I never review but after coming here every October for the past 5 years with family for the pumpkin risotto, I have never been more disappointed. When you walk in it smells dirty. Buffalo chicken dip is now just buffalo dip and was tiny and just cream cheese and hot sauce it seemed with a ton of tortilla chips. Ew :(that used to be there thing and it was gross. The food in general seemed different and instead of the big bustling crowd I am used to it was very dead there, even for a Sunday football day seeing they play every game that is going on. I am sad to say that the way things were looking here next year when we show up(if we do) it might not even be open anymore. Looks like it’s time to be a new annual October dinner spot when visiting my sis In southie. I am saying this now almost 5 months later after I just saw the reply I received! I heard they were closing and just came on here to check but no one followed up with me, in reading your reply I never stated that we had a problem with the risotto I said that is why we even come back there because it is always amazing, my problem was with the cleanliness and our app as well as our other entrees, I also never said you were a sports bar but in your bar area you have tvs always playing every game therefore I said for Sunday football it was weird seeing no one in there when clearly restaurants playing football would have a Sunday crowd! Just that reply alone from the owner makes me never want to go there because he completely misunderstood what I was saying clearly. I didn’t see anyone in charge or going up to tables making sure everything was all good like I usually do so I do wish you guys the best of luck in your future because for 5 years our family did make it a fall tradition, I am very disappointed. And being a business owner I would never write a reply like that and if I said I’ll contact you directly then I would follow up. Thanks

I was invited for a brunch by my friend. She really liked this place however I got different experience. Brunch price is $ 21 per person and starts at 10:00AM. We got there at 10:15 and some of the food was already pretty cold not even warm. I have to say that I didn’t try everything that they have but I’ve tried enough to realized that I’m not coming back. Salad was pretty fresh however they put way too much onions so Instead of spring salad I had onion salad. Bacon was so fat and greasy. With first bite I felt tons of oil in my mouth. Gross! From fruits they had mix of melons and pineapple which were good and fresh however watermelon was very soft and mushy. I can’t say anything bad about desert they did had a good selection of mini cakes, pastries as well as mini cannoli. For me they were just bla. Something that I can buy at supermarket. You could taste that the cake were not super fresh but not too old. It’s not a very bad place I’ve had worse however all food was something that I can easily make at home and it will taste much better. The food was not appealing for me. Will not come back!

I’d been anticipating my visit to this Southie establishment since I moved here 2 years ago. Their weekend brunch buffet was legendary, but when they discontinued it, I didn’t have a compelling reason enough to come in(fact check me: is the brunch buffet still not a thing?). Around the holidays, they do a great job decorating the place, so that was a plus. Otherwise, the food was a bit disappointing. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but the steak tip flat bread was way too salty. There are too many other places to try before I return.

Yet another voucher — this one for 1 appetizer and 2 entrees — led us back to Amrheins for a dinner in December. I’ve read of complaints by voucher users who felt that service was lacking or that they were otherwise treated differently from a business’ full paying guests, but I had never felt that way… till this most recent visit to Amrhein’s that is. I had come with a plan. A plan formulated by careful perusal of their online dinner menu just days prior our visit. We would first start with their Sacchetti appetizer which had so satisfied us last time, then split the PUMPKINRISOTTO Twice baked sugar pumpkin filled with a chicken risotto with cashews, dried cranberries, caramelized onions and baby spinach and topped with cheddar cheese $ 23 with its impressive presentation and the THEJIMMYHAYES* 26oz OMAHA certified Cowboy steak bleu cheese crumbles Amrheins house steak sauce with duck fat fingerling potatoes and vegetable of the day $ 29, because it was a slab of cow on a plate. Turns out when fall exited, so did the pear tortellini and the pumpkin entrée. No one thought to update the online menu however! It still reads the same even now in January, tempting me with those autumn flavors. We did get the steak though, but it was way too strong on the blue cheese, and not a tender cut of meat. Our other entrée was the BRAISEDBERKSHIREPORKSHORTRIB14 oz braised Berkshire pork short ribs, garlic whipped potato, roasted butternut squash, apple cider reduction $ 23. Pork rather dry, but so moist and tender between the bone and a nice layer of fat. The sides I attempted to change up a bit, but was met with limitations that I had not faced in previous visits. I really wanted their creamy risotto with cashews, dried cranberries, caramelized onions and baby spinach, but not enough to swap two sides for it. I was told that this was the option since we were redeeming a voucher deal. So, instead, I sadly went instead with the alternate: butternut squash, spinach, brussel sprouts, and sweet potato fries. While the entrée course was a bit disappointing, the starter we selected was a surprise winner. Highlighted at the top of the menu was a ROASTEDBEETANDGOATCHEESESALAD, baby kale, roasted beets, shaved fennel, roasted apples, Bonne Bouche local Vermont goat cheese, candied, pecans, and orange fig vinaigrette, $ 14. It was a yummy and well portioned starter salad for two with a whole disk of cheese tucked beneath the greenery. Fortunately, dessert was a step back up in the right direction from the rather sad entrees. The NEWYORKCHEESECAKE Classic New York Cheesecake served with caramelized apples and caramel sauce $ 9 arrived as a nice slab of creamy cheesecake with a good amount of sliced fruit. Note: Online reservations are now available for parties of 6 or larger only. The bathroom was freezing!

