Everything was perfect for a cozy and festive Christmas dinner. Fireplace and the amazing view of the mountains and desert, check. We both went with the traditional turkey and dressing, and were not disappointed. In fact we were WOWED by the fresh ingredients, flawless prep and gorgeous presentation. Prices are great for this level of restaurant -$ 30 for a generous 3 course meal, including crudite amuse bouche, homemade bread, soup or salad and pie for dessert.

We were visiting Borrego Springs for the first time with some friends who had their wedding there. We chose this restaurant for dinner because the newly married couple had heard it was good. They were wrong, it was great! I had the prime rib, the others had filet mignon, and all of us loved the meal. The ambiance was nice. We didn’t have reservations, and we had our dog with us, but they graciously offered to seat us on a second patio that they don’t usually use(or maybe they’re planning to use it but it wasn’t open yet). It was even better than their normal patio because we had the place all to ourselves. The best thing, however, was the service. We were served by a wonderful lady named Catalina who was fantastic. In spite of the fact that we were very far away from all her other tables, she was prompt, efficient, friendly and on top of everything all night. She impressed me so much I tried to let the manager/owner know before I left, but that was after two glasses of wine, so I may have been talking to the hostess, lol. We will definitely be back the next time we’re in Borrego Springs!

Prix Fixe Dinner 5 – 6:30 pm for $ 19 an excellent value with enjoyable ambiance. Last night went with friends to dinner at the Coyote Steakhouse at 6pm and don’t understand why it isn’t packed every night. They offer happy hour drink prices plus a prix Fixe menu with choice of appetizer, entrée, and desert for $ 19. Appetizers include crab cake, ahi tartare, fried calamari, onion rings, Caesar salad, wedge salad, or soup. Entrees were pork tenderloin, Cornish game hen, chicken cordon blue, meatloaf, Mac and cheese, or gluten free portobello mushroom cap and served on warmed plates. Desert choices were coconut snowball(vanilla ice cream rolled in toasted coconut in hot fudge), cobbler with ice cream, or just a scoop of ice cream. Wedge salad was really nice with add ons on the side(bacon, toasted almonds, red onion, chopped hard boiled egg, tomato), and ahi tartare a nice surprise. Meatloaf, pork tenderloin, and portobello all good. Cobbler and coconut snowball nice finishes to meals. Decent Fetzer house wine for $ 6 glass or $ 10 half liter.

We live in Ranchita about 20 min away. We have been eating here for several years now and there food is very good. From breakfast to Dinner everything we have had has been good. A little pricey but still good. The Blue Cheese Burger is killer. The RibEye Steak is as tender as a baby’s butt. All in all if your looking for a little more of a high end dinner give this place a try. Robert Zuver.

We went there on Christmas day for dinner, as it was one of the rare place to be open. The service was not fast, but because of Xmas, we assumed not everybody was working that day, so we were okay with that, and anyway not in a hurry. Food was great, the meat was wonderful, we really enjoyed our meal, it’s a bit priced but worth it. We would have rated it five stars if there wasn’t any detail mistake. For instance, when they served the main dish, the plates looked great, the table looked great too, like a great restaurant,… and they brought the large horseradish bottle on the table, to help ourselves! :S It would have been to much better if they add little cups with horseradish with our plates. It’s just details but it’s a little disappointing. Anyhow, great food, definitely worth going there! :)

My family has a house in Borrego Springs, so we eat at the Krazy Coyote pretty often. We consider it the best restaurant for dinner in the area. That being said, it is pretty slim pickings in Borrego Springs. I really like their crab cakes appetizer, which I have as a dinner. My brothers, husband and dad all like their steak. I wouldn’t go expecting a gourmet meal, but it is good, nonetheless. I have to mark down one star for service. The last time I was there we did not get good service. Everything took a long time, our server didn’t check on us, just not remarkable.

We had the pleasure of dining at the Krazy Coyote for Thanksgiving Day dinner this year. I’ve always enjoyed the food here, but the service is not always tops. However, for Thanksgiving, the place was packed and we received excellent service and even more importantly, an absolutely fantastic meal from beginning to end for our family of 5. We had their Cream of Mushroom soup for a starter and we all ordered their Filet Mignon for the main course with different toppers(Bernaise sauce, Bleu Cheese butter, and mushrooms – all excellent) with fresh veggies and some wonderful bread. Then pumpkin and apple pie for dessert. Everything was spectacular – just the way you hope for, especially on a special day’s celebration. We also returned on Sunday morning for brunch at the related Red Ocotillo patio restaurant. As we’d discovered on previous visits, their breakfasts are always wonderful. Again, the service can sometimes be an issue here, but once again, we had excellent service from a very efficient waitress. Both the Krazy Coyote and Red Ocotillo Restaurants are off the beaten track, but they are a must when we visit Borrego Springs these days.

Not much more to add than what the other positive reviews have said. We had dinner on New Years eve and it was very cool, they had party hats, confetti and those little horns on the tables. Service was ok, and it is pricy, but if you want good food when you’re in the middle of the desert, this is as good as it gets.

