I was in Boston for pleasure and was just looking for a good solid comfort food restaurant. I was pleased to find Charlie’s and it worked just fine. The décor is a little reminiscent of a Old Spaghetti Factory. The staff is pretty busy here, but they do get to you eventually and with a smile. The food is good and about what you would expect for comfort food. No complaints here, can recommend highly.

R.I.P. Chucks Charley’s is one of my favorite restaurants on Newbury Street! Food is always delicious and for the location priced lower than anyplace around. The drink list is phenomenal and the bartenders are wicked nice! Go in and visit Rares & Cristian they will Serve u up a great cocktail and probably make you laugh too! This place gets very busy in the summer so be prepared for a crowd, but just go in ready to have a few drinks and some good food, and you will have a blast!

The food here was good. The bread was AMAZING! It’s in cool spot in Boston. I got a huge salad for lunch and it was amazing. I probably wouldn’t go here for dinner(there is a ton of great food in Boston), but lunch was great!!! The staff was really friendly and service was fast. Food was well priced too. I would go here again.

this place is out of business b/c they were unable to negotiate rent. a shoe store is coming shortly! There is also a Charley’s in chestnut hill that’s still open. Back Bay Restaurant Group/Tavistock also owns abe & louie’s, joe’s, coach grill, timpano, atlantic fish, and papa razzi!

Charley’s Eating & Drinking Saloon offers a good brunch deal — an entrée and your choice of a drink for $ 9.99. I’ll take the ability to sit on a Newbury Street patio for that price. I had the French toast and a mimosa. You are automatically given a basket with corn muffins. The corn muffins are OK, but probably not worth the calories. The French toast was huge and had lots of cinnamon. It was not the best one I’ve ever had, but it was tasty, and I’d order it again. Mimosa was of decent strength. Our service was good, though the server could have been a bit friendlier. Our waters were kept refilled, which is much appreciated. Overall, no complaints and I’d return if I need a budget-friendly way to people watch on Newbury.

I LOVECHARLEY’S! It’s my new fave Newbury St outdoor café. The restaurant bar inside is reminiscent of a men’s club, and the patrons seem like regulars at their local pub. FOOD: Best bread pre-dinner…crusty & chewy ½ loaf. House-made sandwich rolls make their burgers better too! Hand-cut french fries are the side to try when you stop by. I saw several large, tempting dessert waft past my nose, but was too full to fully enjoy any of them… this time. SERVICE: All 3 times I’ve been there, my waiter has been prompt, friendly and attentive… AAA. THEDEAL: Keep an eye out for Groupon esque discount gift certificate, half-price offers on the web!

Met up with some friends in Boston in the Newbury St area and after fighting the battle of the century for parking were hungry and wanted to grab brunch. My friend recommended Charley’s. I was quite impressed the server was very attentive and the food came out fast. Their brunch menu is not very big but it has everything you would want. I went with the Eggs Benedict and was quite impressed. The home fries were alittle salty but the Eggs were delicious and cooked perfectly. The reason this review goes from 3 to 4 stars is because of the value. Many places on Newbury St. are expensive but for $ 12 I got Eggs Benedict(came with 2 eggs, home fries, fruit, and mini corn muffins on the table). On top of this with any brunch entrée, you get a complimentary breakfast cocktail. So good food, good value, and fast! Definitely would come back.

I still remember my first experience at Charley’s. It wasn’t bad, but wasn’t good either. I probably wouldn’t come back, but now I’m certain I won’t be back. My first experience gets 3 stars, but now I need to update that to 1. I received a compliment from a Unilocal member named Micaela S which read: «you are an angry bitch who has never been a waitress… more sour than sweet and definitely not worth your listed price. restaurants would rather you stay home. cook your own perfect dinner with your own perfect lighting» Kind of shocked by the utter disrespect I decided to call Charley’s myself and inquire if a someone works there with this name. Sure enough the kind gentleman who answered the phone assured me that there was a waitress named Michaela and that her last initial was S, however she was not working right now. I do not enjoy zinging restaurants on Unilocal and I try to refrain from giving 1 star, but I can’t help but warn others of my experience. I am still sitting here in complete shock that someone could be so rude. Its people like this waitress who deter others from writing honest reviews on Unilocal.Unilocal is an opinion based forum driven by loyal members who give their input to help the general public decided if an establishment gets their business. Also, I waitressed for 2 years when I lived in Boston and would have most certainly been fired for a stunt like this. One of the first things you learn as a waitress is that if you are not kind to your customers you will fail miserably. Charley’s better reconsider who they hire or it very well can cost them their reputation.

