Finally I put my laziness aside and writing review for first time though I have been referring and reading them regularly on Unilocal for all options :) To me it is best Indian Buffet in and around Schaumberg area. Being an Indian, I had tried almost all. I am a vegetarian and it has best value for money for veggies. Always went there for Lunch buffet during office hours. Lunch buffet is priced at 8.99 plus taxes(Yaa, unheard price in this area) including weekends. On one lunch buffet, there was Okra(Bhindi). Easily one of the best Okra I had in restaurants and btw, does anyone serves Okra in buffet? :) Planning to go there some day for dinner. Btw, I tried dinner once at Maharaja and it was good. Lunch buffet was little disappointment there. For non veggies, my friend who had Chicken Tikka here was not so thrilled about it.

Really, really good food. I do the take out once in a while, but the best is going in for dinner. It is top notch, and the service is excellent. Lunch buffet is pretty good too, but I have not been there in a while because I am trying to avoid stuffing myself into oblivion.

I’ve ordered carry out as we’ll as dined here at least a dozen times. I really enjoy the food and atmosphere. The buffet is delicious and worth the cost, so definitely try that. Everything is priced fairly decently too, compared to some other Indian restaurants around.

Only because the service was terrible am I giving it three stars. It literally took 15minutes for someone to see us and seat us — there were a few people seated already but no hostess. Our waiter forgot about us so I had to track him down to have him take our order. AND bill. I seriously wondered if they would have noticed if we dined and dashed lol! Food was really good. This place is really great if you are Jain or have a friend who is as their menu and preparation has a specific Jain section. The samosas were great! Oh make sure you try the homemade pickle it really is great! I also had paneer makhani, and keema naan and gulab jamun. All were tasty and prepared well. Just remember, everything is prepared North Indian style. Oh and they have cute little dishes!

I went there with my family about a month ago(yeah, I know, delayed review) as an alternative to another Indian restaurant they were planning to go to. Let me say that I’m glad I «detoured» them here :) We came during the lunch hour so we got to enjoy the buffet. The buffet itself is a modest size with 6 – 10 main items, one or two dessert items, and a small veggie bar. This may seem small but this is normal for an Indian restaurant as their food takes long to cook compared to other cuisines. I’d give the food an 8 out of 10 because there were 1 – 2 tiny issues that didn’t affect taste but they could’ve done better. The only one I remember was that the rice had dry pieces but not enough to make me stay away from it. Didn’t even talk to the waiters because it was a buffet. I went during a weekday(not Friday) and we were the only customers there. Could be the economy but they need to put some effort towards the aging décor and maybe some advertising? So if you’re just looking for good food then come on over. If you’re looking for atmosphere, go somewhere else.

There are many Indian restaurants near Schaumburg area and I’ve tried almost all of them. Some are good, most of them are just okay and a few are really, really bad. As far as food and service is concerned, this place is just okay. Ordinary affair, nothing to wrote home about. The food here is NOT authentic. Everything was sweet and under cooked. Like Gaylords, this is another Americanized version of Indian food. Not going there again.

I coulda sworn I’ve reviewed the Taj before, but Unilocal told me to write a review, so I will. The Taj is a no frills place, that is all about the food for me and the family. We’ve been eating here for years(back when their spider plant was brand new– if you know what I’m talkin about, then you know the Taj). Outstanding lunch buffet. Outstanding dine-in. Take-out is mighty fine, but things like nan and the chicken tikka, which is supposed to come out on a sizzling plate, just don’t seem to transport well. Nothing against the Taj specifically on take-out. I’ve probably ordered at least half their menu(well, maybe not the vegetarian menu so much). We like that the same thing can be just a little different every time. It means they are really cooking it right in there. Rarely are they not on their tops with flavor. The Taj is one of those places that you keep coming back to after you think you want to try a new indian cuisine joint in the area, and nothing else stacks up. We’ve given up trying different places in the area. Its not worth it to us anymore. Can’t match the Taj.

The food here is absolutely phenomenal, and very reasonably priced. Hidden gem in Bloomingdale, it’s kind of off in the corner hidden behind McDonald’s and a lot of people don’t know about it but it is really fantastic.

