Yesterday I had a good experience getting half-​price tickets to FELA. It was quick and easy at BosTix. You get a voucher which you take to the theater box-​office where you are given your actual tickets. This is a great way to be able to enjoy performances which would otherwise be extremely expensive. The performance itself was unusual but very enjoyable. The dancing and singing were first-​rate. Thank you BosTix for making cultural events in Boston affordable.

It is great to have a Bostix in town. I’ve been able to see some awesome shows that I never would have seen because of them. You can now pay with a credit card.
Perhaps the pricing structure could be clearer before you go to the booth. For example, I bought «½ priced» tix today for a $ 50 show. There was an $ 8.25 fee per ticket added on, which is 33% of $ 25. So while it still represents a HUGE discount to face value (the total price was $ 33.25 each), it usually isn’t «½ priced».
Also, sometimes the booth does not have the physical ticket and you have to show up at the theatre’s box office to pick-​up the ticket an hour before curtain.
Great for last minute tickets, usually in the back of the house, but for great seats remember to sign up for email offers from the local orgs, like the Huntington or Boston Ballet.

Though this little booth in the corner of Copley Square sometimes looks as though it’s just a place to hang flyers and collect bird poo, inside is some glorious-​ness. Okay, it’s really not glorious. But what it does have is half price day-​of tickets. For those of us who would much rather spend all our money on booze but feel like we should properly entertain our friends, half price tickets are fairly glorious.
The Australian friend and I were between Blue Man Group and Shear Madness. The girl behind the glass was a mediocre amount of helpful, but once we engaged her she was fine. She explained both shows to my friend who had never heard of either and gave some honest comments. (Ultimately we decided on Shear Madness because it was decided that the show was American/​Boston where as Blue Man Group is spreading)
We were there in the middle of the day on a Wednesday, so I can’t speak to the lines. I did stop by once for Blue Man Group tickets on a Saturday and we ended up choosing dinner instead, but there were no lines with tickets still available. I will be back Bos Tix; you appeal to my wallet and to my I-​want-​to-​pretend-​to-​have-​any-​amount-​of-​culture side.

I’d use Goldstar instead. Better tickets, easier to purchase, easier to enjoy, and you can even purchase months ahead in most cases.

Sign up for BosTix advance emails — great deals on local theater. I’ve gotten fantastic tickets for $ 20 to $ 30, weeks in advance. It’s fantastic!

5 stars for Bostix, which is cool, no stars for Ticketmaster outlets of all kinds. I flipping HATE ticketmaster. So much that I have just composed a haiku about them:
Ticketmaster sucks
Service charges for what now?!?
Twenty extra bucks

I received a gift certificate for Bostix. Two things to keep in mind when considering giving this gift: 1) You can only redeem these tickets over the phone or in person at a Bostix Booth. 2) If you redeem over the phone, they have to have the gift certificate in hand before they can issue your tickets. If you go to the booth you can only get tickets the day of the show.
While Bostix has awesome deals, it is a bit obnoxious to use these gift certificates.

What a great deal! I just tried this when my Dad was in town a few weeks ago for Blue Man Group tickets. We went about Noon to the Faneuil Hall location and there was no wait. We walked right up and got tickets. I would bet that for more current or shorter run shows tickets would be much more competitive.