We came here on a Wednesday night and it was super crowded! I can’t even believe in my eyes. The wait was 45 minutes! When I called them in the morning, they said they don’t take reservation for party under 6 so that is a minus one star right there for me. We had planned to do something else too and the guy on the phone told me there would be no wait that night… So I was a bit surprised with this wait. But well, that means it must be really good right? I had a groupon to use. We ordered the steak tip flatbread, prime rib and the lobster pie. The flatbread has jalapeño on it which tasted a little weird to me, but the steak tip was good! The prime rib was a little burnt on the outside and tasted okay. The lobster pie was pretty good, with a lot of lobster meat, but I thought it was dry. I feel a lot of the food can use some more sauce. The service was also a little delayed since they have a lot of people.

This was pretty decent. We went for New Year’s Day brunch, after selecting it on Open Table because it had available reservations at 2pm. Wouldn’t have been my first choice otherwise. I got a breakfast sandwich, which I can’t complain about. They’re always good. Our waitress really wasn’t that attentive and we spent a lot of time looking for her so we could get drink refills. My husband ordered chicken and waffles, minus the waffles, and wanted a side of scrambled eggs, and when it showed up, it was just a waffle, no chicken. It didn’t take much time for them to fix the order, but when the chicken did come out it was pretty well-done. The pricing wasn’t bad, and overall the food wasn’t terrible. Décor was really nice! In a pinch I would go back.

Have been to this place a number of times and the food has usually been good, however this last time we went my wife got food poisoning later that night. We will not be going back. We ate there on the night of December 6th and she ate the short ribs Mac n cheese.

Really love this place. The atmosphere is great… Whether you are coming here with some friends or on a date, you can’t go wrong. The food is delicious. The menu has something for everyone! I got the chicken pot pie and it was phenomenal! The customer service is really great. I ordered a meatball appetizer and after waiting for quite some time I was told by the bartender that they ran out meatballs. He ordered me, my fiancé and my uncle a round of drinks on the house for the inconvenience. It was much appreciated. Can’t wait to come back!

I’ve been here twice for dinner and loved it both times! The first time I went with two girl friends on a Friday night and we all ordered salmon burgers with sweet potatoe fries. They were absolutely delicious. Salmon tasted super fresh and the burger melted in your mouth. The next time I cam here I brought my mom and her colleague when they were visited Boston. We ordered the antipasto platter and fried calamari to start. The platter was huge and came with prosciutto, salami, artichoke hearts, mozz/tomatoe, and roasted red peppers. Everything was very fresh as expected. I ordered the crab stuffed haddock as my entrée with vegetables and mashed potatoes on the side. The plate was a generous serving and left me with enough for lunch the next day. Highly suggest checking it out here for a quick drink if you live close by or dinner!

