U-Haul

I used this location to rent a 6×12 cargo trailer to move my son back from college. The staff handled my rental efficiently. There was a bit of a line early in the morning, but things went a little faster after a second worker showed up. They hooked up the trailer for me and made sure the lights worked. The trailer was clean and in good shape. The best part of their trailer rental is that you don’t have to pay extra for mileage like on the trucks.

If I could give them no stars I would.
We scheduled a move online and had a few changes, so the situation was a bit confusing. We canceled the first reservation because we didn’t think we would need it, then made another one, then had to change it (all done online). Since the situation was so confusing, we called the office to make sure that the reservation showed up and was told that everything was fine.
The day of our move comes and we go to the office to pick up our truck only to find that the reservation had been canceled. Of course they had no trucks to give to us until 4pm, which was long after our movers were scheduled. There weren’t any other trucks in the area either. Apparently we weren’t the only ones with issues either as a lot of the other customers in the office were unhappy as well.
The office staff was nice enough, but when it comes down to it, someone messed up our reservation, which threw off our whole day. That kind of disorganization does not make me want to rent anything from that U-​Haul location.

U-​Haul provides some useful services. Here’s what I’ve used them for:
— Refill propane tank
— Install a hitch
— Rent a moving vehicle
I’m having trouble rating this business because I’ve experienced some of the best and worst service here. I’m settling on 2 stars because the good service only would have earned them 4 stars, where the poor service would have been 0.
It’s not that the employees were rude, it’s just that some of them seemed oblivious. One employee had his head resting on his arm on the desk the entire time he helped me. It was like he was my teenage son and I was interrupting him to ask if he was ready for dinner while he was looking at Facebook. If he were my son, I’d have used this as a teachable moment to explain proper manners when talking to someone. I’ll leave that to his manager I guess.

I was in Bloomington helping a family member move and Brian, the General Manager, was an absolute champ. I rented a truck with less than 12 hour notice which he made happen. I bought the specialty boxes and packaging for glassware because the person I was moving sells antiques for a living. So $ 10 per box sounds a little steep but everything survived the move — zero breakage. Also the other guys there were great. Polite and knowledgable when I had a question about a charge on my credit card which ended up being my credit card’s issue — not Uhauls.
