Fish is awful, and customer service is rude but for a Chinese buffet it’s the best one iv been to in idaho!

Best Chinese I’ve had in Boise so far! Great selection. I moved here from NC almost 2 years ago and the first couple places I went to were HORRIBLE! I was so glad when I found this one. We like to eat there on Sundays usually after church!

My favorite Chinese buffet place! We usually come here Sunday lunch because of the seafood ~ crab legs, shrimp, clams, squid etc and they have better choices than China grand! They have some sushi too, not too fancy but it’s still ok. You can do stir fry etc. I just hope parents are being considerate & not let their kids serve by themselves(which is the rule btw) so not to mess the food. If you want to stuff yourself & not spend so much then come!

I love this place for a Chinese buffet! It has over 200 items to choose from. And the quality is great! This is my favorite Chinese buffet in Boise hands down.

Lots of Asian food options but very little flavor among the choices. The one stand out is the very salty soy sauce. Unfortunately, the remaining dishes of fresh cut fruit, soy sauce, chicken special, sushi, and fried won ton, left no impression. This reviewer may have missed the mark though as this restaurant was quite busy. Three stars for the waitress who brought the drinks, and checked in with our table for any needed refills.

This is a typical large Chinese buffet common in most places we have visited. Food is meh, but it is a large buffet so the quest is to stuff yourself. There is a very good variety of food with a small selection of sushi, but several flavors or real ice cream. Several of the foods were not warm — I do not know if they heat the trays or they just sit there. The place is serviceable though not real clean. There were very few Asian customers(hint: for authentic and good Chinese food, go to a restaurant with lots of Chinese customers). There were many large groups and the atmosphere was party with a feeding frenzy at times at the food trays. I even saw one guy with a plate full of ice cream — probably at least half a gallon’s worth. If you want gourmet food, go somewhere else. If you want to stuff your face, this place works — very good value.

This was by far the better visit that we have had here! My favorite thing of all are the sesame balls! It wasn’t overly packed on the night we went. Our waitress was great, she took great care of us. The buffet was actually the best I had seen it. The fresh fruit was good along with the dinner items. I will say their stir fry green beans are not as good as China Grand Buffet’s but they were good! The squid was great along with the various chicken dishes. This visit satisfied our craving for chinese!

you get what you expect from an all you can eat chinese buffet, which is not much. The food is just so so, most looks dried out from sitting too long, the sushi was low grade(again what do you expect). i did think the service(drinks) was good. The little girl working the tables had only been in the US for 6 weeks, had a big smile and was happy to be working, no matter what she was doing, that makes you appreciate what we have even more. not much for atmosphere, very loud, open dinning area. for desert, they do have a larger selection and you can actually scoop ice cream from tubs like baskin robbins… so interesting. So, if you’re looking for really good food, go elsewhere, if you’re looking to eat till you’re bloated and have some good service… you might as well try it out

All I can say is that they don’t live up to their promises over Free meal because you have to have 10 punches on one card and not a multiple cards which can be combined. It’s ridiculous that they wouldscrew somebody over for a $ 10 meal I highly recommend you spend your money someplace else

Good chinese food is not a thing in Boise. As much as I want to eat at buffets, I don’t, simply because I don’t want to spend ten dollars to eat greasy noodles and deep fried things covered in questionable sauces and be hungry and/or vomiting very soon after. True story. But there are times that I cannot resist my chinese food cravings. So after scouring Unilocal for reviews(There has to be something better than Great Wall!) I decided to try City Buffet. Now, this is a place that I drive past frequently, but never would have entered based on the outside appearance alone. My husband and I went on a Sunday around 12:30. The place was reasonably full, but not packed, and we were immediately seated. Our waitress took our drink orders and we went to the buffet. I don’t pay attention to what I eat a buffets, I just eat. There were many different choices on all spectrums — the basic chinese restaurant dishes like Gen. Chicken etc, fried foods, seafood, desserts, even a sushi bar that had more than just a california roll. I enjoyed most of what I ate. The friend rice seemed a little off to me but it wasn’t unedible. My husband said he liked it. The piece of sushi I had(said it was cooked salmon) was very fishy, but I don’t go to chinese places to eat sushi. Nothing was overly greasy, nothing was cold or seemed like it had sat out too long, all the empty trays were quickly replaced by the staff and my empty plates were removed after each trip. I think going during lunch time was key. I’ve had too many late night buffet experiences to know that chinese food is not good after it’s sat. The sunday lunch price was 10 bucks compared to the 7 it is during the week. Overall not a bad experience — I could definitely see myself eating here again.

WOW! My first review doesn’t make any sense whatsoever, and it is probably due to the fact that eating here can make you stupid. I’m really upset that I can’t find a China Buffett here in Boise, real upset. There really isn’t anything better than a buffet, especially when it involves Chinese food. MMMMM, general chicken, MMMMM, stir-fry. My mouth is already watering… but not for City Buffet. I rather go to Wal-Mart and grab the frozen general chicken and heat it up in a microwave. Not too mention how terrible the food was, the service was terrible too. «Can I get some water?» echoes around the room. Trust me, save your $.