My sister, her friend, and I walked in without a reservation earlier today at around 5:45pm today. She had picked out the restaurant for her birthday dinner before we found out about the Groupon deal, which we eventually snagged before going. We were seated right away, which is a plus. A few servers came by at various times to bring bread and some of the items we ordered, but our main server was Ainsley. Ainsley was very friendly and checked on our table multiple times. She gets two thumbs up from me! All of the waitstaff who serviced our table were very friendly, too. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. There weren’t a lot a people at first, but the tables started filling up within an hour of our arrival. Still, the noise level was a bit much when we first arrived. I could barely hear my sister’s friend at normal speaking voice, and he was sitting right next to me. We had ordered buffalo tenders as an appetizer for the table; my sister got the steak tips; her friend got the sirloin; and I got the Yankee pot roast. The buffalo tenders were good. They were nicely sauced and were pretty juicy. However, I wasn’t very impressed with my dish. It was a little too salty and in general, there was nothing special about it. Half way through, it became a chore to finish because there was so much of it. This was a bit of a let down because I was really hungry and this didn’t quite hit the spot. In addition to our food, we also ordered a pitcher of Red Sangria. Sadly, the sangria was very disappointing. I understand that sangria normally doesn’t have a very high alcohol content, but it really tasted like we were drinking fruit punch. Normally, this would irk me only a little bit, but the pitcher was $ 35. The pitcher was also quite small for that price point. Overall, my experience was kind of mediocre. The staff and atmosphere are great, but I’m hesitant to come here again because of the price range and quality of the food/drinks. I may give this place another chance at some point but probably not any time soon.

We went here on a Groupon. We started with the Buffalo Dip which was enormous. It was a bit heavy for my liking, considering we ordered a large meal, but it was tasty and I would order this on it’s own or just with a sandwich. I got the Pumpkin risotto. That was delicious and the presentation was pretty cool, in a pumpkin! I think the cheese on top was over kill, it didn’t need it, however. Our server was great. My boyfriend loved his seafood dish, it was a special. I really liked the food here and definitely will give it another try, lots of interesting dishes on the menu.

Being seated within 5 mins upon our arrival and having such a big menu were the only positives I experienced here. This place however was a huge disappointment. Very poor service, better management needed. So, after our drinks and calamari arrived, our waitress informed us the kitchen was a little slow due to Groupons. After we finished our bland calamari and overwhelming minty cocktails, the waitress came back and once again informed us of the slow kitchen due to Groupons. She also stated our dinner would be out soon. That was an understatement.(What is the definition of soon in your book?) We waited a painful 45 mins. We were pretty annoyed that she did not come by to give us any updates throughout. She walked by us several times avoiding eye contact. We were more angry that she was not upfront with us and said it might be over an hour wait or so. Honestly, we would’ve been more at ease if she mention that from the beginning. We were minutes to walking out until our meals came to our table. We decided to pack it to go. When our waitress came to give us our check she apologized immensely and blamed the whole situation on Groupon. Seriously? If your establishment could not handle the Groupons then why put it on the site anyways? I still did not fully understand the whole kitchen being slow situation. FYI it was not packed at all. There were other diners who walked out for the long wait as well. Good thing we spared them the embarrassing scene those others caused! If they were so overwhelmed by Groupons I can’t even imagine what it’s like on a regular packed night. I’m most upset that I felt the whole time they purposely trapped us in there just to make some money. Even at your local IHOP, they’ll inform me it’ll be an hour wait. On a side note: After I got home. I noticed my steak was burnt. They tried to hide it by putting the burnt side face down. It tasted pretty awful.

Comfort food is how I would describe it, and it’s so yummy! I was here on a Saturday evening, we only waited a few minutes without a reservation. The atmosphere is cozy, nice, but not fancy. I had the poutine, so good and the braised short ribs which were amazing as well. I also really liked the drink menu, a lot of fun cocktails!!! Also, the risotto is amazing.

