Very pleasant place to sit and eat and the pizza tastes AMAZING. The Prosciutto Arugula Pizza and the Potato Pie were especially good. The pizzas are gourmet and don’t make you feel like you’ve eaten a brick afterward like a lot of other pizza places do. Highly recommend!

Color me unimpressed. After reading the numerous reviews, I thought I would give King Dough a try. I did, and left to go eat at Opie’s. After seeing the online version of the menu, I thought something had been left off and the menu at the restaurant would be complete. Nope. Their menu has a few appetizers and descriptions of specific combinations they offer. Does it say the size of the pizza? No. Does it say how many a pie will serve? No. Does it give you an option to build your own? No. Strangely enough, we were told we could pick a pie and alter the toppings. If that’s an option, why not just include the option to build a pie? On top of that, the booths in the bar area are strangely uncomfortable. No matter where I sat, it felt like the back was pushing me forward. Maybe I’m too old for gimmicks. Just give me a great pizza the way I want it. That’s all I ask. There are lots of places that do that, but this isn’t one of them.
I was super impressed with the size of my salad. The pizza was thin but really good. They also had zombie dust!

Awful experience. Had to wait but no one was responding to the customers. The smell inside was not good at all. Would not recommend

Amazing pizza! Some of the best pizza I have ever had. They also have gluten free pizza-for those who are allergic. Their salads are huge and as impressive as their pizzas. You cannot go wrong with eating here. Service was excellent. There is nothing that I could complain about.

Service decent, pizza so, so. Had meatballs first, best food I ate. Cobb salad was enjoyed by companion. Both pizzas had too much burnt crust. It took over the flavor of the pizza. Pizzas could use more of the toppings. Might go back but not anytime soon. Found out you can order the pizza blonde. No burnt crust!

Yes yes yes … King dough is a favorite for sure. I’ve been here a couple times for lunch now … First things first, that pizza ! I love a good New York style pizza. Theirs was light and airy yet not too soggy. Then there’s the fact they have beer … Let me rephrase … They have good beer … I mean there’s nothing like a ruby bloom to get your afternoon a going. The lush in me is a sucker for beer that comes in a mason jar also. Like, it totally gave me that«I’m a cool, hipster mom» vibe.. I dug it. . Service and ambiance– both awesome … Very relaxed staff, you don’t feel rushed and the vibes of this pizza joint itself … Makes me want to be a lot more hip … Than I already am. I highly recommend this place.

2.5 Stars– Here’s why… I walked in with a buddy and was only able to get seats at the bar. INSTEADOF a menu of delicious brick– oven pizza, I was handed what seems to be the bartenders«To-Do» list,(please see the picture I post to understand how APPAULED I was). I didn’t think I had to mention that I was a critically acclaimed Unilocal reviewer up until this point, but I gave the manager the heads-up. My pal Max ordered a small Caesar salad which happened to be very big for a small, which he rates 3⁄5. I figured everything would be alright after this point up until I was served an extremely unevenly cooked«Margarita Pizza». The«fresh» mozzarella cheese doesn’t stick to the pizza and the crust was much too OVERCHARRED(see pictures). The«personal» sized pizzas are much too big and will be COLD by the time you are ready for the second half. Not to mention it took much too long. Unfortunately, they only have beer and wine after this meal that really made me need a gin. As an East coast NJ Native, I have high expectations for pizza and this was not the worst in Bloomington, however the service and unprofessionalism in this establishment will direct me across the street to Malibu Grill, who doesn’t even specialize in pizza and makes a better pie. Good try, «King» Dough. Quality– 5⁄10 Atmosphere– 6⁄10 Creativity– 6⁄10

My daughter and I visited after our IU tour. We didn’t want to any of the chains from back home like noodles & co, potbelly, etc. We found King Dough by default. We finished on campus around 415 or so. We stayed walking around town and a lot of the restaurants didn’t open until 5. King Dough was open and my daughter was looking for a salad so we went in. It was a very cool looking place. Served pizza and salads. The pizzas are served piping hot out of the wood fired oven. My daughter ordered the Cobb salad. It came out on a huge bowl. It was enough for both of us with leftovers. I ordered the H Bomb pizza. It was awesome! The tips sounded a little strange initially but together they were great. Pesto, mozzarella, goat cheese, kalamata olives, pappadew peppers, and zucchini. The crist from the wood fired oven was slightly blistered and tremendous. If my daughter does go to IU, I know we’ll easy at King Dough whenever I visit.

I had King Dough for lunch to get my regular but infrequent pizza fix. I really liked«what they have done with the place.» Good wood for the oven, nice lighting, relaxed but not divey feel. The staff were super pleasant and I’d go back for a splash of such friendliness. So I plan to return and try to give them another star. I am very conservative in pizza and shared a mixed up non meat pizza. I expect it was very good and I just need to try something more classic(classically American perhaps) than goat cheese. Well varied menu. Superb sounding salads. I will certainly visit again and try some other options.

Wonderful addition to the square! We were sad to see what was in the location go but this is for sure an upgrade — in both food quality and atmosphere. Real wood oven pizzas, quality ingredients, beautiful salads. So happy to see this crew move from food truck to brick & mortar. They have deals during the week, try to carry local beer, and are basically just yummy! What they do so right: 1) brick oven for wood fire roasted pizzas 2) quality ingredients 3) thanks for putting in a changing table — major upgrade! Room for improvement: 1) offer half or side salads(all salads are currently ginormous so you have to share with somebody or pick either pizza or salad instead of having the best of both worlds) 2) I look forward to them maybe coming up with some additional pizza combinations — some of which could utilize items they have available for salads but, as of yet, are not used with pizzas: spinach, roasted chicken, etc.

