A hidden gem in the high country. Best place to get a REAL top shelf margarita, not the glowing green sugar mix type. The food is fresh and yes cost more than your typical local taco joint but it’s worth it. The shrimp are my favorite along with a burrito that has chicken & chorizo. Do it.

We needed good food and soon! Found it at MICARRETAS on the big road parrallel to the little main street, turning right up hill off of Morris. Anthony was the waiter, and he brought us a sweet creamy dip and a big bowl of salsa with our homemade chip. Ordered a bowl of guacamole — he wheeled over his cart of ingredients and made it right there after asking us what we wanted in it! I had 4 items from the combo list: Chile Relleno, Tamale Carne Asada, Charro Beans(with sausage and bacon, a side salad(quite ample) and a Modelo Negro. My date had the Camarones espciale, tostadas, and burrito. Food was great, Anthony kept us plied with tea and beer, and the whole thing was a bargain — $ 32 with drinks AND the guac. We’re only staying a short time, but we’re going again. Two thumbs up !

The food was very good, but they seriously need more staff. We did have a party of 11 though. Plan to spend a couple of hours. No complaints about the food. Very good freshly made guacamole.

This place wasn’t that bad. I got my usual, a cheese enchilada with refried beans. It wasn’t amazing, but it sure hit the spot. The chips were fresh, the salsa was great, and the waiter greeted our table with a smile. Cool. The décor needs updating. I know this place is in the mountains, but knotty pine walls don’t belong in a tex mex restaurant regardless of where it’s located. Also, I ordered guacamole when we first arrived and it never came. It wasn’t on the bill, so no worries there… but I wanted my guac! It’s the only tex mex in Blowing Rock now that the other place is closed, so I guess it kind of monopolizes the scene. If I’m craving an enchilada while in Blowing Rock will I go here? Probably… but I won’t go out of my way to eat here either.

DO not waste your time coming here. Our waitress was bad. never smiled or even looked u sin the eye. The hostess and our waitress were in their Iphones most of the time. The salsa was terrible as was the food… I could see into the kitchen from my seat and could see all the plates go into the microwave… The food was terrible… the only good thing was the atmosphere. I don’t understand how anyone gave this place a good review… I know good food and this place simply serves the crappy Mexican food with a good atmosphere to people who don’t know good food. …come on people, the salsa was even bad. They also put a bowl of «dip» next tot he salsa and chips that tasted like spice ranch dressing.

Better than expected Mexican food from the looks of the exterior and the local area. I enjoyed a great top shelf margarita and had a delicious vegetarian meal. Husband said his chicken fajitas were good. Our Server Manuel was very friendly.

I’ll have to disagree with the majority here. There were five of us, so I got a good look at quite a few items. The only tasty things were the guacamole dip and the ceviche/shrimp cocktail. The salsa was very bland. They nicely brought out some verde and rojo with a bit more zest. Everything else was just very ordinarly, except for the nachos supreme — which was not so good. It should have been called iceberg lettuce supreme. The first nachos I have ever seen without jalapenos, or any peppers. The waitress was pleasant and efficient.

Glad we stopped into this restaurant on our visit to Beech Mountain. We stayed at a nearby hotel and googled our food options. There were several well-loved chains to choose from but we opted for a local fare with seemingly good reviews. After a short wait to be acknowledged at the door, we were seated and our drinks and chips/salsa came quickly. Both the chips and salsa were good, but I didn’t care for some sort of ranch/cream dip they brought with it. Service was pretty quick. We both got margaritas, which were decent, but nothing special, although the glass was cool. they were actually kind of expensive now that I think about it. We did not get the guacamole that everyone is raving about but it did look delish. Both of our meals were great but kind of costly at $ 11 a plate compared to the amount of food you got. The kids enjoyed their amply portioned, yet really cheap, dinners, though. People complained about the table/leg room in some reviews we read online. They use these heavy duty wood tables with one huge post holding it up in the middle that makes it hard to sit right in front of that post. But the benches you sit on are huge. You have plenty of room to sit back, but you’d be a little far from the table. My kids had a hard time knowing what to do… sit all the way back or on the edge?! My only complaint would probably be the wait time to be acknowledged/greeted, and then the manager bringing the food out but then never following up or asking us how it was, even when he collected our payment. We even passed him on the way out and he seemed to be finishing his cigarette break and he didn’t seem to be much of a people person. Otherwise, we’d highly recommend this place!

After just returning from a trip to Dallas, where we had some pretty ‘ho hum’ Tex-Mex’ food at El Primo’s on McKinney Ave., we were pleasantly surprised at our first meal at this newly opened restaurant a scant 2 miles from our house. The guacamole is custom made at your table with ingredients of your choosing. The chips are crisp and the tea was really really sweet. I had their chili rellenos which were huge. These were quite crispy unlike some that come to your table soggy and slimy. The price was right too; three for $ 7.98. I am so stuffed right now that I don’t think I can ever eat again. We also had beef tacos that were quite spicy and the meat was tasty and did not have that ‘mystery meat’ taste I have encountered at other Mexican Restaurants. All in all, I was encouraged by our first outing to Mi Carreta’s and hope that it gets enough local support to be successful in this town that is full of fickle diners and hampered by 5 months of off season. The restaurant has been totally gutted and redone with attractive tile work. Give it a try!
