I’ve come here on a couple separate occasions for business meetings. And, like the mismatched furniture(charming in its own way), my experience has been a bit of a mixed bag. The service is top notch. Truly. Both times, we were greeted with smiles and complete friendliness. One of the days was actually National Coffee Day and when I asked if they were having any deals for the day(they weren’t), the barista offered to give me and my companion $ 1 off each of our beverages! Totally unnecessary – over-the-top lovely customer service. The shop is actually quite large(larger than it really looks from the outside). There’s plenty of tables for groups of all numbers. There’s free wi-fi, so a decent place to get a little work done and not a bad place for a business meeting over coffee cups. The coffee is solid. It’s perhaps a little weak and their mochas a little sweet for my taste – but, definitely not bad. Both times our coffees(all around) were incredibly hot. Like, burn-your-tongue-don’t-even-think-about-sipping-it-for-10-minutes, HOT! But, once cooled, they weren’t half bad. And, hey – they have a salted caramel mocha! Autumn in a cup!

First time i went there, i just got coffee. I like their coffee. On Saturday I went for the first time to eat. It was around 2pm. We ordered 4 sandwiches, coffees, smoothies, brownies. About $ 40 worth. First the guy made the hot coffees and we realized he was alone to cook and ring. Then he went to make our sandwiches. About 15 mins wait. Coffee cooling off. Then he made my iced coffee and then the smoothie. Well, coffee was cold by then he offered to make a new one but we just wanted to leave. Our surprise was the sandwich, a tough crust and 1 slice of ham and 1 slice of cheese for $ 5.45.

My visit here was a mixed experience and as a reviewer I hate when places get simple things wrong:( A group of 4 of us came to Moxie Java to have a business meeting, we knew they had a big open space and plenty of tables.(Meeting w 4 people feels cramped and noisey at a Sbux).
I notice first the furniture is all mismatched, you sorta feel you are on the sales floor of the youth ranch. We opted to sit up on the elevated couch and table area, quickly realize the couches are stained and dirty. Another eye sore is the old style Big Screen TV caked with dust and dirt to match it’s age(no excuse for that). ***My least favorite thing about my experience is when we ordered, the menu chalk board as in the pictures is BEHIND you. It was very awkward when people have to turn around and have you move so they can see and point to what they want, this is BADBUSINESS. I felt inconvenienced when it was my turn as well and had to turn around to face the people behind me to check an item price. All 4 of us got a coffee drink and 2 tried the burritos which they both enjoyed. I had the Hot Chocolate and it wasn’t worth the $ 3 – 4 price tag but did taste way more chocolatey than S.Bux. I will come back and review the food and let you know if your really getting a good deal or where you can get better.

Service can be a bit slow because there’s often only 1 person serving. Coffee is always good and the place has a nice, relaxed atmosphere. I like to support locally owned business and not the chains where my money leaves Idaho. Pastries are good but too large and priced too high, over $ 4. They could be smaller and under $ 3 and I’d buy more often.

Normally a Starbucks fan, its a rarity for me to give 5 stars to another chain coffee shop. A smaller or local brew hut… sure. But a coffee chain… no way. Honestly, this location and the other in by Chinden in Boise have made me see Moxie in a whole new light. The coffee us good sure, but for the rating here it is the staff, the space which is ample and reminicent of a 90s coffee house, and the brownies which make me oh so happy to hand over 5 stars. I love the refillable coffee mugs, the large comfy couch, that there is a convertable stage area for music, and always information of local events on the windows.

Moxie Java and More is a nice home-style coffee shop with plenty of varied furniture inside. It sits on the corner of Five Mile and Overland. What many people don’t know, is that their breakfast croissants are to die for. When I have time to eat breakfast, I’ll usually go to Chef’s Hut, Goldy’s Bistro, Egg Factory, or Joe Mammas. But when I’m running low on time, I’m absolutely happy with grabbing a stout cup of Moxie with a egg, sausage, tomato, and onion croissant. The secret to these is the addition of the mayo and mustard, which will blow your mind. They also serve breakfast burritos, but take the croissant instead. I’ve seen them serve biscuits and gravy every now and then on the weekends. The food is always made by a dude named Ron. He’s awesome, and will always brighten up your day when he brings out the food to you.
