Pork belly ramen is the best! Hope they have more sushi selection but still we’re going back to eat here someday.

Looking for something a little different than food court food while I was at the MOA and I spied this spot down the hall from the food court on the 3rd level. Unfortunately, I felt like this was the McDonalds of sushi restaurants. The sushi was presented rather sloppily and I did not think the flavors were that great. Passable sushi if you are in the mood and don’t want to take the time or pay the prices at Crave, but definitely go in with low expectations.

Great ramen! It’s definitely our go to noodle place @ MOA. Service is average. Our steamed bun(for appetizer) arrived when we were almost done with our ramen. Our server did not charge us for that.

Average sushi, but about the worst and slowest service I have had in years. Service with a smile, just very poor quality.

We came for happy hour! Of course we got really happy. I ordered the ramen. Honestly, worse bowl of ramen ever. It was shameful, but what do I expect from a restaurant in MOA. Our server was super cool and able to get all of our needs met. Everyone enjoyed their food for the most part, but no one was blown away. The sushi sizes in MN are so small compared to California! That’s one thing I won’t miss from this state. I’d probably never return… Unless I’m looking to get happy!

This restaurant is nicely located on the third floor of the mall, open and is really cool looking with Pachinko Pin-Ball machines on the wall… Don’t know how the other dishes here are… but the ramen(and I had the Pork Tonkotsu Ramen) is really salty and oily! I wouldn’t come back to this place or recommend it… I’m sorry to have stopped by to try this place… just awful!

The MOA Masu is a huge step down from other locations. Though I’ve only been to the Apply Valley one it was leaps and bounds better than MOA. We went on a Saturday afternoon but were able to get a seat right away.(Maybe not a good sign?) Hostess and wait staff were rather awkward to move around as we tried getting to our table. We ordered the spring rolls which we’ve had before. The garlic sauce is made in house but the rolls are actually frozen. So they’re fairly cheap.(Probably the last time I will get them unless it’s happy hour). My partner got a mushroom-onion steamed bun. He said it was good(not really my thing). Again, good price. I believe he also had some sushi which was OK, nothing special. I love yakisoba. If it’s made well it is the epitome of a perfect meal(for me). However, I will be forever reluctant to order this at any restaurant again because Masu’s was so awful. The combination of spices, crunch and noodle was so off I found it hard to finish. The noodles were too thick and the veggies too chunky so it was a very poor presentation. As far as taste goes the mayo was a bad addition. When my partner helped me finish it his comment was«tastes like ketchup». No, just no. The only tasty part about it was the mushrooms. We also tried the sparkling rhubarb green tea. Which is hard to mess up so it was tasty. I would definitely not recommend this location and as an added bonus there was a very awkward couple that kept staring at us throughout our meal. I even made eye contact multiple times and they just kept looking. Maybe I should floss before I go out? Overall just a bad experience. One of those times that you go out and actually regret it.

Went to this place in a cold rainy day thinking ramen sounded good. They did not disappoint! I had the pork belly ramen with a side of the house made kimchi, amazing. The soup had a ton of flavor and the pork belly was tender and soft, not too fatty. Also enjoyed the happy hour specials with a steam bun and salmon maki roll.

Happy hour prices really aren’t that great when you compare to regular menu prices — at most $ 2 off the regular price. Quality is decent but value is where I can’t justify going to Masu on a regular basis. The tonkatsu curry ramen is a good choice on the HH menu cuz that’ll fill you up. The pork is fried well and flavor is good. The sushi is tasty but way overpriced. Minimum you’d have to order 2 rolls to be anywhere near full or satisfied.

