Caffè Strega

Prompt service, good prices, and convenient.
The sandwiches and pizza are a really good deal for this area. Coffee is quite good and you’ll get it much faster than at the nearby starbucks or brew.
Great for a quick breakfast too! Small selection but they always have hardboiled eggs for a buck which is nice.

Excellent pre-​made lunch sandwiches in a convenient location for Waterfront workers. (They have coffee and breakfast items, but I haven’t tried those yet.)
Caffe Strega isn’t so much a separate restaurant as it is a sandwich counter within an office building on the waterfront – which makes the quality of the sandwiches they churn out more impressive. I assume they share kitchen space with Strega Waterfront (same owners, same building), so they have resources available to them that belies the small square footage they take up.
Anyway, I’ve so far tried their tuna salad and their pastrami. First, they use fresh quality bread, European style (but not the kind that rip up the roof of your mouth). The tuna salad sandwich was big and stuffed full of tuna salad. The tuna salad itself was well-​seasoned and flavorful – not just mayo and cheapo canned tuna – they use white tuna and put little chunks of onion and celery in there, too.
The pastrami was awesome. The meat was clearly a cut above your typical Boars Head, and the sauerkraut or whatever they had in there added a sweetness that offset the saltiness of the pastrami and mustard perfectly. A nice touch: the woman behind the counter warmed it up for me (I didn’t even have to ask). I have thought about that pastrami several times since – need to go back soon.
If I recall, prices were between $ 6-​$ 8, which, for the quality and location, is totally reasonable. FYI: they close mid-​afternoon, it seems, and doubt they’re open on the weekend.
Good place to have in your building, for sure.