One of the best secrets of Borrego Springs is the Krazy Coyote and it’s transplanted«sister,» The Red Ocotillo. We celebrated New Year’s at the Krazy Coyote with beautiful prime rib, filet mignon with mushroom bearnaise sauce and lobster… all wonderfully prepared. While some of the«nicer touches»(drawn butter) were missing, this was a great experience and our second time spending New Year’s here.

OK, you’re in the middle of desert… but this restaurant is a nice oasis of good eating. What you should know ahead of time: The restaurant is connected to a hotel which is a hip throwback from the 50’s. Tons of character. The parking lot may give you the wrong idea because there are some«ghost town» abandoned motel ruins, but the inside of the hotel and restaurant are clean and well kept. Don’t worry! We tried this place for breakfast and dinner and both were excellent. You can tell that the chef takes care with the cooking. I asked, and was told that they are a husband/wife team. The wife was cooking dinner and the husband was cooking breakfast. We sat outside on the patio which overlooks the pool of the hotel. Fresh, hot dinner rolls. A generous carafe of ice water with a slice of lemon. Don’t forget to save room for dessert. If you’re a crème brûlée junkie like me, you’ve gotta give it a go. It’s delicious. Also, this hotel/restaurant is dog friendly. If you bring your dog they will bring your pooch a bowl of water and a special dog biscuit.

My wife and I had the pleasure of eating dinner the very night they re-open for the fall. It was a nice, easy paced meal I enjoyed calf’s liver & onions and she had Asian pork tenderloin. Both were done just right and the service was excellent. The beer was ice cold & martini superb. We highly recommend the Crazy Coyote.

This place is terrible!!! I went there in the summer. We were in Borrego to watch some meteor shower and well, in Borrego there isn’t exactly lots of places to choose from to eat. The food wasn’t fresh. I had some tofu burger thing that had no flavor. It was just a block of tofu in a bun with some lettuce… gross. We ordered mimosas which were supposed to come with a small bottle of champagne but it didn’t and they still charged us $ 10 per drink. Then when we said something it took about an hour for them to do anything and when they did they only took 2 drinks off the check. We were the only people eating in there. The atmosphere is non-existent… need I go on???

My wife and I were on a recent trip from San Diego, through Borrego Springs to Phoenix. We wanted a nice place to eat dinner. Using Unilocal,we found the Krazy Coyote. It was a Thursday night, during wildflower season. I called for reservations and settled on 7:30 p.m. We arrived about 30 minutes early. No problem, though the place was bustling, we were taken right to our table. We were given a menu for the Krazy Coyote, their fine dining establishment, and also a menu for the Red Ocotillo, their diner. We were told we could order off of both menus. We chose the fine dining menu. First, we looked at the wine list. Among the many very overpriced wines we found a Jade Mountain Syrah for $ 25.00 a bottle. Wow. What a deal. It was absolutely excellent. We ordered main courses with no appetizer. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Blue and my wife ordered the rack of lamb. Both entrée’s came with mashed(almost pureed) potatoes and carrot coins. Both were absolutely excellent. The lamb was cooked absolutely perfectly rare just like my wife likes it. The sauce was brought, as requested, on the side. We have paid much more for a rack of lamb that wasn’t cooked ½ as well as this. Kudo’s to the Chef. My Cordon Blue had a creamy texture and a variety of rich flavors. Absolutely perfect. No complaints about the food at all. I will note that it appears that many regulars from the area were eating here on Thursday night. I am in my mid 40’s and my wife and I lowered the average age in the room by many years. The restaurant was full at 7:30 and our waitress was struggling, but was able, to keep up. The only reason this did not receive a five star rating is because our table was next to a wall. The wall separated a bar area from what appeared to be the main dining area. On the ledge of the bar, right next to my wife’s shoulder, there was a stack of menus. Constantly, a waitress would pick up menus and set them back down again either knocking the ribbon curtains against my wife or knocking a menu against my wife. I counted at least 4 places where these menus could be kept without being in the way of a seated diner. Our total bill for two with a bottle of wine was right at $ 100.00. We were pleased all the way around. The restaurant is in a Hotel which is quite unique and worth a walk around after dinner. The memorabilia on the wall next to the check in was very interesting.

A place to go for a special dinner, the Krazy Coyote is a gem in the small desert community of Borrego Springs. It has an eclectic menu featuring prime steaks, fresh fish and gourmet pizzas. We’ve dined several times at the Coyote and had an excellent prime rib and lobster. Deserts are«custom crafted» and hard to resist. The décor is a throwback to the 50s and you can dine indoors or out on the patio surrounding the pool. The Krazy Coyote closes on Mother’s Day for the summer and reopens in the fall. The owners also own the Red Ocotillo which is open all year.

Its like a little Oasis, surrounded by palm trees. I guess the resort was frequented by the Hollywood crowd of the 1940 – 50’s. Retro feel-tropical fabrics, cane dining chairs, retro music. Great«feel» to the place. The bar is cute– nice curtains dividing the dining room and the bar. Hand made out of individual strips of ribbon. I’ve just seen this look in catalogs-good execution! The good was just as you expected. Regular-hot-massive portions. Strong drinks! My kind of place…
