Food was reasonably tasty, but my sesame chicken wasn’t actually sesame chicken but actually sweet and sour chicken with a sprinkling of sesame seeds. My friends had orange chicken and and thought it was OK too, but not great. Price was pretty good – $ 33 for 3 of us, including soup, salad, fried rice, egg roll, and entrée.

Some of the best beef egg foo young I have ever had! And I’ve been eating egg foo young my whole life. But the service is HORRIBLE.

We always do takeout from Grand Szechuan. Have never actually eaten inside. Our food is always fantastic. Easy online ordering. No delivery, which is probably a good thing or we’d get it every week!

First time I was here, I ordered something that didn’t look appetizing but it turned out tasting delicious! Second time here, still delicious! I don’t think they can make anything taste bad unless they did it on purpose. They have the perfect amount of meat and vegetables and their portion is generous! I would bring my family here!

First and foremost, the food gets a 5-Star! The Orange Chicken, and Sesame Chicken are AMAZING!!! To mirror what others have said, the service its slightly hit or miss. It’s a very traditional oriental place — not your Leeann Chin by any stretch of the imagination. All oriental staff, oriental décor, signage in characters which I do not understand, and your traditional chain-smoking oriental staff out back by the dumpsters(lol). Don’t get me wrong — your always greeted promptly at the host /hostess station, and seated very quickly. Ice waters are brought out to you, as well as a complimentary hot tea and ceramic glasses for you to pour yourself at the table almost like a beverage appetizer. Super good tea! A good 75% of the customer base is oriental, and I have gotten the«outsider» vibe going there with my fellow Caucasian comrades. If I didn’t pick up on that vibe about every other time I’ve gone here(and I’ve been here about 6 or 7 times maybe) then this place would get a 5-Star review for sure! Very clean bathrooms, very clean establishment, I wish they were open later! You can smell their deliciousness from the parking lot, you will get pulled in here by the smells if you get close enough, haha! They also box your leftovers up for you, which I wasn’t used to at first but I guess can be kind of nice. Awesome place overall, check it out and see for yourself! When in doubt of what to get, go with their Orange or Sesame Chicken!!!

When I’m in MSP for business, I drive extra to come here. Service — always prompt and friendly. Food — Beef in chili oil, pork belly, dumplings, etc. all on point, done to perfection. Classic authentic Chengdu. MaLa on a cold winters night. I seek out these joints — trust me… worth the drive. That dusting of szechuan peppercorn cures what ailes ya!

Great food but terrible service. If you go there, it will feel like they are doing you a favor serving you. Today I ordered from the lunch menu. I got my soup and after waiting more than 15 minutes I inquired about my food. And I was literally told by the manager«wait for your turn don’t you see its full? It’s normal» My jaws dropped… I have never been treated like this at a resturant. I told him… just telling me that you would inquire would have been a sufficient answer. If you like to be humiliated fo decent food… it’s all yours. If you want good service and even better food try little szechuan instead. The original szechuan resturant. This is just a knock off.

Best authentic Chinese food in MN. And I mean not best Americanized Chinese, I mean better than NYC Chinese restaurants best!!! Wow. Great service, always hot, always yummy, always authentic. My favorite dish of theirs is the Milky Crispy Shrimp and Piao Xiang Chicken! The shrimp was pretty sweet and crunchy, but is offset by the super spicy Piao Xiang chicken. This milk vs. acidic mixture is excellent! I also recommend the Mapo Tofu! Super spicy and one of the best sauces on the menu. :) Beware though: if you’re coming here for things like orange chicken and sesame, it’s really not that great and honestly, you’re wasting your money if you’re coming here for that! Try Grand Szechuan’s actually authentic Chinese food!

Our family makes the drive out here sometimes even though it’s far. You can get authentic food here that is GOOD. Although the portions are smaller than most Chinese restaurants the food is some of the best Chinese food in the Twin Cities. The décor is pretty outdated and the atmosphere is very damp and dark but the service was pretty good and the food timely!!! We will definitely be back!

We love this place! The staff is awesome and most of them know me. I can’t say I have had a bad meal. It is our favorite Chinese and the grandparents first choice when they pick where to meet after a kids event.

