Okay, the Garret is kind of amazing. And overwhelming. There is just a ton of stuff packed into this gorgeous old building, in/on the many cabinets, drawers, shelves, etc. and it seems the bulk of it is really antique rather than just vintage. For instance, I recently bought a sturdy old ‘50s/‘60s La-Z-Boy office waiting area-type chair there and the very friendly woman who runs the place kept referring to it as a «new» chair and gave it to me relatively cheap. That said, the prices otherwise seem to be a little all over the map. Some stuff I think is really reasonable and she could charge way more for it. Other stuff I can’t believe she has priced so high. Regardless, it’s a great place to check out if you’re into old-but-quality housewares, jewelry, bottles, furniture, Victrolas, lamps, chairs, tables, armoires, art, advertisements and general knickknacks. I noticed lots of art deco and Victorian Era stuff. Unfortunately(for me anyhow, because I care about such things) there isn’t a ton of ephemera in the form of magazines or other paper documents, but she does have quite a hearty selection of vintage adult magazines(Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler, Chic, Oui) and vintage adult novelty paraphernalia and old matchbooks, which are pretty amusing to peruse. Basically, this is a great place for true collectors and for those who just like looking at cool old stuff.
