Good food, decent beer. Relaxing atmosphere. Seats were torn(nbd but just wanted to point that out). Honestly don’t remember how our service was, so I guess that’s a good thing.

We love Opie Taylor’s burgers and their house-made chips. Mozzarella sticks are probably the best in town. I personally don’t order their grilled chicken items anymore since I once got one that was undercooked. The mistake was corrected and they were apologetic. I am just concerned about a repeat experience. Plus their burgers are great so why risk it?

After a failed attempt at eating at King Dough, I decided to hit up Opie’s. It’s been a while! Opie’s has always been pretty solid, although my last few visits didn’t make me want to come back asap. Today changed that. Went to Opie’s and had my favorite — a well done bacon cheeseburger. Outstanding! The fries were spot on, and since I ordered mayo with my burger, I got a double treat. Mayo for my burger and for my fries! Between Opie’s and Bubs, I’ll take Opie’s every time. They just make great and simple food. The cherry coke is pretty rockin too. Yum!

Wide selection of hamburgers and other meals. A lot of IU memorabilia. It’s a family friendly sports themed restaurant. The food is delicious especially the hand made mozzarella sticks.

I have always enjoyed going here to eat. Won’t win awards and shouldn’t, but the staff is always friendly and I’ve been satisfied with my food. It can get expensive if you don’t order the right thing. I typically get something off the lunch menu and it’s a great value.

The fries are phenomenal — I would argue they’re the best in Bloomington. The selection of burgers is impressive and most are superb. This really is a great, quaint spot if you’re looking for a good burger, beer, fries, and sports spot.

I would give this restaurant more of a 3.5 star rating. Ate here for the first time today after getting our marriage license! The food was good and there was a good bit of it. We shared cheesesticks, I got a fish sandwich, and my fiancé got a cheeseburger. The service was very friendly, no complaints there. The fish and meat were both of good quality. The burger had a nice charred taste and the fish didn’t have a fishy, frozen taste. However, they and the cheesesticks were pretty plain and underseasoned. The coleslaw I got was good, and I tried one of my fiancé’s buffalo fries and they were good too. Then the bill came, ouch! For the quality of the food(good, but bland) and atmosphere(basically Buffalo Wild Wings with a better view) I would definitely say the restaurant runs pretty overpriced, but that’s not unexpected on the courthouse square. I would be glad to visit again if I had a coupon or if they were having a special!

Just got back from a somewhat mediocre visit to Opie’s. My wife and I decided to stop in for an early dinner late this afternoon. My wife ordered the barbecue sandwich and buffalo fries and I decided to try the Italian beef and buffalo fries. Both of us had soft drinks. The food arrived quickly and everything looked good, although the barbecue sandwich seemed a bit smaller than normal and there were way fewer buffalo fries on our orders than in times past. My Italian beef looked fantastic and the baguette roll was nice and soft. Peppers and au jus were served on the side as advertised. I took my first bite of the sandwich and thought that the beef tasted quite salty. Thinking that a small dunk in the au jus would possibly dilute the salt and even things out a bit, I gave it a shot. BIGMISTAKE. If nothing else it rendered the sandwich almost inedible. I decided to try eating the sandwich minus the au jus and told the waitress that they needed to check in the kitchen to make sure that they avoid selling any more of the over-salted beef and au jus.(At this point I had already eaten about a third of the sandwich and had eaten most of the fries.) I took one more bite of the second half of the sandwich and had to call it quits due to the burning in my mouth from the salt. I set my basket to the side of the table with the remainder of the sandwich. The waitress stopped at our table to give me the check. I filled out the amount of the bill plus tip and waited for her to return to the table with my credit card receipt to sign. At this point I was disappointed at not receiving a slight reduction of my bill, but I was going to let it slide this time. When the waitress returned with my receipt, she then chose to let me know that they chose to toss out the remainder Italian beef after they verified that it was indeed too salty to serve. When I asked if I was going to get a reduction on my bill since I had only eaten a fraction over half of the sandwich, she said that the manager refused since I had eaten over half. What the hell is going on here? I’m not exaggerating when I say that there was only one bite taken out of the remaining half of the sandwich. The fact that they supposedly threw out the remainder of the Italian beef says that they obviously thought that something was seriously wrong with it. The other fact that the waitress didn’t stop back at the table between my initial report of the salty sandwich and the time that she dropped off the bill seems a bit dodgy, too. I think it would have been a lot better if she had stopped over sooner and offered to replace the defective entrée with something prepared normally, but maybe the manager wanted to make sure that I went over the all-too-vital 50% consumption boundary. Whatever happened, I was definitely not happy. So all told I ended up spending $ 28 for 1 ½ sandwiches and two drinks. Tax and tip included I was out about $ 35.(I normally tip 20% or better, but I only went 15% this time due to the somewhat suspect performance of our waitress.) If someone tells you that you can’t get f-ed for under $ 50 nowadays, you might point them towards Opie’s as an exceptional value – but maybe that’s not the answer they would be looking for… I will probably give Opie’s one more try to regain my trust in their restaurant, but if this is the way things are being run now, I don’t know if they will be worth a return visit.

