Went here for the Lunch buffet. Meh. Had the typical dishes available. Service was prompt. Place was fairly busy. It was just not that impressive, not spicy enough.

To be honest, I didn’t especially like it. The service was a little slow, and the lunch buffet was limited and everything tasted basically the same. The butter chicken was okay, but there were maybe ten pieces of chicken, which were very small, in the whole dish.

A Friday night and it was packed. We got there and waited 25 minutes while they seated 3 other tables before us even though we got there first. The system is very unorganized; they need a hostess or someone specifically to keep track of customers waiting. They’re isn’t a waiting area, do you just stand there staring at people eat. The service was good and the food was delicious.

My absolute favorite place to eat Indian food in Bloomington. I have been there countless times and it is always delicious. If you are a first timer trying Indian food, try their lunch buffet! You can sample all of the traditional and popular dishes with a few special items thrown in! My personal go to is the chicken vindaloo with garlic naan. It is to die for, truly! The butter chicken is also very good! Their paneer is quite good as well. Finally, the chili chicken is my other must have here. The chicken curry in my opinion is too sweet, but is also a decent choice if you don’t enjoy the super spicy dishes! Enjoy this delicious Indian experience!

Taste of India is not only my favorite place to get Indian food in Bloomington, but my favorite restaurant in Bloomington period. The service is fast and friendly, and the food is amazing every single time. I’ve been to Taste more times than I can count, and I’ve ordered a fair number of different things from the menu, as well as tried the lunch buffet multiple times. Taste of India never fails to deliver on quality and taste. My favorite dishes are the chicken saag, the chicken tikka masala, the chicken vindaloo, the butter chicken, the palak paneer, and the vegetable samosas. All of the naans are delicious as well(I’ve tried all of them), but my favorite is the butter naan and the garlic naan. Taste of India is always guaranteed to satisfy my hunger no matter what!

The foods are great! Chicken or lamb butter and garlic naan are my go to! Their rice is wonderful. Its aromatic and delicious(I can eat their rice only) It’s a nice indian restaurant and is worth to try! Will absolutely come back! I tried this at the restaurant. I did ordered delivery before and I personally think its not as good as if you’re eating at the restaurant, because it gets cold. Anyway, love it!

The lunch buffet is one of the best ways to fall asleep at work for the afternoon. Good food. Decent mix of food. Cash is cheaper than credit card, and with cash this is a very cheap, very filling lunch.

Being here long time ago, very delicious indian food, I love their curry, spicy but not too spicy, their indian bread are crispy, salty and tasty, the amount is a lot, and easy to feel full when order one dish

I really wanted to like this place… I really did. I had already gone to India Garden down the street and though I liked them, I wanted to give this place a try as well to compare and just to explore a little more of what Bloomington had to offer. I called in before I headed over; they assured me I could order items off the menu. I was a little excited. The place was more of a restaurant — a single open room — as opposed to India Garden which was in what looked like a converted house. Even so, it seemed more dimly lit and crowded. The staff seemed nice enough, but less personal. Perhaps that was my downfall — to think that I would have choices. Sure I had a choice — one. One option. While I was seated right in front of the buffet bar. I was the only one ordering off the menu. In their defense, the place was packed since I came during lunchtime and it was the only small table available and I was a party of one. Fine. I can’t blame them. Anyway, I could only get the Aloo Gobi. Though I like my potatoes and my cauliflower, what I love about Indian food are the gravy curries — and that was out of the question here. They apparently pre-make ALL of their gravies and they ALL include onion and garlic. My only choice? The curry spiced, relatively dry-cooked classic Potato & Cauliflower(with some bits of tomato, which I’m glad it had because it gave it that extra tang that the dish otherwise lacked), essentially what Aloo Gobi means. I’ve never ordered Aloo Gobi at an Indian restaurant before, but I guess there’s a first time for everything. Don’t get me wrong — it wasn’t bad, and sure, I could have declined, but I also have a general motto of trying things out. Perhaps the Aloo Gobi would blow my socks off. I stayed and ordered it mildly spicy — it wasn’t really all that spicy. My nose didn’t even feel like it was tempted to run. I didn’t mind, but it was a new concept to me when it came to Indian food, since I’m used to blowing my nose at least once whenever enjoying Indian cuisine. I didn’t even think the Aloo Gobi had much of the Indian spices — did mildly spicy also mean mildly spiced? The food itself was not bad. A good portion size; I guess I was just disappointed at my lack of choices because having just one side dish of mildly spicy(and spiced) potatoes and cauliflower(and the occasional gem of a diced tomato) with plain basmati rice is a bit one dimensional. More on the rice — it was tender and soft to the point that some of the usually long grains were breaking. It wasn’t bad, but… too soft? The basmati I usually get still keep their form. I guess I’ve been spoiled by all those all-vegetarian, Jain-friendly Indian restaurants I frequent. I understand that Bloomington is a smallish college town and being a restaurant, you should appeal to the masses, but also be a bit more flexible. Please? It’s helpful for those who have strict dietary restrictions and are visiting and temporarily have no kitchen to utilize. haha, at least the restaurant is aptly named — Taste of India, indeed. One taste through one dish. ;)

Honestly some of the best Indian food that I’ve had in the U.S. The vegetable Samosas were lite and flavorful, especially with the mint chutney on top. The Malai Kofta was exceptionally good, and actually had a little kick to it. Overall, very good and reasonably priced!

