I would give this place a high four or five. But the restaurant needs updated and the service was horrible. We went there for a birthday. We went and sit down at the bar while we waited on our friends. They had no one tending the bar and we had three employees come to the bar and get drinks and not one asked to help us. The food was great only plus side price and portions were good sized only place that serves rice and noodles.

This is the only hibachi place that doesn’t make me sick. Their food is always amazing, best noodles I’ve ever had. Sure the staff isn’t super sociable, but they’re not rude by any means. The chefs are hilarious and fun, I always give them a huge applause. Sometimes I get take out too and it’s still always so good. They have this amazing Victoria’s Secret roll that’s a must have! Plus they’re so cheap if you go during the wee for lunch!

Great food and service. The only thing I would like is if they were more clean but it’s not horrible I got to walk right in one day and eat without waiting.

I love it here! The service is awesome and food is delicious. Best hibachi around. The California rolls are to die for.

I love a good hibachi. This was not one of them. Hubby and I both had fish. He, the salmon and I the perch. The food was very salty, and this was determined before putting any sauces on the meal. I do not use the yum yum sauce but did try the ginger sauce and while it was nice on the fish it was VERY thick so did not use much of it. The meals come with fried rice AND noodles, which surprised me and the amount of vegetables served are rather sparse. The fish portion was generous for both of our meals.

Am visiting the area and was hoping for a good Japanese meal; instead, I found my meal to be pedestrian at best. The chicken Katsu was not as crisply done as it should have been nor did the Katsu sauce have any zing. Tried a spicy tuna roll for an appetizer and found it a bit chewy and not very spicy and the wasabi was less than zesty. Overall, a less than satisfying meal

Service was seriously lacking. No refills on drinks and they didn’t clear dirty appetizer plates when we were done. The hibachi was extremely salty, the sushi was not fresh, and the sushi rice was crunchy. All 4 people in our party left with a stomach ache.

***DONOT eat at Asuka Japanese Cuisine in Boardman, Ohio. *** I just had glass in my mouth because of them and may have swallowed some. I was there for dinner, took a sip of water, and when I closed my mouth I bit something hard. I spat it out, thinking I’d broken a tooth, only to find tiny shards of glass in my hand. Upon further investigation my boyfriend and I found more shards of glass at the bottom of both our drinks. When the manager came over, we told her it must have come from the ice trough. At first she tried to tell me it was salt, which I quickly told her, «NO, it was I my mouth and hand. It was definitely glass.» She told us, «oh, sorry. I can give you a 10% discount.» And then walked away. They did nothing to check where the glass had come from and kept on serving customers from the same beverage station and ice trough. I’m extremely disappointed because I liked their food, but what I experienced tonight was irresponsible and potentially dangerous.

The sushi is amazing! The hibachi was also to die for. I went here with my mom and they were understaffed so we had to wait a little bit longer. The staff gave us free edamame and tempura fried ice cream for waiting :) The chef at the hibachi table even squirted saki into people’s mouths! It was so much fun! I will being going here for my birthday and I can’t wait!

Probably the worst dining experience I’ve had in the area. I didn’t review after the first horrible experience I had. I chalked it up to bad luck. We were completely forgotten about. No refills on drinks. My pod came and then 15 min later my fiancé’s food came. I waited for her so we could eat together and then my food was cold. Nobody came to check on us the whole night. My food sat for so long that our waitress brought me a to go box… that’s how she realized my fiancé didn’t receive her food. Bill came, no apology, no free items, nothing got comped. I wouldn’t go back here ever again, not even if my food was free. Truth be told, I didn’t want anything for free. I just wanted to be done with the experience about 15 minutes in. They don’t care about you there. It’s the only time in my life I didn’t tip. It wouldn’t have been earned. Go to Sawa instead. They aren’t perfect but the food is better and they pay attention to you there.

went here for the first time tonight with my relatives. It was just okay. I got the filet and lobster combo; lobster was a little overdone, rubbery, and over seasoned. I asked for my filet to be med-rare and the chef made it just medium. it still tasted good, but it wasn’t what I ordered. Rice was good, shrimp was delicious. This wasn’t horrible, but Ive had better Hibachi-style dinners. the atmosphere was also a little dingy and off-putting.

For Youngstown, the sushi is good. I had the Asuka roll, sunshine roll, and California roll. As an appetizer, I ordered fried calamari(which was the biggest I had ever seen) and miso soup(which was kind of bland, not the worse miso I’ve had but not the best either) The service wasn’t terrible although they weren’t too busy.

