Social Security Office

This place is an absolute joke. I was there over three hours. At one point they decided to close all three front windows, and not one number was called for over 15 minutes. They need a new intercom because people can’t make out their names being called or what window to go to. We can all see the employees walking around, socializing, getting coffe, drinks, and other snacks in the back while we are forced to wait in these uncomfortable chairs for hours at a time. Who cares that most are old, sick or took off work… make them wait right. Who’s in charge of running this place? Is it the guy who was playing with the thermostat for ten minutes before he went to the back and stood around for the majority of the time I was there? Good job to that guy btw…
About three hours in, my number flashed on the screen, but nobody called my name or said what window to go to. some other name was being called… but not mine. Then I got skipped. So I go complain to the only employee out there which unfortunately for him is the security guard. He tells me sometimes it does that. So I go back to my seat and then I see an opening at one of the windows. By this time I’m about ready to blow so I march to the window and tell the guy my story. He tells me that I missed the other guy calling my name and number. That was my number but not my name I explained… geez
I came to get a replacement SS card for my 8 year old. I have her birth certificate and another government issued document. That wasn’t good enough, I was asked if she has any other form of id. «She’s 8» I replied. «So no», He tells me to come back with her report card. Report card? Really?
I get policy is policy, so it’s not so much the fact that I didn’t leave with the replacement card that I came for in the first place, but the entire experience from beginning to end that was so infuriating and uncomfortable. This place needs so much help it’s not even funny.

Unable to visit their office, I scheduled a call from them. They called right on time, and not only answered all my questions thoroughly, but took the time to explain additional benefits and potential gotchas that I was not aware of even after a lot of research on my part. I personally wish to commend a Ms Heckler on her enthusiasm and patience to help me despite her obvious heavy work load. Granted this is my first impression of the office, but I cannot support the negative reviews of others. I was and still am pleasantly surprised.

My visit was to change from my maiden to married name. I went prepared: downloaded the form from the Social Security site and had a certified marriage license in hand.
I expected a wait-​time from 2 – 4 hours. My visit was 03 Feb 2015, a day after everyone was back to work after the snowstorm. Wait time 1 hour. Lucky! Mr. Davis helped me and congratulated me on my marriage. Did not expect any pleasantries (my own bank after a 25– year relationship didn’t give me a congrats). The names called out not very audible. Hard to understand, but there is a LCD board which is helpful. Better experience than I had anticipated. Convenient location as I had numerous agencies to visit to change my name.

After my last visit to the SS office, I was dreading going again. I decided to try this location instead. That was a great idea on my part.
This location is SO MUCH BETTER than other locations I have been to. Maybe I got lucky and it was a good day. I don’t know. But there was parking, I barely had to wait, and I got in and out within 5 minutes. Even the security officer at the front was nice. Definitely a pleasant experience after the last time!

Takes waaayyyy toooo long and when you do get your # called, you can see that they are all standing inside chatting, laughing and having fun. There is no concept of customer service, no front desk to answer any questions, security guard sucks and every single employee sucks. This place deserves 0. Worst government agency. The people that work there don’t care about who and how long they’ve been waiting, they take their own time.

I cannot believe how the government runs things. You would think they would have smooth running procedures to follow. I thought the government liked to control things?
The staff in this office moves at a similar pace as grape jam would slide down a small hill. Don’t come here if you have anywhere else to be later that day. Bring something to read or charge your tablet!
Although, I went out of my way to be extra nice to the woman helping me, she barely cracked a smile. I go through my days, every day to try to make a stranger smile and if I can actually get a laugh out of a stranger, I can rest my head at night knowing I made a difference.
To the staff here: do yourself a favor, try to lighten up. Life is short. Unlike your wait times.

I had a good experience at the Bloomingdale Social security office. I had a very nice woman helping me to determine whether/​when I could start collecting survivor benefits. She stated various options to me and answered all my questions.
The only reason I am not giving my visit 5 stars is due to the wait, it was about 45 minutes.

What a joke. If any other business ran like this business, they’d be out of business. Employees are rude. I came mid morning the first time. Waited an hour and left. Next time arrived 5 minutes before door opened and there were 30+ people in front of me. 45 minutes. I needed a new copy of my social security card. My choice is to send my passport and application in the mail, which I wasn’t willing to do or come to an office. Very very disappointed. Regardless of the wait, Government employees don’t need to have an attitude. Too bad they do. It’s obvious they either hate their jobs or think they are superior to the people the are paying their salaries.

Bloomingdale office
A blonde lady with short hair that works at the 3^rd service desk is beyond rude and incredibly unprofessional. She refuses to service people that ask her for common office items just to sign documents. It astounds me how this women managed to keep her job, she treats people like animals. We pay her salary, their is no excuse for her behavior!!! Revolted