Got some Indian take-out tonight and besides my mouth being on fire and the ridiculous heartburn I’m currently rocking, it was the bomb. We got the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Vindaloo(which came with rice) and 4 pieces of Naan(buttery, crispy, and chewy deliciousness). It was a little pricey($ 33 plus tip) but it was REALLYGOOD. The Tikka Masala has the perfect amount of curry, tomato, cream, and spice and the chicken had a nice tangy quality to it. The Vindaloo was SPICYASHELL and set my mouth on fire(despite my love for spicy foods AND the fact that I ordered it medium spicy… I’d hate to see what hot is like!) but it was also really good. The Vindaloo had really tender potatoes and a great sauce too. I definitely need to come back for the buffet to try more… I just gotta remember to take some Tums first.

Met with a friend after work who had recommended Taj Mahal. So very glad that she had offered up this restaurant, although we were both surprised at how empty the restaurant was. We started with samosas, which is just a commonplace appetizer for me at Indian restaurants. Where the restaurant really shined was with the chana batura and the chilli paneer. I ate so much food that I was miserable. The prices are ridiculously inexpensive, compared to a lot of Indian restaurants. Also, we found out that the buffet price is also incredibly reasonable. I will be going back several more times after work.

Yum! The wonderful buffet was almost completely vegetarian, with two meat dishes at the end. The piping hot naan bread was delicious and my friends enjoyed the tandori chicken. The waiter was attentive and very nice. I definitely will return.

This place is one of our comfort food staples. A small staffed and probably family owned and run restaurant where I can go and know exactly who will be waiting my table and know that the food will taste exactly as I expect. Although unlike everyone else here I’ve been only once to the buffet. I thought it was adequate and certainly a good value, but please don’t judge them by that. I strongly recommend going in for dinner, try the chicken tikka masala, mateer paneer, and chicken sagwala. Vegetable samosa, mango lassi, garlic naan, also favs. It’s very authentic, i.e. spicy so don’t stray from mild unless you know what you’re doing. It’s not fancy in décor or service but it’s nice and consistently good Indian food. If you really like Indian food then you must give them a try.

Who wants Naan? I do, I do! I’ve only ordered dinner take-out here but on each occasion, the order was ready right on time, piping hot and delicious! I think I’d like dining in – the dining area is tidy, white tablecloths and I like how they have bottles of the wine available in view. I’m such a sucker for labels and if I wasn’t familiar with the wine from a wine menu, if I like the label I might just get it anyway. The food is very good. I’ve had so many of the dishes here, but my favorites would have to be the Bangan Bartha – roasted eggplant in a savory sauce, the Saag Paneer – paneer cheese cooked in fresh spinach, Chicken Vindaloo – tender chicken in a spicy sauce, and the Rogan Josh – lamb curry. Despite the spicy heat of the vindaloo and the lamb curry, the dishes still have a wonderful flavor that makes me just want to sop everything up in their delicious naan. Once in a while a dish might be a little on the salty side but that doesn’t happen very often. Their dishes do come with rice – naan is an extra small charge. The lunch buffet is something I’d like to check out. With good food and friendly folks, it also sounds like a winner.

I am LOVING this place. So far we’ve only gotten dinner takeout twice, but it’s been yummy. Everyone’s so nice and friendly, especially the owner. Will come back for a sit down dinner. I couldn’t find a website for them and finally found pics of their menu from a blogger. The experience started off badly. The guy who answered the phone couldn’t speak English well at all, and I kept getting long pauses before I figured out he was talking to other people without asking me to hold or anything else. Then he’d get back on the phone and repeat again for the SIXTH time, ‘you want… ummm…chicken tikka masala?” This continued for 8 minutes(per cell phone display). I almost gave this up, but I’m glad I persevered, because everything was delicious. On the second takeout, another person answered, and everything went smoothly. I wanted chicken tikka tandoori, but the order-taker gave us boned chicken instead, but it was delicious — well-marinated, tender, and well-seasoned. In fact, I liked it better than the tikka(second takeout), which turned out to be smaller chopped-up pieces instead of kebab-sized like we’re used to. The Chicken tikka masala and mango lassi were very good. The naan was so yummy and fresh, I inhaled two of them before we even started eating the rest of the food. The second time, we ordered lamb vindaloo, which would have been good if it hadn’t been unbelievably oversalted — we’re figuring it’s a mistake, and won’t be too hard on them for it — unless it happens again. Will certainly continue ordering takeout from them. I think India House ranks above this, but Taj Mahal is a very close second for now. Gaylords ranks a far third.