I can’t believe I’ve been visiting Bloomington for years and never been here. We started with appetizers of cheese sticks and fried zucchini. The cheese sticks were huge! The breaking was think, but there was still a lot of yummy mozzarella inside. The zucchini was really special though. It was cut into chips, breaded and fried. They kind of melt in your mouth. I loved them, and so did the baby. For my entrée I had the taco burger with a black bean patty. It was amazing. I’d never thought of putting sour cream on a burger before. It’s probably the best veggie burger I’ve ever had. The hubby had the tenderloin sandwich, and he loved it. He likes that the tenderloin is way bigger than the bun. He says it’s the perfect ratio.

Pleasantly surprised at a recent lunch. Great mozzarella sticks, juicy BBQ-bacon-cheddar-onion burger with just the right burger-toppings-bun ratio. Buffalo chips were a nice change. Service was prompt and nice. Ambience was fun and felt like a well-loved hang-out. We can’t wait to go back and try more of their tasty-sounding sandwiches!

My daughter had a breaded cod fish sandwich so hot it burnt her tongue! We love hot fresh food and Opie Taylor’s will not let you down. Their tenderloin was hot, juicy and delicious! Their homemade chips are to die for without that greasy after taste. Don’t forget the Unilocal discount!

Cool place to get classic American cuisine! Not sure why it feels so much more expensive to me. Their burgers have a nice selection, but not sure if the prices reflect that appropriately and make me wonder if I could eat somewhere similar for a smaller bill.

As per tradition, this place was charming from start to finish. I haven’t been back in years which made the experience that much more enjoyable. The cheese sticks are still a staple I cannot resist, and the burgers are heavenly.

Right there on the courthouse square in Bloomington you’ll find this local gem. Great spot for lunch or casual dinner. The only downside is the local parking meter issues. All spots on the street around the square are metered. They do take debit cards, but still, you’ll probably have to pay to park, so bear that in mind. As for food, Opie’s is a burger and sandwich place. They know what they are and they don’t try to be what they aren’t. That’s a good thing. So don’t come looking for pasta, burritos or wraps, just good burgers, sandwiches, soups and salads. Went in on a Thursday night about 6, seated right away, and then pondered the menu. Our server told us about the soups and specials. I went with the popular Cyndiana Burger. Very good choice(thanks Alex W.) Very tasty and I also liked that the burgers come from the Butcher Block here in Btown, so the burger is high quality to start with. Add bacon, cheese and avocado and you have a winner. I opted for the buffalo fries. They have a little kick but not overpowering. You can get ranch to take the edge off, but I didn’t think that was needed. But I prefer them over standard fries. They are also cut round, not long, if that matters to you. They have recently added a Philly Cheesesteak made from Ribeye, which I would have considered, but they were out of it… so sounds like I’ll be looking for that next time. Also there are several burger choices and chicken choices which are appealing, so you could come here several times and have many different burger experiences. Good service, good food, local spot and supports other local businesses… a winner all around. See you again soon!

Cute place to eat in the heart of Bloomington near IU. I met a friend there before a business meeting for dinner and it was dead. Surprised because its a well-known IU place, however the weather wasn’t so pleasant, probably why. Went with the much-respected Cyndiana burger — definitely caught me off guard at how well avocado goes with bbq, bacon & cheese. Fries weren’t anything spectacular, I was told I should’ve gotten the special seasoning fries. Service was fast & sweet, and the ambiance is definitely IU+ wooden bar+ kitschy.

Looking for a food place late one evening on a Sunday and found only Opie’s open … so we gave it a try. Basically a sports bar with a number of large big-screen TVs, so you can keep up with your sports. As to food — it was ok. The mozzarella sticks were the only a standout. They seem to have the fry thing down, as most of the food was French fried stuff. Chicken wings were large, but a bit on the fatty side instead of meaty. The whole place seems to be run on a shoestring … not much ambiance … bathrooms were old and dumpy. Service was decidedly lackadaisical. But for a Sunday night when not much else is open, this will do just fine for a bite to eat.