Went on a Tuesday night for our daughter’s birthday. It was not busy and we were seated right away. Drink order was taken, two adult sized waters, a child’s Diet Coke and a child’s water for a 2 year old. When the drinks were brought out, the 2 year old’s water was huge and full with a flimsy disposable lid on top of a heavy plastic cup. Anyone with small children understands what a pain this can be. We then ordered our food. Three hibachi dinners, two California rolls and one yummy roll. When the soup and salad came out, the server sets my hot soup directly in front of the 2 year old. No sense whatsoever. The chef came out to cook in a very timely manner and had the dinners going in no time. He was ok… Standard hibachi entertainment but not the best. Didn’t do a lot of the tricks these chefs normally do. The food was all pretty good. The steaks were cooked as specified and the chicken was tasty. The shrimp was good as well. The rice was a bit salty though. Noodles and vegetables were good. As we were finishing dinner, we realized that we had never received our sushi. Apparently the server never even rang it in. Our daughter was very disappointed as she loves sushi, but we were not having sushi after the meal. What a shame. I was really looking forward to that. The atmosphere was severely lacking. Overall we were disappointed. We will not be going back.

The food is pretty good, sushi is great. The service on the other hand lacks. Your lucky if they come to your tables to refill your drinks more then twice. I feel like its a get in and get out type of service

This place is filthy. Look at the sushi bar counter and glass. Look at the floor. If this is what the dining room looks like, imagine what the kitchen looks like.

Asuka has really gone down hill since its opening. The interior is filthy and shabby, as though the owners don’t care one bit. Makes me wonder what other things are not up to quality. The sushi is hit or miss. But for the price they charge it should be much better than it is. The hibatchi is always the same tricks, nothing new. Food is ok.

Great place for sushi and hibatchi. They get busy so there is a wait sometimes. The sushi we ordered has always ben excellent. The prices are reasonable and the place is generally clean.

Went here on 03.13.2010. The place was really busy, and there didn’t seem to be enough staff to adequately take care of the number of diners there, but they did an OK job. Had the shrimp & scallop combo dinner. It was good, not great. The noodles were a nice touch, whereas other Japanese/Teppan places only serve fried rice. Although the portion of fried rice they give you is very small. My wife had the scallop & chicken combo. Same thing… small portion of fried rice, and the chicken was dry.(Although the chicken was probably dry because the cook kept it on the grill while trying to flip a small piece of chicken in everyone’s mouth around the table). I could do without the chicken-toss and the onion volcano, both of which are present here. Asuka is a bit on the expensive side, but so are other Teppan places. And they definitely don’t give you enough fried rice. This place isn’t bad, but if you live in the Mahoning/Trumbull County area, this is how I see it… 1. Tokyo House(Youngstown) 2. Yamato’s(Warren) 3. Asuka Letter Grade: B–

I went here because (the local newspaper site) had 30 reviews for this place and everyone gave it five stars. The experience was pleasant. The place is not Japanese-owned but the sushi tasted ok. The fish were of decent quality. The takosu that we ordered came with a light cube decoration that changed colors. The takos tasted fresh but I was a bit concerned about the cleanness of the light cube even thought it made the dish looked cool. The different rolls were tasty. I recommend the Iso roll because it tastes very refreshing. I also tried Naruto and Crazy Dance rolls. The place is slightly more expensive than other local affairs but given that we were eating seafood at a place not by the ocean, I suppose it’s forgivable. I didn’t order any cooked stuff so didn’t share the experience of the previous reviewer. I am giving it four stars because there nothing disagreeable about the food or service(other than the questionable light cube). starts everyone at 5 stars then subtracts from it. I decided to conform to the standard. Try this if you are craving Asian food. This may be your best option in this area.

Yes, the dreaded downgrade(as my man Jay L in Jax would say). It had been about a year since I was there and the place had changed some. Had a mean hankering last night for some sushi because it had been since Hawaii(way too long). The place just felt unclean, like the tile floor in the kitchen used to get on Friday’s all-you-can-eat fried clam night at Ho-Jos on Belmont in 1978. But this was out in the main dining area. The bathroom was equally dirty, making washing my hands kind of an endless endeavor. The service was very good(as usual). Prices have gone up. The sushi quality on the Love Boat was decent as in the past. It wasn’t enough to keep me away, but with a recent recommendation on Yamato in its new Niles location, a return to that old haunt will probably come first.