I love this place. The best part may be the the waiter who works here, who is just an incredibly pleasant and friendly person. The restaurant is spacious and clean. We tried their lunch buffet today. At $ 8.99 it’s a great value. Loved the sizzling plate of Tandoori chicken and hearty basket of hot naan, included with the buffet cost. I often have trouble at Indian restaurants because I can’t take really spicy food, so I was happy to see that almost everything was bearable for me, provided I drank a lot of mango lassi :).(Update: Actually, I think I’m just getting better at tolerating the heat. Yay!) We’ve been here several times for dinner, usually getting the Thali option which is great. Besides my standard faves like Palak Paneer, I love their sweet corn curry and their mushroom dish. If you ask for mild Palak Paneer, they actually add tomatoes to the dish, and it’s quite good. They serve a more generous portion of mango lassi than other Indian restaurants, and it’s delicious! Also, at $ 3 it’s one of the cheapest mango lassis in the burbs.

I don’t consider myself an expert in Indian cuisine but I know what tastes good. I can’t pass up an indian restaurant without wanting to try out what they got. Most places I try, I never go back to. Taj Mahal on the other hand is fantastic. Their lunch buffet stands out among all others. And specifically, their naan and samosa is the BEST I have ever had. Whether you are a vegetarian or a meat eater, this is THE place to go. Every single dish is amazing! Don’t miss out and try this food!

Took my fat ass here for the lunch buffet. Go figure, a two ton hefty at a buffet. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality and spiciness of the food. I will agree with the other reviewer when she said that Taj Mahal doesn’t have mind blowing variety, but what they do have is executed very, very well. There were some pretty tasty chutneys, mixed pickles, and about 10 entrees and 2 desserts. Tandoori chicken and naan were brought to the table and were very, very delicious. Some standouts in particular were the dahi papadi which consisted of potatoes, chick peas, and tomatoes topped with a delicious tamarind cream chutney(WOW!!!), the eggplant in spicy cream sauce, and chicken tikka. The gulab jamun for dessert was warm, comforting and delicious, actually some of the best gulab jamun I’ve had anywhere. And believe me, my lard ass eats A LOT!!! So much so that you better keep your kids away from me, otherwise they’ll wind up in me belly!!! I want my baby, baby, baby, baby back ribs, Chili’s…Sorry, got carried away. Anyway, for $ 8.99 you can eat some pretty damn tasty Indian food in a really laid back atmosphere. The service was attentive and the restaurant itself was extremely clean and inviting. So overall, I give this place: Service: 4 stars Food: 4 stars Variety: 3 stars Décor: 3 stars Price: 4 stars Overall value: 4 stars

I went here this past weekend to celebrate my boyfriend’s and his sister’s birthdays. It was the first time ever eating Indian food and I didn’t know what to expect. I’m glad that we went because the food was delicious! There are a couple of reasons why they aren’t getting the full five starts. First of all, all of their meals can come a la carte or thandi(i don’t know how to spell it, but it means the complete meal). Because we didn’t go during the buffet time, we all wanted complete meals. When we ordered, only a la carte was available. Bummer, but they gave us fresh nan bread which was delicious! The other reason was that we had to wait 45 – 60 mins for our food. It wasn’t packed at all, only about 4 – 5 tables full. I don’t know why because by boyfriend’s family said they never had to wait this long before. If we weren’t a kinda big group, I would have been bored and very angry while waiting for my food. One more thing, DONOT eat that green stuff by the door. I did not know that’s what real licorice looks like. After eating what a yummy dinner, my mouth tasted so bad after eating some of it. I guess it’s used to cleanse your palette, but don’t do it!

We visited Taj Mahal for a Friday-the-13th Valentine’s dinner. We were expecting busy-ness, being a dining out weekend, but we were alone for most of the meal, with a few carryout customers. This is an unassuming restaurant in a quiet strip mall, but the intersection is busy and I hope they are busier than they look! The décor is nothing special — a picture of the Taj Mahal, a tiger, and some motel-style landscapes. But the tables are cleanly and simply appointed, and it’s not run down or dingy at all. Service was excellent, although you would hope so, being alone. :) We started with cashew nut rolls as an appetizer, which were mashed potatoes rolled in a finely ground cashew covering. DELICIOUS. I had a tandoori chicken dish(that I can’t remember the name of) that was garlic and ginger-rubbed chicken with onions, peppers and tomatoes. Flavorful, very tender and juicy, lots of spice but not much heat. My husband had chicken vindaloo, which was really spicy, but in a delicious way. Lots of flavor to go along with the heat. The naan served with the meal was yummy, and we shared some saffron rice to accompany our meat. All in all, it was an excellent and reasonably priced meal, and we were left with tons of leftovers. I reminded my husband that he does in fact love Indian food and we will certainly be back.
