandwich list. I have had four of the eleven sandwiches on the menu so far, and I have had no faults with any of them. The«Curried Chicken Salad on Brioche» had just the right amount of curry, but my sandwich came on a croissant, not brioche(which didn’t faze me at all). The«Wallie Combo» had a plentiful amount of turkey on it, but the herb-mayonnaise and rosemary focaccia MADE the sandwich. The same can be said about the«Myles Club Sandwich», which has the same setup but with turkey, ham, bacon, and provolone versus turkey and cheddar. Either make a great choice. The final sandwich, or wrap in this case, I had was the«BLT Wrap», which was a healthier spin on a BLT(turkey bacon, which was made fresh to order, and no mayo). Great flavor overall, especially with the arugula in the spring mix. I sincerely hope The Filling Station survives because it’s my number one lunch spot in the area now. The only thing disappointing about The Filling Station is that my office is moving in a couple months about ten minutes down the road, making it more difficult to visit on a regular basis. :Side-note: I have always wanted to see one of those Square credit card readers in action, and The Filling Station uses an iPad with a Square reader for their register. Fun.:

The American Dream is alive and well on Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield. An old dilapidated gas station has been re-tooled and reimaged into a nice little luncheonette and take-out place on a road that sees 100 cars per hour(a quote from the owner) zoom by. The right side of the building used to be the gas station office, now its the order counter with a big blackboard menu on the wall. The left side of the building used to be 2 service bays, now its a dining room with a TV and a fireplace. Breakfast sandwiches, lunch specials, coffee, cold drinks– this is a commuter’s delight. I grabbed a turkey sandwich this morning– a very very generous portion of fresh turkey on focaccio bread with lettuce, tomato, and cheese for around $ 5. C’mon — support the independent little guy and check it out!

I drive pass this location every morning with the intention of going in when I have a min. Well today I made a minute to stop in and see what they had for breakfast. The outside of the place is clean and cute, it is inviting. I often see several cars outside. Inside is a small counter front, btw this used to be a gas station so the front of the store stayed like it would a gas station counter. hey have bagged chips, and store bought sealed pastries.(Nothing home made or fresh in that area which is kinda disappointing). There is a hand written menu, that was smugged so it was hard to figure out the breakfast food, but i could make out the egg, cheese, and sausage meal so I opted for that They offer lunch items as well but i wasn’t there for that. The cook and the owner are the same and he was very nice, he thanked me for coming by and started small talk as he prepared my meal, in a small room on that looked like some hot pans, an indoor grill and maybe a sink, the space was small and his companion co worker was back there doing something? I was told that there was a 5 $ limit for card purchases and that there was a variety of juices and soda, but I wasn’t told where so I found the drinks on my own(it’s not like u can get lost). I got a Perrier, and a snapple(apple), while exploring the cooler I saw they had some salads that looked fresh, but next to the salad there was a wait pan with dressing in it, as I spied more the dressing had mold on it… EWWW. that was the Caesar dressing. SMH when was the last time you checked that dressing? I saw at least three different type of salads, and my have opted to get one but the dressing put me off, dang! Well my sandwich was done in no time, it looked good there was no mold on the bread yes I looked cuz, if you are not changing out your dressings what else are you missing. Oh you are also given the choice of different breads for your sandwich I got a roll. For a small spot that has changed venues consistently since I was a child(I grew up in blmfd) it’s nice to see a place that may actually stay for a little while, some things can be improved but if it’s working why bother, I really would have loved to see some fresh pastries, the sandwich was good I shared, my friend enjoyed it also. So for now they get a three stars, there would have been four. This place is small and quaint, i would come back with cash because the sandwiches are a bargain, If i get a salad i will have my own dressing!!!
