I recently hosted a bridal shower for my sister and we had the event catered by D’Masti. The food was excellent. We ordered a bunch of small sandwiches and appetizers. Everything was fantastic. We also hired someone to help out with the event and serve the food. Her name was Mary Cuttingham and she was excellent. She said that when you cater with D’Masti you can ask for her by name. She was so professional and helpful.

D’Masti recently catered our wedding (80 guests) at the University of Chicago (in the Ida Noyes theater room). Working with D’Masti was effortless and met all expectations. My new husband and I are vegetarians and many of our guests have other dietary restrictions, so we had complex needs. However, D’Masti was very accommodating of our needs and created a delicious vegetarian dinner menu with plenty of vegan and gluten free options. They also provided us with a great beer and wine beverage service.
The caterers seemed to know the venue very well, handled all conceivable logistics, decorated our tables with rose petals we provided, lit and arranged candles (some provided by us, some provided by them), and served a delicious buffet meal.
They also went out of their way to make my groom and I feel comfortable, keeping an eye on the fullness of our beverages and alerting us when food and cake were ready to be consumed.

I’ve never used the catering service, but i’ve gotten food to go twice now, the first time i got the destroyer sub, which was really good, and had a lot of meat, and then the 2^nd time i got the italian sausage and beef combo sandwich, with provolone on top, it was real big and good, i also got the potato salad, which was all right, not great, and 2 of their cookies which were also really good, reasonable prices too, and just a different sandwich option in the beverly morgan park area other than mr sub, which is definitely not as good as this, id def love to try some of their other sandwiches

D’Masti Catering ROCKS! Kathy helped to coordinate and execute my sister’s backyard wedding. Her professionalism, knowledge, and friendly service were beyond our expectations!
The food was AMAZING, arrived on-​time as promised and did not disappoint! She even had gluten-​free options which were fantastic!
We will absolutely be using Kathy in the future. Regardless if your event is small or large, D’Masti will get the job done! Thank you Kathy and team!!!

One of my favorite hidden sandwich shops on the south side of chicago. While there isn’t seating here, it’s a great place for a quality sandwich or salad, and great soups. They also sell specialty items like dips, cooking sauces, etc. my favorite sandwich is the turkey with cranberry sauce, it’s like having a mini thanksgiving dinner leftover. Also their cream of chicken and wild rice is amazing and they sell it by the container as well as by bowl.
This place also offers catering for any event and they BBQ on the weekends during the summer. A must go to if you’re in the area.

I used to LOVE going here for the smoked turkey sandwiches UNTIL I decided to branch out via «one of the female owners» suggestion. She asked me had I tried the oven roasted turkey and I replied no. She highly recommended it and since she was one of the owners, I felt she knew what she was talking about. In addition to that, she stated they sell a lot of it EVERY day. So, with that said I ordered it with extra meat. YUCK!!! It had no flavor, tasted like the turkey had just been caught, plucked, sliced and served. I called her back with my concerns and you would had thought I asked her for her first born child. Her customer service attitude was HORRIBLE! She nastily told me,” I should had told her I had never eaten turkey breast before and it was my fault that I ordered extra meat.” She stated she could not make good on her word and allow me to get another sandwich exactly like the one I ordered with a different meat (I paid $ 10 for that sandwich). Also, she said it was nothing she can do about it and instructed me to throw my $ 10 sandwich in the garbage. However, if there was something wrong with it, she could exchange it. REALLY??? Well, there was something wrong-​it tasted awful. It took me 10 minutes of going back and forth with her before she decided to give me a half sandwich and a small cup of soup. LOL-​the half sandwich had only 2 slices of meat. At that point I did not trust her because she might had done something to my sandwich (it was already prepared, wrapped in paper and placed in a plastic bag before getting there) SO I DID NOT EAT IT!!! I felt, even if I was the first person EVER to have an issue, as a loyal customer, there should NOT had been an argument nor a discussion. As the owner, she should had offered me another sandwich of my choice and not that of an attitude of: «we took your money and there is no refund or accommodations.» I felt she could had handled that situation better and if she’s not capable of that then let one of the other owners do it.

I am on my second work trip to Blue Island and this has become my number one place to come for lunch. I am a creature of habit and always get their Veggie/​Hummus wrap, but everything on the menu looks fantastic. Very fresh and delicious! Call ahead option if you are interested or in a rush. No inside seating but picnic tables out front for when it’s nice!

Having worked with you on the many events you did at the Chicago Cultural Center, I was sure you were the right caterer for the job. Good food, slightly overpriced that I would let slide if the service didn’t completely kill it. Come here for lunch and the people running it are rude and unfriendly. Once I orded a panini over the phone (which is basically a glorified grilled cheese) and when I got there to pick it up, had to wait another 15 minutes because they seemed to have made it wrong (although they gave me know excuse, just said it was coming up.) When I got it back to my place, it was cold and the cheese wasn’t melted. How many people does it take to make this right? They’ve hired some people who seem outside the family that are really good at giving service, but the problem people still remain. I’d rather order JImmy Johns down the street, or carry out the countless Mexican and CHinese restaurants around the block.