After being denied(yes) service at Trident, I ventured down the road hoping to get some meatloaf and mashed potatoes. NOPE! Wanted to try some Irish fare from a pub on St. Patrick’s Day Eve… DOUBTIT! I was greeted by some guy looking at me like I had a problem(I did, I was hungry) and then proceeded to ask«Where should I go?» after standing for five minutes. I thought, this is just an anomaly… terrible service, right? Wrong. I sat at a table for ten minutes without anyone asking or checking on me. I ran outside and started eating dirt.

Came for brunch and you get a free drink with it. Enough said. I got a screwdriver(which was really good) and blueberry pancakes which were buttermilk and had fresh blueberry’s so what’s not to love? Amazing service! Funny and remembers everything you ask for!

God, All I wanted was a good decent steak. It started off nice, the door was open and the two hostesses directed me downstairs to the bar. Was nice so far. Pleasant bartender, actually the saving grace of the quick bar eat. Steak was just. meh. It wasn’t seasoned right or should I say at all.(although cooked to the perfectly asked temperature) but was just blah. I hate having to use A1 sauce to cover up blandness. God, I just wanted a good steak. I didn’t get it at all. I had veggies which were just carrots and green beans that were just. ughhh, it just sucked. Tried it, didn’t like it. I moved on!

My boyfriend and I have eaten here a number of times and I’ve never been disappointed. I’ve tried the Roast Beef French dip, which is always good, though I pass on the Au Jus dipping and horseradish sauce(strictly as a matter of personal preference). The chicken fajitas were also good, served sizzling hot. The Roast Beef Lyonnaise and Chicken Fingers also get my vote. Their honey barbecue sauce is great, and I normally don’t care for it elsewhere. My boyfriend tends to enjoy the burgers, which are absolutely huge! Fries and onion rings also done well. Sometimes it can be a little on the loud side, but not unbearable or intrusive upon conversation. The staff is friendly and always present, to refill drinks or cater to our needs. We’ve never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table. There are often groups present, which adds to the volume, but does not much distract from the dining experience. I also sometimes see solo diners there as well, so it’s a good environment regardless of the number in your party. The décor is interesting and pleasant. I love to view the old photos hung around the place. We live in the area, so it’s easy for us to get to. It’s also very close to the T. Though if you are going by car, I imagine parking can be tricky, given the location. Overall, I certainly would recommend Charley’s to anyone.

I would sincerely like to thank Sheila, my best friend’s aunt, for taking us out to dinner at Charley’s. The décor is great. It’s the perfect balance between sports bar and a high end, traditional American restaurant. Our waiter, overly eager to serve us, was berated with my abrasive sense of humor. He dealt well with it. +1 for him. It’s been almost six months since I’ve been there, but from my memory, I had the tilapia as suggested by our darling waiter. It was delicious. Flaky, moist, and healthy. Of course, it wouldn’t hurt for them to douse my entire meal in melted butter(because I love melted butter), so I figure I could be picky and just complain that my meal wasn’t salty enough, even though that was quickly fixed with the provided salt shaker. Although I didn’t pay for my meal, I don’t think I could afford to eat here often.

Charley’s is great! I like it much better than the more expensive(and crowded) brunch and dinner places on Newbury. The food is made-to-order from scratch, so you can easily ask them to accommodate any special dietary needs.(I’m a pescetarian, so I’ve asked for things with no meat and extra veggies without issue.) Great mimosas on Sundays, too! They used freshly squeezed OJ(literally, the oranges are juiced at the bar) and I definitely recommend them!

Ugh parking on Newbury Street. My friend Mike got a $ 40 parking ticket for parking in an illegal area. I don’t know if it was worth it, but he said it was. They’ve got a nice list of craft beers for about $ 4 – 6 each. I think I had the prime rib for dinner and the portions were ridiculously large. It was good though! Everything else: atmosphere, service and overall feel of the place are good.

