Outdoors, music, community and free — yes please! I missed the series last year, so was glad to pop down for the kick off this year. They ID, so be prepared, or sneak thru any of the other non-manned entrances. They have a couple bands and beer tents. The lines get long, so be prepared to stand in line while listening to your free music. It’s a nice area, closed off from traffic and great way to give the middle of the week a bit more of somehting interesting.

This use to be cool but this summer they ruined it by trying to bring in big biz and they down sized the beer booth to one. They should’ve kept it small and not expect big money from it.

So you think Boise is just a small hick town in bumfuck Idaho. Au contraire! Downtown Boise is a hip and happening place these days… thanks to all of the white flight Californians who have moved there and have californicated this once upon a time small, sleepy town. If you’re visiting and looking for something fun to do during the summer months of June through September, then check out Downtown Boise’s Alive After Five Concert Series at the Grove. It tends to be a little meat market-ish, but everyone who’s anyone is guaranteed to be there. It’s a great place to grab a bite to eat, get a few drinks in you, listen to some local bands, dance the evening away, and people watch! Alive After Five is the single most event that will allow you to really experience the local flavor. Boise is the new Portland.