Very happy with our choice of King Dough. The pizzas are fantastic. We had a hard time choosing just one. Ended up with Sweet Bee and was very happy. Will be back next time we are in town.

Yowza, it’s nice to finally visit this place after reading about it for the past several months. Have been planning our move from California to Bloomington for awhile now, so had been Unilocaling a lot of restaurants. Some lived up to their ratings and others, not so much. King Dough(or King D’oh! as I like to call it in a Homer Simpson voice) lives up to the high rating. Went for lunch today and shared a Caesar Salad(it is HUGE and you will need to share it) and a Potato Pie. Also had a very good Northwind Russian Stout by Two Brothers Brewing. The salad was very fresh and the dressing was tasty. Decent anchovies too and plenty of them. The Potato Pie was a great combination of flavors and the crust was very good. A bit thicker crust than I expected, but still tasty. Service was fast and friendly until we were ready to leave. Only two servers and it was lunch time so they were busy. So it took a bit of time to get our check paid, but it was fine. There is cool art to look at on the walls, good music and the people watching is fun. Will look forward to a return visit and trying a different pizza.

I don’t do many reviews but I read a review from Alyssa A and the response from KDough and I feel I need to throw my thoughts in. I loved the pizza… My son didn’t care so much for it. Let’s be real here… Not everybody likes the same things, CLEARLY. I like flavor and he likes McDonalds. That’s what taste buds have evolved to. Doesn’t make it right or wrong. It’s called«Taste Buds». Personally I probably won’t go back often. Not bc of the food or service(It was very good) but because the choices we were limited to made it tough for the family to all decide. My personal thought to the sparring between AA and KD is one that needs addressed. People like AA are angry, unhappy, people who hide behind a computer screen and have no idea how tough it is to be in business. They don’t understand the hard work and long hours people put into their«other» child, aka their business. I know. I understand. I commend KD for standing up for themselves. Great job! Push the haters out of Unilocal. All you have to do is look at her reviews and understand she has no soul.

Surprised by the very uneven reviews as King Dough hit nothing but high notes with me. Admittedly, I went twice when the crowd was very thin but still… Pretty minimalist dive bar/back yard industrialist décor. I think it works. Nice beer selection — not extensive but Bell’s, Founders, and Dogfish Head on the out of town pipes? That’s OK. and $ 4.00/$ 5.00 pints? That’s a plus. I think they had the fire just right on my visits. Great, bubbly, charred(but not burned) crust. Right amount of tooth. tomatoes were bright, the cheese complemented but didn’t overwhelm. It is not quite a Neapolitan as the whole of the pie was cooked crisp and didn’t have the soupy center. The Proscuitto and Arugula worked well. The peppery leafs complemented the salty Parma ham. We had very good service in the«back room bar». I suspect that it could be noisy on a busy night but we had it all to ourselves. There are many species of pizza these days. This wood — fired specie is my favorite and King Dough does it well. I think it compares well to Napolese Pizza in Indianapolis(actually, better pizza). I am grateful with the spread of these great wood ovens. Keep ‘em coming!

Very excited about a new restaurant on the square! I went in the first week or two of opening on the weekend so it was of course very busy for offering everyone’s favorite dish: pizza. The options of pizza were very classic and artisan and gluten free customers were also considered. Although I do not abide by any gluten free diets, I shared one at the table and it reminded me of how good it is to be able to eat gluten because it was bland and flat. The pizza with their regular dough was more inflated and had a chewy, very slightly undercooked texture with some big, blistered bubbles on the crust, indicating a nice oven pizza. King Dough puts forth their best efforts; it’s just not my style or flavor profile of pizza.

I believe my score is low because I didn’t like what I ordered. But, let me give you a little background as I am encouraging you to try for yourself. I heard about King Dough from our favorite vegan bakery in town. I heard Napoli style pizza and was so excited. I have this place in northern Indiana with Napoli pizza and it’s the stuff dreams are made of. So I went in with extremely high expectations. We went in approx 1 month after they opened, and it was a Friday. They were so packed. The volume from people talking was so loud in the main area we decided to sit at the bar. I LOVE the bar… Still that wood from Max’s days. I asked my waitress for help ordering get something vegan as I was having problems finding an option. She suggested the most plain pizza. I would have been embarrassed to have served this as an appetizer. Sauce and cloves of garlic. No veggies. Nothing to break up the monotony that comes with eating a large plate of dough. I am willing to pay more than the $ 8.95 that pizza cost me. I guess I will add some more toppings myself on my next trip. But, as of this writing, I can only say that you should go… and trust your own opinion/tastes.

King Dough has a great, straight to the point menu with a friendly staff. The atmosphere is very cozy. Recommend for families or even if you’re passing through and looking for a beer. Not many small, quick bites. I’m usually not a fan of thin pizza, but theirs really did it for me! Not only was the pizza made with fresh ingredients, but the salad was equally well prepared and definitely a large portion! Great new pizza addition to Bloomington for those looking for a good atmosphere with solid thin pizza and a sweet staff.

New pizza place in the square downtown. Casual atmosphere with lots of wood as decoration ready for the wood fire ovens. Cool bar area seating to watch the pies being made. We didn’t make it back to the actual bar today. Menu had a nice appetizer, salads, and pizza selection as well as craft beer and ginger kambucha. Our table had the meatballs, Margherita and Stinky Pete pies. Meatballs serves in a tiny cast iron skillet and delicious! Loved the bread with them. Pizza was good, nice crispy crust. We like it but didn’t love it and there are some places I love. If we were to get takeout Trailhead would beat this out, but for dine in thin crust in town, we will be back. Note: it was busy when we arrived on Saturday at lunch so we agreed to take the table in the front window and wow the sun was hot! Would not sit there again during the day.