I have to admit that I tend to come here when I see a Groupon deal because of it’s location in Southie & the proximity of quality options that are quite closer to my home & workplace. This time around we took a nice bus ride on the number 9 from Copley Square to directly across the street from the front door & got there quite early for our reservation but the friendly pair of hostesses were very accomidating so we only waited a few minutes. Even though this place is very old, established in 1890, I am always surprised on the mix of traditional & contemporary dishes that they offer. The plating here is simple & has little fuss. The focus comes in the food. Our waitress was extemely nice & it did not feel fake. So I ordered a nice beer, 21st Amendment’s Hell or High Watermelon, to accompany a small plate of sriracha bbq chicken wings to start & the baked stuff lobster special as my entrée. Everything came out fast & fresh. The sticky wings had a perfect mix of sweet & spice but luckly they included some wet naps to clean up. My girlfriend went with the buffalo dip & poutine. The spicy dip came with a generous amount of tortilla chips & was quite tasty. To illustrate how service focused our server was when the poutine came out my girlfriend did not realize that the horseradish sauce would be placed directly on top but they took it back with absolutely no argument it was replaced. Another example happened when my lobster was placed in front of me & for whatever reason I assumed it was my order so I cracked a claw off & began my meal but my girlfriend pointed out that the lobster did not looked stuffed. She was right, but when I brought this up to the server she apologized & had the right lobster in hand. As I tried to hand her back the 1st one she told me to keep it. I was absolutely shocked & kind of felt bad but she reassured me that it wasn’t my fault plus mentioned who wouldn’t want two lobsters. We rounded off the meal with a wonderful stacked strawberry shortcake that was a meal in itself for dessert. It was covered with whipped cream drizzled with strawberry styrup on top of strawberry ice cream with a nestled layer of soft sponge cake. We like coming here & my girlfriend even mentioned how this would be our«spot» if we lived closer. I would have to agree. With friendly staff, good food, large bar & oodles of history, what else could you ask for?

I can’t believe this restaurant has their own parking lot on prime Southie real estate. Guess they can since they’ve been around from 1890. The restaurant was already getting packed at 6pm on Friday night. We were immediately greeted by two friendly hostesses. Our server, Danielle, stopped by fairly quickly, went over the specials and took our drink orders. Can’t really say the menu is super exciting — typical traditional American. We ordered the following: Fried calamari — served with sweet chili sauce. liked the cherry peppers for the extra kick Stuffed lobster — saw a woman eat the stuff lobster when we checked in. The stuffing was more breadcrumbs(than crabmeat and scallops). Good size lobster. Delmonico ribeye — 16 oz steak, nicely seasoned and cooked close to medium temperature Definitely cleaned our plates with no room for dessert. Maybe next time. Also, awesome red sangria.

Really bad service. Our waitress Helen R. was really rude. My gf and I came by with a groupon to try this place. Took her 10 minutes to give us the menu and another 20 minutes to give us water. Refills on water was out of the question as she was never around. We had to ask for bread. She told us there weren’t any mash potatoes left, yet tables who came after us got their orders. Also, when I said I did not want an alcoholic drink, she rolled her eyes at me. I don’t know what the problem is, is it because of the groupon? Honestly, groupon is a way to get new customers. Will not come back with this kind of service. Food came after an hour. Place was pretty deserted on a Saturday night. Food were mediocre. Asked for medium well for my filet mignon, came out burnt and overcooked. No Bueno.

Just ok. I don’t think I’d come out of my way to go here, but the food is decent, there’s tons of seating inside and outside, and the food is good. There was nothing in particular about it that wowed me or made a very strong impression though. It seems like that kind of place you’d go to if you were hungry and you just decided to go into some random place because you’d never been there before. I had the chicken tenders for an appetizer which were good but average at the same time, and then for my entrée I had a turkey burger with sweet potato fries. The turkey burger was fine, but the sweet potato stood out more in terms of flavor. I went with 3 other people so I was able to try a nibble of the crab cake(meh), the steak tips(delicious!), and the turkey tips risotto(risotto was fantastic but apparently the turkey was too dry). Not a bad experience by any means, but easily forgettable.

Purchased a Groupon for this restaurant. Glad I did. The place is located in Southie with plenty off street parking which if you know this area is difficult to find and a plus for the restaurant. The woodwork and décor is quite relaxing and beautiful. Our waitress was attentive and not overbearing and knowledgeable of the food entrees. The good: Appetizer we had mussels just enough for two and delicious. We ordered lobster pie and steak tip entrees. My lobster pie was full of lobster and crab meat stuffing was very good. Steak tips and vegetable melody is perfect. The bad: The menu a little pricey for the average patrons having the Groupon made it afordable. I found this place extremely cozy convenient and a good eat.