Amazing Chinese fare is hard to find in the Twin Cities — let’s be real, we live in the Midwest. I’ve lived in Minnesota my entire life and never made my way to Grand Szechuan… I finally had an excuse and dragged my family into the adventure. This place is located right off Old Shakopee Road, in a strip mall, ironically next to one of those 24 hour fitness centers. Right when we walked in, there was a white board with eight special items for the day; written in Chinese, which required my parents to translate. So far, pretty legit and as we were being seated, looking around the dining room; half the diners were Chinese, with Caucasian rounding out the last half. Again, another great sign :-) The menu is a mix of authentic Southern Chinese cuisine(Chengdu) and Americanized dishes(typical egg rolls, orange chicken). We were celebrating a birthday… so we had to order the usual buffet of food we always do… * Spicy Chengdu Dumplings * Szechuan Onion Pancakes * West Lake Ground Beef Soup * Dan Dan Noodles * Lamb in Szechuan Chili Broth * Pork in Szechuan Chili Broth * Fried Walleye w/Sweet Soy Sauce If you don’t like and/or can’t handle spicy food, this might not be the place for you. Southern Chinese cuisine is famous for being spicy and oily — so, if you’re a little nutty about healthy foods, don’t go here. #youhavebeenwarned Every dish was on point, spicy, flavorful and presented well. Sharp spice flavors, accompanied by wok scorched chili peppers; mixed with onions, peppers and various meats(lamb, pork belly, fish). These are dishes eaten with loads of rice, it kept the population in Southern China full and warm(hence the spicy foods). West Lake soup is classic Southern China, their version was a thicker broth base, filled with pepper and fresh cut cilantro. The noodles had a nice chew to them, mixed with spicy soy sauce and minced pork — on point and a nice item to share around the table. My absolute favorite thing in the world in dumplings and their’s are hand made, deep fried and paired with a solid sweet and spicy soy sauce; a must order!!! If you want something different from Americanized Chinese food and tired of buffets, create a reason to hit this place up; you won’t be disappointed! *Note: I had written Northern China, my bad and thanks to those who sent me a note and education on geography; it should be Southern China.

Lunch special was OK. Service is what stood out. It took a while for the waiter to come around, and then we were one of the last tables to receive our food. To top it off, they decided to take a larger tip than what I left on my card.

Grand Szechuan is on the short list of best Chinese restaurants in the Twin Cities. While I personally prefer Tea House in Plymouth, GS is equally strong and in some ways even better. We are fortunate to have any Chinese restaurants of this caliber in the area, much less two of them. If you enjoy Szechuan cuisine, go without hesitation!

We come here more than 5 times in 1 month and this two order is a must have in my plate… tips is automatically included in the check. Not all in the menu are nice, you must try a lot before you have your fav. Some service staff not friendly. Food very fast. One thing, they forgot my beer

I desperately wanted some legitimate Szechuan food last night, so I started reading Unilocal reviews to make a good choice. I was intrigued with what I saw for Grand Szechuan, as reviews were either 4⁄5 stars or 1 star. I decided to give it a try, as it was only a 15 minute drive for me. I ordered the Chengdu Spicy Dumpling(per a few other good reviews) as well as the Crispy Spicy Chicken. Both had very, very nice flavor, but the Crispy Spicy Chicken was almost inedible; the chicken was so over cooked that it that was chewy beyond description. So, the dilemma was what rating to give, and I settled on a 2 after much deliberation. The average of four, for the dumplings and a zero, for the Crispy Spicy Chicken(leather).

We drove 25 minutes to try this place on a whim, and boy, was it worth it! We got the mapo tofu and a chicken dish, the name of which escapes me. A lot of others on here mention it. Regardless, solid food, excellent service, and the spice isn’t «Minnesota hot». This is true Szechuan cuisine. Color me impressed! We’ll be back frequently and soon. Expect complimentary tea, too. That was nice. And gigantic portions.

I was impressed with Grand Szechuan and I’m not shy to say it’s probably the best Chinese I’ve had in the Twin Cities. As someone who normally prefers Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, or Japanese… Its hard for me to find a chinese restaurant I truly enjoy enough to come back to. They serve complimentary tea which was a great first impression for me. Service was prompt and friendly… The space is big and pleasant, although nothing special it is nice enough to be considered a nice sit down place to me. My friend and I ordered chung king spicy shrimp, chung king spicy beef(because they were out of beef short ribs), and spicy chicken dumplings. Everything was quite good. The shrimp were large and the breading wasn’t too thick or overpowering. The beef was a tad bit salty for me, but my friend loved it. Both had a slight spice, but not enough to be considered spicy to me. The spicy dumplings stole the show… Nice and spicy, big dumplings with nice portions of chicken. By far the best Szechuan dumplings I’ve had. I’ll definitely be back, even if it is a little far out… Its worth the drive, I highly recommend it.
