Top-notch for locally farmed/produced goods from meats to eggs and veggies. Products are researched thoroughly for source and quality, I can’t say that about the chains where anything goes. Many of their items you cannot find anywhere else. They are the first in town to carry new organic products. Lots of gluten-free, vegan options. Staff is always helpful. Bulk items and herb selection can’t be beat. The bottom line is that I know I can trust what they sell in there. Definitely worth the trip from the East Side to stock up!

Absolutely fantastic! I buy my honey here in bulk. Bring your own container or use one of theirs! They also have wonderful bread from a local organic baker and offer a coop like produce club by the month!

Willing to order anything you need. Prices are fair and they support local farmers. Hummus is amazing!

This used to be the only vegan/vegitarian/special needs grocery in town… now with Fresh Market and Naturally Yours, we have some more options. It’s a bit pricey, being an independant store. Their selection of spices and herbs are not to be matched in Central Illinois. Other items, such as bath and beauty products or nondairy items, you can’t find anywhere else either.

Great place to get eggs from local farmers, organic produce, and your whole standard range of hippie pantry and spicery. And I say that in a good way. Hours could be better, but it works. Glad this place makes it.

LOVE Common Ground. We get our yeast and turbinado sugar there! We also get all of the ingredients for organic granola. For those of you who love honey, bring your own container and get some of the local honey they offer. VERY cool! Lots of local farm products are offered… Ropp Jersey Cheese, BlueSchoolHouse Farms produce, etc. Clean and friendly staff… open for Farmers’ Market, too!

One of my favorite spots to shop when I was in college down in Blormal. It is a tiny shop but stocked full of organic items, bulk spices and grains, frozen goods, fresh produce. It’s like Whole Foods’ baby sister. I also love the fact that you are supporting local businesses and farmers!

Nice, well maintained, cozy little health food store, in a very convenient location. Sadly there aren’t many small independent health food stores like this around anymore. Like Lauren said the bulk section is awesome for spices and other dry goods. They seem to always have one of their coffees on sale; it’s hard to beat organic fair trade beans for $ 6.99 a pound. They also carry locally produced eggs and cheeses. For their small size their selection is excellent, they even have holistic pet food.

The bulk section is a savior for anyone who doesn’t want to spend $ 7 on garam masala just for one night of Indian cooking. The overall selection of groceries is somewhat limited(you don’t want to buy your kitchen staples here… unless you need something like whole wheat pastry flour or raw turbinado sugar, but again, this is where bulk is useful), but it is a small specialty store, and by definition, specialty is not all-inclusive. There’s a huge selection of teas, herbal supplements, juices, and wonderful local produce. The prices are a bit steep, but the quality is always consistent, and the food is predominantly organic. The Common Ground is a haven for vegans, and they have the town’s most extensive and only selection of dairy-free cheeses, ice creams, frozen pizzas, etc. The staff is great, and there’s a refreshing«we care about the earth and our bodies» vibe going on in the store. Check out the bulletin board by the door. If you’re looking for alternative anything in Bloomington, Illinois, you’ll find it here. Vegan potlucks, yoga classes, etc.
