Sakana is the best place for sushi in Boise. As a self described sushi snob(I’ve had sushi from Japan to London to NYC), this place seriously stands out! Fish is always fresh, rolls aren’t overly-drenched in sauces and the service is quick and great. They always recognize us when we stop by, definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Boise.

I come here probably twice a week because the sushi is so good. The service has always been hit or miss but I always come back for the food. Today I was eating edamame and a maggot popped out of it which is totally disgusting but I understand that these things happen. I showed our server and all she could say was that it’s probably organic and that’s how it got in there. We got our check and she hadn’t taken the edamame off which I thought was rude since they were infested with maggots and I didn’t consume the rest of it. I love Sakanas but they really need to work on their customer service.

I’m vegan and I’m always looking for places that are vegan friendly, this definitely is. If you’re vegan or just wanna try it out, order the vegetable roll and the avocado roll together, delicious!!!

My husband I were very very impressed by our visit last night. Like many other California transplants, we have been searching for good sushi places in Boise. We have had more than a few unfortunate experiences regarding fish here, and became a bit weary of trying again, but I am so glad we did. We ordered the Iso Maki and a Hana Roll, both came beautifully presented and the flavors were right on target. No fishiness here. I also ordered the Katsu Don Bowl which came with breaded and fried pork, egg, some vegetables on top of rice. Again, the flavors were awesome and not too overbearing or too salty. This bowl came with miso soup which was tasty too. The prices were average for a sushi spot, expect to pay about $ 12 – 15 per person. I want to come back for their happy hour. I saw the HH menu and they offer BOGO drinks, and a dollar or two off of their appetizers. The kicker is that they have Happy Hour every day of the week except for Friday. Saturday Happy Hour anyone?

I feel compelled to write a review for this place because it was so amazing! The menu has many Japanese dishes to chose from. I got shrimp yakisoba and the flavor was perfect! I’ve been so disappointed in the Asian genre of restaurants in Boise until now. The location is really nice too! Very casual with huge Windows. Our server was so cool and friendly! We will back!

The service is definitely 5 stars. I like the long-hair guy serving us that truly asked what we want, then delivered them … He’s really professional as well. I went in last night to try this sushi restaurant as me son is craving for sushi. My wife ordered mango mojito, which is really delicious and we started with Hamachi Kama and BBQ squid. Both are served in normal dinner plate, I would think that this could be improved from the decoration and playing perspective. The BBQ sauces are rather too sweet and the squid is rather overcooked(chewy). My suggestion is to split the sauce from the fish and squid so that one could adjust the sweetness and could enjoy the smokiness of the meat. My son ordered Godzilla, which is out-of-the-menu sushi recommended by our waiter. It is gigantic sushi with large unagi/eel, that my son loved. The plate decoration is pretty good. My wife and I ordered spicy-tuna-with-salmon-skin sushi, that’s also not in the menu. I liked it. As we saw our next table order fried noodle, we ordered small dishes of fried noodle, which is ok(I found it too sweet). Overall good sushi experience.

My favorite spot in Boise. From the food to the relaxed atmosphere, it’s the best place to be comfortable and pig out on some bomb sushi.

I have been here on three or four occasions and have always been quite impressed with the quality, variety, and presentation. One of the servers I had took his job a bit too seriously and didn’t have very good suggestions, but that was a one-time-thing. The rest of the time, servers have been knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic about what they’re serving. I have been able to get things here that I haven’t had since living in California and the quality has been terrific. There was one dish, I believe it was mackerel, where nigiri came out first and then the left over parts(head, etc.) were brought out shortly after, deep fried. I know it sounds weird, but if you’ve ever had deep fried collar and cheek, it is phenomenal. They also had a shrimp dish where they did something similar; made sushi with the shrimp and brought out the deep-fried head. Delicious. A little weird, but fantastic. If you want your average run-of-the-mill cut rolls, you can get them here. You can get nigiri, sashimi, etc. You can also get the less frequently available things as mentioned above. This is really a great place to go if you want to expand your horizons or just get a high-quality preparation of your tried and true favorites. If you step out of your comfort zone, you might be pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for something new.