I was visiting MN as I have family here and we always go to MoA. I wanted to grab some ramen downtown but since it was raining so hard we decided to check out this place since we were already at the mall. I really wanted to get the tonkatsu ramen, but I figured I would go for something different that I can’t get back at home. I got the curry katsu ramen and it was SOGOODWOW! So full of flavor and the katsu was perfection. I could have eaten 5 more bowls. Giving this 4 stars instead of five because I just wish the portions were bigger like traditional Japanese ramen style ;)

I’m a sucker for great interior décor. Their booths are layered with a red and black velvety leather type of upholstery AND each booth is different. They have cute soy sauce holders too. Nice and friendly staff. I was greeted immediately by the hostess. Good food. The curry cauliflower was my favorite served with warm soy sauce and pickled veggies. It was charred perfectly and had abundant flavor in each bite. Beef short rib kimchi ramen in a spicy broth was a bit bland but after I added extra dry spices that was brought on the side… yum. The smoked sea salt on the edamame lacked the«smokiness» but who expects salt to be smokey anyway. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience and I will be back next time I visit Mall of America.

Nice and inviting venue in the middle of mall America located on the 4th floor next to the food court. I was greeted by a friendly server whom was very pleasant. She was very helpful and did check in with us from time to time. She also made sure our water was constantly filled. I ordered the sweet shrimp was very fresh and sweet but they have me too much rice on the nigiri. I was also very disappointed with the size of the California and spicy tuna rolls. I wished they even have more fish or rice. Lastly was the color of the wasabi. It was more brownish green than vibrant green which led me to believe they didn’t serve fresh wasabi. Now how can they not serve fresh condiments at a sushi restaurant. My friends had ramen and rice dish and both enjoyed their food. Maybe I will have better luck eating non sushi items the next time I am here.

Sushi is fresh but expensive. Happy hour prices aren’t the best either for sushi but i’ll take what I can get. I just started a new job that’s across the street from MOA so I have a feeling i’ll be coming back here and spending more money than I would prefer! I also tried the pork belly ramen and it was pretty mediocre. I didn’t think the pork belly had much flavor, and the soup base was pretty bland too. The pork belly steamed bun was pretty tasty though!

Service was great, food was ultra mediocre. We got a sashimi platter, beef donburi, and a noodle dish. Mostly forgettable. Noodles and rice bowls were greasy. Lacking in flavor. The server was great and very knowledgeable. Probably better than other mall restaurants though.

I’ll start by saying this was the best mall sushi I’ve ever had. Not saying anything bad but I went in with low expectations. As usual I started with the miso soup. It had the salty goodness you want with miso. The sushi, I have to say was pretty good. Not only was I in a mall I was in MN. Again, not saying anything bad about MN but not many oceans around to get sushi quality fish. Service at times was slow but not too painful. If you are craving sushi and you are in MOA make a quick stop and be satisfied.

I have to say I am extremely disappointed in this place. I had heard so much about about another Tim McKee restaurant, and they had poached a Japanese chef from some other well regarded restaurant. Maybe that was years ago, can’t exactly remember but it doesn’t matter either. I’ve been here twice. I have been decidedly unimpressed twice. The only thing I thought they pulled off well was the sushi, maybe that is where the actual Japanese chef’s influence came in? The regular food… bad. Their ramen… mediocre. I don’t know how they ever won awards for it. That is mind blowing. I’ve had better ramen at Unideli in the United Noodles grocery store.lmao. On my last visit I ordered gyuu-don. When they brought it out I felt like I got punched in the face the flavor was so shockingly strong. I mean, WTF? That seems to be their hallmark for all entrée’s, punch you in the face. This is not Japanese food. This is American food being called«Japanese» so they can make you feel like a trendy cool foodie and jack up the price. The service is also bad. I don’t exactly blame the servers for this, I haven’t gotten a rude one yet but they just disappear for extended periods of time. I think they under staff this place, it has to be intentional too because they’ve been operating long enough to figure things out. I don’t recommend this place to anyone unless you’re one of them that eats at places to be seen rather than to enjoy your food.