I certainly don’t frequent buffets as much as I used to, thanks to my recent change in diet. But I can tell you that for many years, I ate at far too many of them. So for better or for worse, I can consider myself a bit of an «expert» on the subject. I thought it would be appropriate then to add City Buffet to my list of reviewed experiences here in the Boise area. And I will summarize by saying that for an Asian buffet, City Buffet gets the job done, but you won’t walk away astounded. It used to be the case that things like a Mongolian style BBQ or sushi offerings would make an Asian buffet stand out from the crowd. Nowadays however these are almost«standard features» at this style of buffet, and that is the case at City Buffet. The reason I mention it specifically is that if you really want to get the best«bang for your buck» and also likely the freshest food available, sticking to the sushi and BBQ is your best bet. This is food that hasn’t been sitting under heat lamps or stewing in sauce for who knows how long. And honestly for a buffet, the sushi is pretty good. The rolls are standard, and don’t really vary from day to day or chef to chef, but they are tasty. So this is where I would recommend you«fill up.» The other offerings are your typical Asian buffet fare… all the usual suspects are here; bourbon chicken, broccoli and beef, fried rice, lo mein, etc. If you’re looking for the usual«Americanized» Chinese dishes, you will find them all here. You also have a decent selection of cold salads and fruit as well as dessert. So overall there are plenty of choices here. But again, it is all fairly standard and doesn’t really impress. In terms of service, City Buffet is a little hit and miss. Some days I have had good experiences where my drinks are refilled quickly and my dirty plates disappear… other times I’ve almost died of dehydration and suffocated under a stack of dishes. Ok, slight exaggeration but the point is that the service here is rather inconsistent. This also applies to the food stations. Some days they are clean and well stocked, other days you will find old dried out pans. Just have to take your chances a little bit in this regard. So overall if you’re looking for an Asian buffet, City Buffet will get the job done. It won’t knock your socks off, and you probably won’t book a return visit in advance, but it will fill your belly at a decent price.

Possibly the worst dining experience I have ever had. This place is the closest thing you can get to human dog food. It’s incredible to me that people actually ingest this food. It’s too bad that Idaho does not rate restaurants with a A, B, C like California because this place would get a D for Dirty Disgusting Dog Food. From the quality of food, service, price and ambience this place takes the cake and when I say cake, I mean all patrons truly enjoy lots and lots of cake. :-) If you like kids having their way with your ice cream dessert with their grimy hands or people sneezing on your food or even the frozen pizza they claim to make. This is your spot! I could go on for days with this review but before reading my 1 star review, I’m sure you already see«buffet» in the title and this isn’t the Bellagio.

Good quality(but don’t forget it is a buffet!) and a wide variety. Price is decent, 14.50 or so for two adults to have lunch. They also seem to really have a thing for krab, which is okay with me as I like surimi products but I could see others not digging how often it’s used in various dishes. Portions are generous, specifically the skewered pork and whatever you call those cream cheese filled things, some places in the valley can really skim on those areas but not here. Nice place for a quick lunch.

I was nervous for the quality of food considering that the price was so low(lunch buffet on Sunday is $ 10). They advertised sushi, hibachi, seafood, etc. They did not disappoint! The food was actually great! The management was OUTSTANDING! When paying, I noticed my wallet was missing out of my purse. The manager assured us that she has a camera view on every table in the restaurant. She took the time to review the cameras for my table. They were so kind, helpful and having full sets of cameras as a restaurant is a rare plus. I will definitely be returning because the food was wonderful and the staff very exceptional.

I have been told this is one of the best Chinese buffets in all of Boise. Most of the entrée items were pretty fresh, but it’s still a buffet. Some items were winners and there’s always plenty of losers. So why give this place such a high rating? Homemade brittle. They make Chinese style peanut brittle. By the sheet. It’s so delicious. I’ve never been to a place that makes it in house. My mom bought a pound just to take home. Service was slow at the Mongolian BBQ station but the staff cleared plates off out table very quickly. If I come back I do want to come for lobster night. Only served at dinner on the weekends.

Is this upscale gourmet? No. It is decent food at a great value. When you’re in the mood for a Chinese buffet in the Boise area, this one is the best. Here’s where they beat the competition: — Peel & eat shrimp are large and cooked properly. — Mongolian BBQ includes shrimp that are already peeled — Sushi area includes seaweed salad! — Nice offerings(yummy ribs) at the grill area. — Great chicken wings! They’re big and taste great. — There’s no upcharge for Saturday lunch. — There’s plenty of food turnover, so nothing sits there long and we haven’t encountered empty food trays, either. There’s always room for improvement. Here’s what Dad & I would like to see: — Thinner wonton wrappers on the wontons for wonton soup. The dough is way too thick. — Tako salad available at the sushi area.

We’ve been back a few times since our last visit, and service and food quality have steadily declined. They aren’t very attentive unless they are trying to rush you out the door. We don’t eat a lot even though we’re at a buffet but we do prefer taking the time to chew our food before swallowing. I know, how rude of us, right? No worries, City Buffet. Keep it up and you won’t have to worry about clearing room for incoming customers. There will be plenty of empty seats to fill. As for the food, the seafood delight is no longer a delight, which leaves the rolls as the only item I actually like… and I can get those at the Golden Corral.
