First Edition

Okay so this place is amazing when you want a change in your hair styles be it a simple hair cut or a change in your hair color. I am always nervous when it comes to trying out a new salon. But this was a good decision I made.
I wanted to get partial highlights but I wasn’t sure of the shade. TERI Is amazing. I showed her a couple of pictures saying this was what I wanted it to look like and she started working on my hair. She took her time. No hurry and always made me feel comfortable. My hair was initially all black and I got a shade of brown for partial highlights and I loved the outcome. I’ll be back. Undoubtedly one of the best hair coloring experiences I’ve ever had. The whole staff works as a team which is probably why you are reading such amazing reviews. Do give it a try.

Wow! This was one of the best hair coloring experiences I’ve ever had. I just moved to Bloomington from Austin, TX, and was very nervous about trying a new hair salon. I knew I wanted to dye all my hair darker, and I finally settled on First Edition since it had great reviews online AND used Aveda products.
I could not be happier with my hair color. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the woman who did my hair (Jackie!) was so nice and helpful. She nailed the color I was going for. Great prices for above average service and quality. Would (and am) recommending this salon to all my friends!

This is probably the best salon in the Bloomington Normal area. The whole staff is always super friendly and helpful. I’ve gotten my hair cut and highlighted a few times and each time it’s perfect. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair cut. I won’t even think about going anywhere else. Very clean and nicely decorated.

Love this salon! If you’re looking for somewhere to get your haircut, you have to make an appointment here! I have been here twice and have left extremely satisfied! I changed my hairstyle both times! Teri is super great and really listens to what you want! I was nervous to find a new place after I moved here but now I will not go anywhere else!

My wife urged me to get my hair cut and styled differently from how i normally wear it so I looked up hair salons in the area and came across First Edition! Janine was awesome! I told her kind of vaguely what I was looking for and she worked some real magic. Got a new hair-​do and loving it. Great customer service and a quality salon.

I went here for the first time in 2009 to get a last-​minute updo for my courthouse wedding. The hair was beautiful. The staff was amazing. The whole thing was a miracle. I was so enthralled by the service, the space and the quality that I went back for years, and only stopped because I followed the stylist.

Absolutely the best salon that I know of in Bloomington-​Normal. They are experts in customer service. They take your coat as soon as you walk in the door; they know your name. It’s the little things that counts. The woman who cuts my hair, Brandi, is awesome. Hair cut is great and she is always willing to help me and and give me a little bit of direction. Everyone here definitely knows what they are talking about.
Before going be aware that it is definitively a little more expensive than most places in town, but I firmly believe that this is a perfect example of «you get what you pay for.» They have a great website, so be sure to check the prices before making an appointment.

I got an up-​do done for my wedding and not only did my hair look great, but there is such a warm/​friendly atmosphere that really put me at ease. Seemed like the staff knew everyone’s name! My stylist was Kathryn and I didn’t give her much direction so she would stop and ask me what I thought every once in a while. Overall great experience.
They seemed really busy and it looks like you probably have to make an appointment (a walk-​in would have to wait a little bit).

I moved here from California about a year ago and have tried several salon in Bloomington. I have finally found one that like. I went and had a Brazilian Blowout and the girl did a great job. It was very inexpensive, compared to what I paid in CA. I am going in a couple of weeks to have my hair foiled and I can’t wait. I am so GLAD that I was able to find a salon that lives up to LA standards!

When I moved here after college, a coworker told me about First Edition and after 8 years, I’ve never looked back! I have never had a bad haircut or color, even when i decided to be a redhead and then go back to blonde 4 months later. Whether its a regular cut and color, or the many wedding updo’s I’ve experienced (including my own) I’ve had a great experience. And for a treat their facials are fantastic, as are their eyebrow waxing and manicures.
Since they don’t accept tips, I’ve been referring friends for years. And its great to have a sincere hello from everyone at the reception area when you first walk in. They remember your name and make you feel like a princess, which is what i think a salon should do.
A Chicago caliber salon in the heart of illinois. Couldn’t be happier.
