Borrego-Palm Canyon Campground

We camped in site 18 in the RV (full hookup) area. The campground was clean, the bathrooms stayed clean and stocked. It’s a great location as a base especially if you want to go exploring in the desert.

Love this campground. Despite the drought, the economy must be good in Borrego Springs, because there were running showers and restrooms. Standard sites included fire pits and shade with picnic table ;) There were lots of ants on my site though. Seems to be popular among families so expect noise. This is probably not the best campground for solo campers or those wishing to be isolated. Feels very safe. There are 2 excellent hiking trails right on the campground. Must come back for sure.

Beautiful clean camping area with a couple lf solid trails, bathroom and showers, and nearby amenities like gas, grocery, wood, as needed. Definitely a great weekend camp. Longer than that is a stretch for me. A bit disappointes they couldnt accommodate our mid size YMCA group in the main individual campgrounda. Forced us to the group sites. Which were ok but didnt have the brick wall/​fire pit that is unique to this place.

Awesome campground! Due to the cooler than usual Memorial Day weather this year, we decided to head to the desert, which would usually be too hot for us at this time. We got a premium campsite (107) with two cement picnic tables under a ramada built of stone and wood. The ramada had a built in fireplace that was invaluable during the windy evenings and I imagine is also great during the winters as it holds the heat in to keep you warm. The campsite also had a fire ring outside of the ramada that we used the last night when it was warm and not windy. Our site also had a water spigot.
The rangers were all nice and helpful. The bathrooms and showers were so clean. There are also open air/​flush toilets scattered throughout the campground so that you don’t need to walk all the way to the main facilities each time. Hot showers cost 50 cents for 3 minutes and you need to purchase special tokens at the entrance to use for the showers.
Campground is pet friendly, however the hiking trails are not. There is a paved trail from the campground to the Visitor’s Center that does allow pets, however, I would not classify it as a hike.
We had a great time and will definitely return! Be prepared for possible heat and wind and you love it!

This was a nice campsite. Easy access to restrooms, and there are showers available. Its also located at the trail head of a pretty cool hike to a palms oasis. There are picnic tables and fire pits at the camp sites. As to the campsite itself, it was a beautiful spot. There is very little light pollution, so you have a great view of the stars at night!
Now, here’s the bad part. I’m not sure if it was a fluke weather anomaly, but OMG! it was windy at night!!! It may have been partly because the campsite is at the opening of a canyon, and also party because there was a storm that just passed. It started sprinkling around 6pm while we had a BBQ going, but luckily it ended around 7pm, but then the wind picked up! It was windy enough that sparks from our fire pit were being blown out of the pit and out into the air. We decided to call it a night around 10pm. The wind died down temporarily, then it came…
It must have been the calm of the storm because after we were asleep for a few hours, we were all awoken by our tents collapsing on our faces! It felt like a tornado was blowing through!!! Anything that wasn’t heavy or wasn’t tied down got blown away! Sand was blown everywhere, and lots of it got into our tents. The winds were amazing! It was so horrible, it was hilarious! Everyone was laughing their asses off at how strong the winds were! I ended up sleeping in the car til morning. Overall, I had a great time at this campsite though! I would definitely go again.
Tips: Make sure you tie your tent down REALLY good!

Really nice campground. Clean bathrooms and clean showers. 1 token=3 minutes. Spacious sites. All have covered pergolas some with a low stone wall for a wind shelter. Be prepared it can get really windy in the early evening and afternoon. Good hiking nearby. We hiked Borrego Palm trail to the spring and slot canyon. Both fun hikes and our 9 year had no problems. Easy access to town. Center Market has everything you need.

I love the campsites here. There is a good amount of space between campsites. The restrooms and showers are very clean. The staff that works here are very nice and knowledgeable.

This campground was excellent!
We stayed in site 112. The sites weren’t too close together and we had plenty of space to play. Picnic table, fire ring with grill plate, flat spot for the tent, and a parking spot for the car. FLUSHABLE, clean toilets! Everyone was very courteous about the quiet hours between 10pm-​6am.
At night there was a bonfire at the «campfire center» where a ranger talked for about an hour about the local plants, animals, etc. It was really fun and interesting, highly recommend stopping by. There’ll be a sign when you drive in what time the campfire is at. If you don’t see it, just ask the guy at the kiosk!
The sell firewood but said they sometimes sell out early so maybe bring your own!
If you’re there for stargazing, pay attention to the moon cycles. We had a full moon and you could see like 5 stars, ha. It was amazingly bright out at night and would’ve been perfect conditions for a night hike.
The roads are all well paved and there are tons of signs to help you out. They’ll also give you a map at the check-​in kiosk.
I recommend stopping by the visitor center to see the info stuff they have there. Then do the Panoramic overview trail (.5 mile up, .5 mile down a rocky hill. It’s not super difficult because the length is so short) and the Palm Canyon trail. Palm Canyon trail has a numbered info pamphlet to follow along while you hike, loved that!

We stayed here in late May 2014… actually ⁵⁄₂₈ through ⁶⁄₂. Reservations were easy online, and the campground was deserted. A couple of snowbirds in RV’s, and maybe two other tent campers. The nearby bathroom was clean, with running water and very clean flush toilets. We also used the token operated showers, another treat while tent camping. Our campsite shared a water spigot… another plus for tent campers. This made rinsing dishes/​cleaning our coffee pot in the morning a snap, plus we didn’t have to lug a full 5 gallon jug from home. Very nice. The night time star show was awesome, and each evening was very quiet and tranquil. We are staying again in early November 2014 and will write a follow up review of our winter desert camping experience. The campsite was plenty big for two, featured a nice parking spot for our 4×4, had a great picnic table and covered pergola for daytime shade. A ranger stopped by on our third day to say hello, and confirm the fourth night. We had a nice chat about desert park funding and clean up efforts. All in all, a great stay for $ 22 a night.

Really cool place to see. The stark contrast between the desert and the Oasis is very stunning. The hike is not too long but since it is very hot I would recommend bringing plenty of water and wearing protection against the Sun.

Beautiful campground. Friendly hosts. Fire rings. Showers. Amazing views. Easy hiking trail, Palm Canyon Trail right there. Go for it!

Shhhhh!!! Don’t tell anybody! This place is awesome! The scenery is fantastic. The air is clean. The sun is shining. Full hookups for trailers. Crowded (sold out) in winter months, but reserve your slice of paradise and you will looooove it.

Nice spot; get’s a little noisy with a full campground. I was very surprised that people brought their babies… Not good in 101 degree weather because it makes em’ cranky.

Great large campground right on the edge of the Anza-​Borrego Desert State Park. It is a great campground for RV camping as well as tent camping. The RV section of the campground has full hooks up for your motorhome and large spots to pull into. However these spots are a little close together in my opinion and they have no shades. While in the tent/​trailer area of the campground the spots are much more spread out and private. They also come with shades over the picnic tables and there are bathrooms with showers in this section. If you have a large group there is a group section. The prices are $ 35.00 a night for the RV section with the hook ups and $ 25.00 a night for the other spots. Also at the back of the campground there is a three mile round trip self guided trial the leads to the third largest natural palm oasis in California.