Taste of India is one of my favorite places to eat in Bloomington that is in an affordable price range. There are a few dishes that I’ve learned to avoid(I ordered a lamb dish and wasn’t happy with the quality of the meat, the vegetable Jalfreezi is clearly made from low quality frozen vegetables), but aside from those most dishes are really good. Chana masala is the favorite of both myself and my girlfriend. If we’re not sure what to order, we order that. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because of the quality of some of the produce and the meat. I’ve been happy with everything else.

Wow, it was awesomely delicious! We ordered it «hot» and oh, yes it was! I was crying(okay, not really cry-crying, but eyes watering and sniffling) in between bites of the deliciousness and fanning myself from sweating. My tastebuds were in sensory overload with sheer happiness and bliss. The service was attentive, the atmosphere is quaint. We sat outside on a beautiful Indiana evening and it was delightful. If I lived in Bloomington, I would be a regular. But knowing the food is so good here will give me another reason to visit Bloomington more frequently, and take my kids who are students at IU, to dinner where we can feast together! I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

The Dosa chef was off on a Friday night. Minus one Star. Other than that??? Great atmosphere. Great service. Great food. The place was comfortable and busy. Clientele of different ages from babies to senior citizens. Easily the best most tastiest food I’ve had in the U.S. on this short tour. I had the Vindaloo at it was delicious. Bombay Aloo was also great. I have to recommend the Taj beer. Very good. Do yourself a favour if your visiting Bloomington, Indiana or if you live here and have never had Indian food before. This place is worth a visit.

Hands down the best indian buffet in town. I would never go for dinner as each curry dish is $ 13+ which is way excessive given the portion size, however for lunch if you pay cash it is $ 9 which is a steal for the quality and selection they have. They always have multiple curries, both meat and vegetarian dishes to choose from, definitely keep the buffet fresh and do not wait for it to hit bottom before refilling. Usually not a fan of buffets but this one is definitely the best value given there are about 3 other indian buffets that you can choose from.

Delicious Indian food! We’ve been for the lunch buffet and dinner, we always receive courteous service and enjoy a great meal! The lunch buffet is less than $ 10(even less if you pay with cash; they give a 5% discount for paying with cash on all meals). The lunch buffet is pretty basic Indian food, but done right! The food is rich and the flavors are well developed with multiple spices! You can’t go wrong with the chicken curry or butter chicken. They also serve naan and vegetable samosas, which are incredible! Dinner by the entire is good as well, a fancier atmosphere than lunch. Garlic naan is a must to start off with, the medium curry is about right for me, and then finish the meal with a Mango Lassi! See you there!

Taste of India: Cold Beverages Served Warm After nearly indulging myself in all of their neighbors, there was obligation to at least give Taste of India a lick. But, after the ordeal was done, I hopped, skipped, and jumped out of there and did the walk, err, sprint of sh**ame. Here’s what happened: The server was everything but knowledgeable. In fact, there were three serves, or, one server and two helpers – it was confusing and I didn’t know whom to tip. Even with all of the helpers, my iced Chai wasn’t iced – served warm. Speaking of warm: The glass in which the water was served was a red wine glass and yes, it, too, was served warm, maybe they were out of ice and regular glasses. But, then again, they did just open upon my arrival. Beyond being serviced with warm beverages, the menu was too vast. More does not always equal better. Too much at once is overwhelming. So, instead of having several pages of choosings, stick with the house favorites and fiddle around with seasonal recipes. Too many options creates indecisiveness, and that could be a turn-off. Unfortuneately, that wasn’t the worse part. Here it is: food poisoning. There was a contamination issue. Either someone was playing with raw meat and not using protection, or, something. Regardless, I became very ill. I should have stayed true to my golden rule: If the bathroom is utterly disgusting, get the fack out! In case it were an off day, here is the one good experience: I enjoyed the lamb curry so much that it was nearly offensive. The balance between cumin, coriander seed, turmeric, and the other earthy spices that make up this wonderful dish, rendered my curries flat. Anyway, the spicy level was set to I need milk!, which I enjoyed. The lamb was definitely not frozen. It had such a rich texture and savoriness that if I were to guess its cut, it would be the shoulder. Unfortunately for Taste of India, however, I’m in the market for something more than just good meat and sauce. So, in today’s lesson we have learned: Warm water+spicy curry(although delicious)+warm iced chai+hot, sunny day+food poisoning+inadequate service = not a good time. Thus, 1 star.

It was a beautiful day outside and we were looking for a place to sit outside and eat and Taste of India had plenty of both — seating. And food. I imagine the options in the buffet do not change often, but they are going for the greatest hits here — or the things most people pick and that’s fine. Hey, can’t complain too much. Tandoori chicken, a few chicken curries, a few veggie, different kinds of rice, quite a few salads and chutneys, all for about $ 10. There were no samosas, but that was fine — as adventurous as I am with food often enough, I usually stick to the basics and the buffets deliver. Chicken. Tikka. Masala. And all you can eat! How were there not more college students here on such a nice day. Actually, I think they were all at the place down the street, which I think is a dollar cheaper, but I thought the lunch options here were perfectly satisfying. Service good(of course most of the time you’re getting your own stuff) but plates were taken away regularly(I’m not even a stickler for that, they’re the ones who put up a big sign to use new plates…) and I think once our waiter even said ‘with pleasure sir’ or something like that, which always throws me a bit. I’d go back in a heartbeat. (I do think it’s funny that I’m pretty sure I know of a handful of places called Taste of India, and of course the Indian lunch buffet with many of the same options, but it’s definitely not a point against it. — I go to those places all the time.)