D’Masti’s catered my wedding a few weeks ago and I am beyond pleased with the service and food that was provided. The food was amazing and everyone at the wedding made a comment to me about how great the food was. The servers were very polite and everything went smoothly. Dan Mast is a joy to work with and stayed almost the entire wedding to oversee everything. I truly do not have a single complaint. They were awesome as was their food.

Someone asked me how my Unilocaling was going and added «you should try D’Masti in Blue Island.» It’s one of those places that’s a gem and you probably will never hear of it unless someone tells you about. If you came across it on Unilocal you would skip over it thinking it was just a caterer.
This place is a holdover from when this area had a big Italian population. Stefanellis, another Italian deli in the area, has closed down.
Good selection of hot and cold sandwiches including such unique sanwiches as pepper and egg, bologna, muffaletta, cheese or egg salad. I also notice the chicken caesar salad is a popular item. I got an Italian beef with a side of cole slaw. The signature item on the menu is the potato salad which is only a buck for a small serving.
There are no seats inside but there are picnic tables outside. If the weather is nice sit outside and get a classic Italian sandwich, perhaps a mozzarella with tomato and basil. Wash it down with some Orangina or Italian lemon soda.

I use to go to D’Masti’s for lunch at least once a week. I love supporting local businesses and they only use quality ingredients for the soups, salads, and sandwiches.
However, last time I went, an employee tripped in the kitchen and knocked one of the cutting boards onto the floor. Another employee picked it up and placed it on the prep sandwich station. I then saw a few sandwiches made on it, without the bat of an eye (they were very busy). After paying for my meal, I asked to speak with the manager. I told her I loved coming there, but I was a bit turned-​off by seeing sandwiches made on a cutting board which had been dropped on the floor. One of the employees decided to start arguing with me and said I got the wrong impression. They have a very small kitchen, it is very visible to the customers, and there is no way I could have been mistaken.
I also work for a business in the area who hired them for a catering event and they served outdated cream with the coffee.
This could be an outstanding place to get some great food, but I wouldn’t risk it again.

Quickly becoming my go-​to Blue Island (take-​out) lunch spot. Plenty of options, including hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, salads, pastas… daily specials are always solid. Fresh, quality ingredients easily satisfy the lunchtime appetite. My favorite has to be the roasted red pepper hummus and veggie wrap; add some hot giardinera and your set. Pasta, potato, and veggie salads are made fresh and seasoned appropriately. Only thing that missing is a few tables to dine inside. Easy to imagine this place filling up should some chairs and a waitress/​waiter being added. Oh, and you get plenty for your buck. You’re hard pressed to be hungry after a D’Masti sandwich or ½ pound side. As stated earlier, easily becoming my go-​to place for lunch in the area.

D’Masti’s made the most fabulous quiches for a girls’ weekend with about 18 hours notice. All the gals raved about them. I truly appreciated the fast turn around and the high quality. I would definitely order from again.

Catering or carry out, D’Masti is good food, good service, and GREAT potato salad!
Located just south of Chicago in historic Blue Island, Illinois, is truly a family-​run operation. Dan Mast, now in his 80s, still comes to work, and his family carries on the tradition working both the catering business and the deli.
The potato salad… well, it’s the stuff fiends are made of. «Homemade» but better. Bring some to a party to guarantee an invitation to return… as long as you bring that potato salad!
Well known for their catering, it’s something of an insider secret that they have a small deli that does fantastic sandwiches for carry out. They post daily specials so be sure to check their website or the fb. When you’re in the area, drop in and give their sammies a try. They recently remodeled the deli area and it’s looking good. If they had a few seats to sit and eat in I’d probably go 5 stars.

I recently used D’Masti for a catering event at UChicago. I was very pleased with their promptness and service, and the quality of food was a more than what I paid for. I’m very appreciative to Dan Mast for working with my budget and making an appearance at my event to see how things were going.

I have used D’Masti Catering for large 500 and small 25 events and have always been pleased with their food and service. Our friends hosted their home wedding in their hanger and it was beautiful and memorably delicious!

How has no one reviewed this place, but the mediocre taco places get so many reviews?
So not only do they cater, but there is also a full deli inside. You can get deli meat sliced there along with a ton of different salads, but they also make fresh soups and sandwiches. And cupcakes and cookies– oh the damage this place has done to my diet.
Unfortuntately on of the bad storms this past July damaged the roof so the deli was closed, but have no fear– they took out a catering grill and some tables and a tent and set up an outdoor grill with burgers, and brats, and a tasty chicken sandwich.
I’m eagerly anticipating when they reopen the deli so I can get some freshly fried potato chips.
They catering service offers catered holiday dinner as well. For around $ 150 I got a turkey, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and potatos to feed 10! I just had to pick it up Thanksgiving day around noon and voila! Dinner was ready! Saved this girl hours slaving over a hot stove! You can even order pies and other desserts to go with it. Order the catering and tell your family you cooked the entire dinner!