I brought a Groupon for this place. Paid $ 25 for $ 50 worth of food. Drinks not included. 50% off is totally worth it, right? No. On the coupon, it stated that you have to mention that we have a Groupon before ordering. So we did(was this a mistake?). My boyfriend and I were seated right next to the kitchen where we heard all the staff talking and cooks cooking. It was very loud and unpleasant. Our waitress, Barbara came up to us, nice and pleasant got our drink orders– a bottled beer and a glass of Riesling and moved us to a booth. That was really nice of her. When Barbara came back with my room temperature WHITE wine and cold beer, we just place our order. For appetizer, we ordered Sriracha Chicken Wings($ 8). For dinner, we both ordered the Prime Rib medium($ 27 each). About 15 minutes later, our Wings came. It was absolutely delicious. Perfect for both of our tasting. We finished the wings, it took us about 10 – 15 minutes. Another staff member, he came up to us and said something in similar«Hey guys, we are sorry but we ran out of Prime Ribs. Here is a menu.» As he walked away to the kitchen I observed him speaking to Barbara. She turned around and we made the strangest eye contact. My boyfriend and I were very disappointed. Why did it take them more than 30 minutes to tell us and on top of that the Prime Ribs stated that it’s «slow roasted.“Doesn’t that mean they should of known in advance? Barbara came back to us about 8 minutes later and asked us what we wanted to order. My boyfriend ordered the Steak Tip($ 20) and I ordered the Delmonico Steak($ 27) — both medium. We then asked her immediately why she didn’t tell us until 30 – 40 mintues later and she did not have an answer for us. All she was able to say was«Sorry.» The food came. I tried some Steak Tip is was way over cooked, but still well marinated –only because it been marinated. Mashed potatoes were very bland and cool temperature. Was not worth $ 20. The Delmonico Steak was well done as well. The worst! I ate about ½ of it because I was so hungry. It came with potatoes au gratin and vegetables. The side order tasted much better than the main part. How can that work? At the end, when the check came, she took out the drink orders to make up the problem. My boyfriend still tip 20% because he is just a kind hearted person. Overall, we will not be coming back. The fact that Barbara did not apologize until we called her out and that someone else came to our table to tell us. Are you serious?! Done.

I’m sitting there, wrapped in a blanket on the couch. It’s raining, it’s cold and I feel sick. Boyfriend comes in and prods me to get ready, we have to go to dinner with his friends. I cough weakly and contemplate telling him to go on without me while subtly hinting that he should pick me up something to eat while he’s out. But I heroically fold myself into an upright position and resolve to go even if it kills me, which I see as a distinct possibility. I find myself sitting at a table in Amriheins, thankfully far away from the propped open door letting in cold damp drafts from outside. I look at the menu and instantly feel a little better. Shepherd’s Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, Pot Roast with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables?! What is this, Grandma’s house? Soft, easy to chew bland-ish but comforting foods… just what the doctor ordered. I got the pot roast and it was everything I hoped it would be. The meat pulled apart with ease, the mashed potatoes were soft and creamy and almost as good as sitting on the couch, and the roasted veggies were tender and plentiful. Huge portions, but that didn’t stop me from mowing down the whole plate except for a few lost pieces of meat and veggies. It was damn good. Here’s where things go wrong. My friend ordered the poutine, which I had severe misgivings about just from its description on the menu: horseradish and vermont cheddar? What kind of place is this?! It arrived, and even though I knew it was from hell, I dutifully loaded my fork. Upon first chew I knew I was right. Tangy and sour from the combo of vermont cheddar blobs(which I love, don’t get me wrong, just not on poutine) and runny horseradish sauce, the flavor of the gravy was completely drowned out, and the texture lacked the trademark chewiness of cheese curds, making it a soupy sour concoction that bore only the slightest resemblance to poutine. No gusta. Prices are on the high side at about $ 20 for most dinner entrees, but as I said the portions are generous so you could probably make two meals out of it. (I think I’ll know when I’m truly a grownup because I’ll stop writing things like«you could totally get three meals out of it if you ration properly.»)
