Mattress Original-Mattress Factory

I was just like you. Looking for a mattress and with no idea where to go or what to do.
Let me say this– when I’m looking to invest in something big like a mattress I do my research and scour the internet for anything and everything. I have researched the differences between memory foam and spring; box spring beds vs platform beds; best beds for back problems– you name it! My eyes ache from all the hours spent looking up stuff on my computer screen and though I still don’t know which bed frame to buy I can safely and happily say that the reviews for this store were right on target.
I drove here during a weekday and Doug was working and he helped me. I must’ve spent 2 hours laying on different beds, comparing prices online until I finally decided on a mattress. Meanwhile, in the couple hours I was there, numerous people dropped in to buy mattresses on the spot. I saw some people just say «hey, I have an old mattress from you guys– I need to buy two more» and just like that– drop hundreds of dollars on new mattresses without even looking at them. I could not believe how many people bought mattresses just like that in such a short amount of time. I think that says a lot about the company as well. The whole time I was just lounging on all these beds and Doug did not mind a bit and would check on me now and then or leave me be if I needed to think.
Well I finally made my choice. I didn’t go with the most expensive orthopedic one I liked but instead went for one a notch under which was the Regency Eurotop plush and it just arrived yesterday and I’m in heaven. Even without a frame yet– just sitting on the floor this thing is so cozy and lovely.
It arrived clean as well. Completely wrapped in plastic which the delivery guys unwrapped for me. They arrived 10 minutes ahead of time too! And though I didn’t really need it– they’ll move your old bed for you as well.
I believe every cent spent has been worth it. I’ve gone with IKEA beds before and have tried them, returned them, tried different ones. I’ve had both memory foam and spring beds from IKEA and will say that not only were they not comfortable at all– but more expensive than this place.
So I’m telling you and I promise– skip IKEA and those other stores, come here. They will have what you’re looking for and you’ll be supporting a local business/​product as well (did I mention they make their own mattresses right here in St. Paul?).

Awesome bed! We had a run of bad beds purchases which made us leary when it came to time buy another. We headed out on a Saturday with a long list of places to go to — so glad OMF was our first stop — didn’t need to go elsewhere!
Doug was such a great resource and made the whole process enjoyable. His knowledge of the mattress industry was impressive — you can tell he’s passionate about it. He objectively explained the differences between OMF’s mattresses and the competitors. We never felt pressured like we have felt in the past at other retailers — just really informed and comfortable.
With his guidance we picked a bed that we’ve loved for the last 3 months. Highly recommended! So happy with it OMF will be our only stop for our next bed purchase.

After a friend referred me to them because they eliminate the middle man and have locally made beds, I decided to check them out myself. By far the most reasonably priced mattresses around… AND also very durable and comfortable! After sleeping on an IKEA bed the past 5 years, this bed is a dream!!! Super happy with my purchase. and would buy from them again in a heartbeat.

Best bed ever! Six years ago we went bed shopping and after learning about beds it was obvious that this place made the best bed for the price. With these beds you can actually flip the bed every few months to both extend the life and comfort. It was a king. A few years ago we needed a new queen size bed. I called up this store, they had our original order and had the same bed created in a queen. I paid for it over the phone. They delivered to our home. So easy. So comfy. Relatives now stay at our place a bit too long because of the bed! You will be impressed by the quality and shocked at the low price. Compared to what you pay for department store junk, this is the best deal in the midwest.

My husband and I searching around a lot on the Internet looking for a new mattress. After finding one we thought we wanted, we decided we would try to actually go to a mattress store and test some mattresses out. We walked into this store and were greeted by Doug. He was so friendly, helpful, and informative. He told us everything we would need to know about each mattress, and was never pushy. He let us make our own decision. We even left the store to think about it and try out a different store. No other store we went to could compare to the service, quality, and price we had found with Doug. We went back within a few hours to order the mattress. The delivery fee was only 50 dollars even though we live 20 miles from the store. The delivery guys showed up on time and were friendly and quick. We have now had the mattress for 2 days, and they have been the two best sleeps of my life.

Doug has helped us through 2 purhcases from OMF — which has been a breath of fresh air after previous purchases from other mattress places in the past. Their service, knowledge AND prices are first rate. Buying from them really is a no-​brainer.

Both myself and my boyfriend are obsessive about researching things before buying them — even more so when it comes to something like a mattress! When we needed a mattress he did a ton of research prior to and he thought Original Mattress Factory sounded the best but we figured we should go to some other places also.
We went to the Original Mattress Factory location in Bloomington and were already pretty certain we had found our mattress but still couldn’t bring ourselves to make the purchase without visiting those other mattress places we had discussed. We did and it was basically a waste of time. Don’t ever bother going to a furniture store, as Jenn L. points out, and I’d even add don’t even bother going to other mattress specific stores. Unless you have the money to buy a wool or organic mattress, this is the best you will find and not only that but the value is MUCH better than other mattress places.
The service was excellent — our salesman was knowledgeable and really helpful. He didn’t try to sell us a bunch of crap we didn’t need. We were planning to make our own platform bed (which we since have done and it is great!) and the salesman we worked with never tried to convince us to get the box spring or any other stuff we didn’t need. If you do want to get a box spring though the Original Mattress Factory has REAL box springs as opposed to the boxes with wood that are used in all other so called «box springs» on the market.
This place is great too because they have a local factory (in Maplewood) so the mattresses are made right in the area! I think you might even be able to tour the factory if you’d like. So for anyone who wants to shop more local, you can even do so when buying your mattress!
The place is a no gimmicks and no frills kind of place, which makes it very awesome, in my opinion. If you really like things to be all «prettied up» with lots of flashy advertising or stuff like that maybe this won’t be the place for you but if you just want a good, affordable, high quality mattress this is THE place to go, I feel!

Like the previous poster, we also worked with Doug today. He was excellent! Super helpful, no pressure, basically just taught us alot about mattresses and why he believes in his product. I got the impression that he has been selling these mattresses for 20 years. We haven’t bought a mattress there yet, but likely will within the next couple weeks. If you are looking for amazing customer service, do NOT go to the furniture stores… go to a mattress-​specific store, and this one in particular.
**Update — about 6 months ago, we purchased a king-​size orthopedic ultraplush from OMF and LOVE it. We are extremely happy with our purchase! It is the perfect combination of firm support and pillow-​top comfort. There is actually a pillow top on both sides of the mattress, so it can be flipped as needed, unlike all the other brands we looked at with pillow tops. The mattress is also hinged in the middle and folds in half for easy transport and moving through doorways. Doug told us that this is how mattresses used to be made when doorways were even smaller. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Doug at OMF and purchasing your mattress here.

after over 12 years of excellent service, my mattress was finally declared dead. it was a regency pillowtop, purchased from the original mattress factory store in edina. since that location is gone, my wife and i trucked down to the bloomington store. salesguy doug was super helpful and able to answer our questions, and provide some advice. i’m still impressed by the original mattress factory’s product, pricing, and employees, hopefully for at least another decade.