I think this spot deserves 3.5 stars, as I was blown away by the flavor combos at first, but by the time I was done, I was really done! Since the first thing that arrived was my husband’s mushroom tempura in a steamed bun, I grabbed it and took a huge bite. It was delicious! I could eat several of these — the mushroom was fried but juicy, the bun was soft and fluffy, all in all, this was delightful. Next up was my husband’s beef udon. He thought it smelled odd and I was worried he’d hate it, but after adding his seasonings to it, he fell for it more and more with each bite. Unfortunately, that meant he ate it all, which did nothing to help his stomach when we rode the inside roller-coasters later! Along with this came his order of Crispy Pork Kara Age(ie: super thin fried pork!) And I mean — SUPER thin. I was not impressed by this… there wasn’t even enough pork to taste it inside the breading! For me, I apologize, because if I don’t write something down, I usually forget which rolls I ordered. I think it was either the Masu roll, or perhaps the spicy iwana(as I recall thinking it was rad they had arctic char)… and for my other roll I’m pretty sure I got the firecracker roll. Either way, both tasted good and fresh, though a little went a long way. I tried my best to finish all the shrimp and avocado, but it was rather tough and I was stuffed! That being said, they added jalapenos when I asked them too, so kudos to both the chef and the server for being on point and accommodating. The biggest disappointment was the tamago, which had virtually no flavor at all. Luckily, we’ve learned how to make it at home just recently, so I will no longer suffer from bad tamago… at least, if I do, we can make up for it at home ;)

Pork belly ramen is eh but service was good. Maybe it’s my fault for ordering ramen at a sushi joint but it came highly recommended & I needed the soup. It was kinda bland, there wasn’t any broth, & the egg wasn’t soft boiled– it was runny!!! I would not revisit for this ramen ever again. Pros: it’s a restaurant vs. the other food court options in Mall of America so there was no line & seating was immediately available at the bar. Bartender/server was friendly & attentive. As far as the pork belly ramen goes, the noodles were al dente so that was a plus. Cons: there’s no broth. No broth in my ramen!!! Not cool! The egg was runny in the worst way possible. They need to add bean sprouts or bamboo shoots to this dish cuz something fresh/crispy would’ve been good. There were slices of pork belly that were tough & not flavorful but there was also shredded pork that was bland as well. And there was no broth. I don’t know why they put fish cake slices in here. Not good ramen.

Conveniently located near me so that is the first plus! Their shrimp tempura udon is absolutely yummy, a tad bit salty though. The staff is friendly but the service is almost always pretty slow. Masu is quite pricey for the amount of food you get but it’s a great treat from time to time!

I have been to Masu on several occasions in the past. During my last visit, the service was so bad that I promised myself that I would never go back. But after walking through the third level at the MOA, and after passing chain after chain, I decided to give them another shot. I wish I hadn’t. Masu Sushi & Robata is a small full-service restaurant on the South side of the third level at the Mall of America. There are a ton of dining options at the mall, but on this food wing, almost all of them are sit down chains(Bubba Gumps, Buffalo Wild Wings, Famous Daves, Tony Roma’s, etc.) and fast food(Chipotle, Panda, A&W, etc.). I was in the mood for something different and after reading the menu board touting the«best ramen in Minneapolis,» I decided to give it a try. Before I get to the noodles, I’ve eaten here before and in my opinion: Sushi: It’s ok, but not great. Robata: Small, uninspired, overpriced — even during happy hour Sake: Nice selection. Get it cold. On this visit, I was looking forward to trying to the ramen, but after seeing that all the ramen is served with poached egg(I don’t eat egg), I opted for the beef udon. The udon noodles were very good — firm texture, nice balance. There were some veggies(edamame!) in the broth, which added nicely to the depth of the dish. Unfortunately, the broth itself was VERY salty. Was I drinking heated soy sauce? It came with a side of spices to add to the broth, but I couldn’t imagine adding anything else to it. To make matters worse, the meat consisted of only three slices of beef. The first slice was very good — tender and flavorful. The other two slices, well, they weren’t really meat, just chunks of fat(see picture.) Very disappointing. I also ordered a pork belly bun and a chicken teriyaki bun. Not your typical steamed buns, these are actually little steamed flatcakes, folded over like tacos.(Boke Bowl in Portland does these and they are AMAZING). The buns themselves were very good — warm and chewy. The fillings were good as well. The pork belly was sweet and savory, but the hoison was a touch on the salty side. The chicken was delicious and had kimchi in it — very satisfying. Because I couldn’t finish the udon, I was still pretty hungry afterwards, but didn’t want to order anything else. I had a feeling that things weren’t going to get any better. On the plus side, the service was much better than it was on my last visit. And my beer was nice and cold.