One of many places to dine al fresco on Newbury Street, so after passing by a few times during our trip in Boston, we stopped by for Sunday brunch. Service got off to a bumpy start, with our initial server giving us both brunch and regular menus, then another forgot to inform about the 10AM start time for brunch cocktails or beer, courtesy of the local blue law, still better than the 12PM start time in NYC. A choice of 3 cocktails or a beer comes as part of the brunch menu(yay!). It was smooth sailing after. Nice outdoor seating, plenty of heaters to take the edge off the early morning chill. First came a basket of warm, mini muffins. I never had apple muffins before; loved it in all its moist, nutty, and mildly sweet goodness. Less of a fan of the corn muffin, but I’m biased against them unless they’re laced with jalapenos. I had an awesome corned beef hash with two poached eggs. I’m a corned beef hash fanatic and get it almost half the time I go to brunch, and this was one of the best I’ve eaten. It was neither too salty nor mushy, two of the things I don’t like my hash to be but find all too often. The potatoes were in distinct, sizeable cubes and perfectly cooked. Topped with sliced scallions, it was as near perfect as I can ask for. Washed down with an average mimosa. Lovely!

Brunch. Been three times now, pretty solid place. Good service on Newbury is a treat in its own, and here they treat you nice, but kitchen seems to get backed up at times. The food is good and the waiters say they make everything in house. Based on my taste-buds — that is quite possible. After sampling their menu I recommend the steak eggs benny(vegetarians can ask to have avo instead of steak) and corned beef hash(my favorite). You also get a free drink(not great quality, but hey!) with your brunch, did someone say mimosa? Eat up!

A friend and I went here for a late lunch. early dinner. Since it was an off-hour, we were promptly seated. Our server was excellent. She was very prompt and attentive. The menu is pretty basic American fare from chicken tenders to meatloaf. The beer menu is a little deceptive, the beers are all bottled, they only have about three beers on tap. For a place that has«drinking saloon» in the name, I was expecting a little more. I had the clam chowder and lump crab cake. It was very savory and filling. The crab cake is broiled and looks small, but it is filling. The coleslaw that came with it had the perfect zest. It also had a slight taste of sweetness. I don’t usually eat coleslaw, but that was good. There are only three booths. So even though it was practically empty, people were seated right next to us. It would be nice if they could space people out more during the off hours. The prices were very reasonable for Newbury St.

I wasn’t expecting much from this place, honestly, but I was running out of close after work options. Boy was I in for a pleasant surprise! My coworkers and I managed to score a seat on the patio. Their patio is nice but extremely cramped. They definitely maximize their opportunities there. I will say, though, that the servers go out of their way to make it work for you so that you’re comfortable. It seems to work well for everyone. I had myself a glass of La Crema chardonnay and, against my better judgement, the blackened chicken alfredo(minus the chicken). OMG that was the most un-freakin-believable pasta!!! Our friendly server told me that it wasn’t super heavy and it wasn’t. It was perfect. In every way. Mushrooms, green onions, roasted red peppers. Oh my. I couldn’t stop eating it. Ridiculous. Go get it, now! OK, I might have a problem. But I loved it. Yum.

Found this place during a obsessive compulsive Unilocaler stalker/bookmarking binge. If you are a tourist staying near Newbury street(like me,) or lucky enough to live nearby, I can’t think of a better place to stop by for brunch. Others seem to agree. We arrived before 11am and there was no wait but there was a line to get outdoor seating as we left. Everything is made fresh to order with even fresher ingredients, even a fresh breeze on the outdoor patio– made to my order. Ahhhh. Classic blueberry pancakes. Perfectly light and blueberry-y.(Mmmm) A hearty frittata with tomato and mushrooms and pasta mixed in.(Burp.) Bloody Mary — lots of horseradish(Slurp.) Bacon.(Bacon!) The sounds of a lovely Sunday brunch. $ 26 bought two hungry out-of-towners a(free) brunch drink and a well portioned, good-to the last lick entrée. Oh — and those fresh baked cornbread and raisin coconut carrot-I don’t know-what basket of muffins.(Munch, finger lick, munch.) I can’t wait to make noise here again on my next visit to Boston.