Can’t give this place enough stars! Best people, best food and not tuna crazy like someone I know downtown. Since Sono Bana is gone, no more traditional sushi, this place will satisfy your needs and craves. They will order anything you want though if you give them a few days in advance and won’t serve you bad uni like someone I know downtown will!

Sakana is amazing! Definitely the best sushi in the Treasure Valley! I’m from California so i know great sushi and im very impressed with Sakana. My wife and I literally go at least twice a week. The Evergreen roll is fantastic. Spicy tuna, spicy king crab, shrimp tempura, avocado and mango. What more do you need!?! I’ve tried most of the rolls and their all great. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed!

This is a great place! I stopped here for a quick late lunch on my way to the airport. The waitress recommended the Sunrise Roll(off menu) and it came with miso soup. Perfect amount of food, beautiful and delicious!

Fantastic selection of sushi and other meals for people that don’t want sushi. Portions are really good size compared to other restaurants. Host and staff made a party of 20 feel very welcome. Highly recommended!

By far the best sushi in town! They have never let us down. The rolls are perfect size, the rice is perfectly cooked, and ALL of their seafood is bomb! Have gone with family members who aren’t seafood fans and they have so far loved everything they have tried on the menu that is not seafood.

Went there for the first time tonight. I will say that we are starting to think that if it looks so-so on the outside, it’ll be great on the inside. This place is no different. The sushi was fresh with great cuts. The rolls were very well prepared with great flavor. The service was prompt and the prices were reasonable. I will definitely be eating here again. This is coming from a guy who was born and raised in Hawaii, where the sushi is pretty good.

We love the sushi here! It’s so good, and reasonably priced. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars, because there is a server there that we have struggled with many times. He has consistently(and by consistently, I mean EVERYTIME), messed up our order. My friend asked for a refill of water, and he took 10 minutes-and the restaurant wasn’t busy! We have watched him sit and chat instead of checking on his tables. Again, the night was slow. All this being said, I LOVE this place!

Let me start by confirming, the sushi here is outstanding. They have a great selection of special rolls and the fish is always fresh. I went tonight and the service was great. we sat right down, ordered a rainbow roll and chicken teriyaki. The food came out quickly, but then I realized why it did– the chicken was cold. I still like this place, but am going to focus on getting sushi only from here on, and go elsewhere to satisfy my teriyaki craving.

I had the shrimp tempura bento box for lunch and for $ 8 or so it is a very good deal. You get a small salad, miso soup, a ginormous portion of rice, cantaloupe, some pieces of California roll, a few nice sized tempura shrimp and a nice small assortment of tempura veggies. The tempura was hot, fresh and not greasy. Pretty tasty grub for a land locked state like Idaho. The service was second to none, attentive, fast, not intrusive, caring with a touch of a sense of humor. They could use a bit of décor up date, the vibe in this place is kinda cross between Asia and a Denny’s! Yeah, I will come back when I need a good, hot inexpensive Bento for lunch.

I’m only given this a three star rating because the food was so good. The service here was terrible. It took us a full hour to get one glass of water and a bowl of miso soup. The restaurant was only half-full and you would think that they would’ve been prepared for New Year’s Eve. I will not be recommending this placed any friends going forward and will not visit again. I recommend if you want to eat here make sure you order your food in advance to go.

Probably more like 3.5. Anyway, it’s our go-to sushi place here and while it’s a great little restaurant with very friendly staff, the sushi just isn’t that great. Better than most in the area but it still has me longing for the sushi we had living in Boston. Yes, Idaho is land locked, I get it… but it’s still really just average sushi. Anyhoo, I ordered delivery for the kid and myself — veggie soba, sushi deluxe, shrimp tempura appetizer. Their«soba» is pretty good, but the noodles they use aren’t actually soba. Sushi deluxe comes with a spicy tuna roll which is also pretty decent. What gets me is the shrimp tempura appetizer. It’s 6.99 for two shrimp tempura and a bunch of veggie tempura. Two. Shrimp. I get it, shrimp is expensive and you still want to make this look like a substantial menu item so you give us all these filler veggies. But really? It’s just irritating.
